It’s sounding like the new museum project is a go for me. Two sets of drawers with polycarbonate covers for artifact display and a series of sliding semi-transparent maps. They want laminate instead of a nice wood finish, but oh well. Their choice. It’ll pay the rent for a couple of months.
Late Afternoon all. I actually managed to change to duct air filter and trim all the non-mowable spots outdoors and cleaned both toilets and managed to file 6 months of records, so I have been productive today. Also managed not to take a nap (it was close) so I should be able to sleep in tomorrow.
Got my “Star ID” license from the State of Ali-bama today, so I should be good on the ID front until 2025. Picture isn’t even half-bad (mind you, it ain’t half-good, either).
Clouding up outside, the chances of rain go from 0% today to 25% tonight to 75% tomorrow…we’ll see.
VanGo, congrats on the new project.
Flyboy, you must have a big door (or no steps) to get that big a piece of plywood outside. Strikes me as a 2-person job, so kudos to you for doing it.
shoe, enjoy the new new job, MEAT is good.
nellie, happy double birthday to your kin. And hope they can fit you in before 5 more months. Any reasons given about the cancellation?
Oops, lots of folks who don’t stick around or only post now and then get Mumper names. It means your one of us, even if we don’t see you for a time.
OK, Mac-n-Cheese is happily assimilating and I am considering going to get a butter pecan waffle cone as my reward for doing stuff. All y’all take care.
Irked, came home, walked the dog and et. Such excitement!
My supe took today off and won’t be back until tomorrow. My manager commented that I really cranked out reconciliations when she wasn’t there. I told him that I wasn’t being pulled off every 30 minutes to redo something that no longer had inventory in the location to adjust because the approval process was delayed (operations transfers such product into lost locations leaving the variant location empty). I think I saw him crack a grin.
Up from naptime, and having a negroni, and making smoked paprika chicken and rice for dinner.
Not exactly. The brown van that delivers your anvil to your door is a “package car”. If a business orders 75 anvils, it gets delivered in a 30 foot box truck, AKA a “pig”. Although you probably could ship a small pig.
My roommate has one, and I have a spare. I use it to drive all my mobility challenged friends to bars.
You posted once, you’re a Mumper forever.
ONE OF US! ONE OF US! ONE OF US!
@Misnomer is gonna be “Oopsies!” to me. And y’all can’t stop me!
Also, I may forget.
I’m “celebrating” getting a new job + clearing out the freezer before ShoeMother arrives. “Dah-Duhm!!!”
So there’s chicken broth simmering. Lots of carrot and garlic involved. It smells nice.
It’s also - and I just learned this term, and have been dying to use it - hotter than fried hell out there.
Looks like more tunder-boomers tonight.
Last night, it was raining in such a lovely, civilized manner that I shut off Coolio so I might listen to the pitter-patter in a quieter manner.
That was nice … until I woke back up sweating bullets from the hyoomidity.
Regular single door. Maybe 36 inches. Yes, there are steps; two flights of eight. My orifice is in the basement. And both of my knees are rubbish. Anyway, I got my wood up.
Got all my frustrations about the appointment out at the gym. Also had a lovely chat with my birthday boy (the one I gave birth to) and my dear daughter-in-law, who baked him a birthday cake–coconut with lime curd filling–from scratch. She’s a superb cook, and he’s a happy guy. I was telling him how hopeful I am the hummingbirds will come around now that my fuchsia is blooming when…a hummingbird stopped by for a sip! That’s a good omen, right?
My brother and I played phone tag, so I’ll talk to him tomorrow.
shoe, you sound good. And I’m stealing “hotter than fried hell.” Sending the best of wishes for the new job! Also for the parental visit.
Forgot to say before, FCM, that I like Roxie’s moxie. Mark my words, that gal will be president someday. Only 32 years until she’s eligible. If I’m still alive, I’ll vote for her.
OK, so. Exiting Hades Annex just became viable. OTOH, just got reassigned to a new sup who’s a lot nicer and is quite new to her position, plus I’m the only experienced agent on her team, other than her (she and I were in the same training class). I think she kinda needs me, really. OTOH (yes, that’s more than 2 hands. Your point?), the overall environment still has some significant toxicity and I have the horrid commute, plus no movement yet on trying to go part-time. Apparently, it’s somehow better to have a veteran employee either get fired for attendance problems or quit to protect herself than to allow that switch.
Urgh, compassion for new sup is not playing nicely with my self-interest.
@nelliebly, lime curd sounds interesting. Is a recipe available?
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of ONLY 81 (BRRR!) with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for this afternoon and evenin’. We shall see. Today we shall lay in provisions and I shall head over to the church house to deal with some church janitor Junior Warden Duties. Six months until I don’t have to do that anymore! We shall also indulge in the usual sloth. Sup shall be leftovers from yestiddy.
shoe congrats on the new meat related gig. Hope it turns out to be what you’ve been lookin’ for irkwise.
Nettie nice of you to be concerned about your new supe. However, I say if you see an out to Hades Annex that is viable for you, then take it. You’ve dealt with all that toxicity long enough.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and bother of bothers, I suppose I shall purtify and don appropriate bein’ amongst the public attire. Woe!
Isn’t that a nellie - I’d like to think the RoxStar is destined for something better than the presidency!
nettie - while loyalty is a good quality, I’m pretty sure you know that no one will care about you and your future as much as you do. If you choose to move on, life at Hades Annex will continue without you. Do what’s best for you.
I was up till almost midnight finishing the murder mystery and I woke just before 5, dammit. So I’m up. Today is dentist day - my appt is at 5 this evening. And it’s clean-the-basement-bathroom day! The shower curtain and hooks that I ordered were delivered yesterday, so I’ll give the room a good scrubbing and hang the shower curtain. It’s not a big space, but it’s been neglected for far too long.
Muggy 76 degrees this morning.
Picked my son up from irk, and took the brats to daycare.
I wish my son’s irk would stick with the schedule they gave him. Every week there is a change and it makes planning ahead hard.
I was up late last night. I heard from a friend that I hadn’t heard from in a while. His wife is cheating and he needed somebody to talk to.
There may be nappage later.
TVCTPMO was running the shift today. We were shorthanded. Then TPTB yanked 8 people out of smalls. One person they did leave was Newbie Slacker Dude. Then all the belts stopped working for 20 minutes. And of course I had to heave things into the pigs again.

The laundry is swimming in the washer. Other than that, my big plans for the day involve the gym and maybe the mall. I need some more shirts. Some of mine are getting pretty worn and faded. I hate clothes shopping, but what must be done, must be done.
nettie, would knowing you’re helping your new supe make up for all the toxicity? I’d think not. Could you just help her out for however long you’ll be there after you give notice?
Seanette, you can always call it “the gripping hand”, because Science Fiction nerds (like me) will get the reference right off (it’s from a famous SF book, 'The Mote in God’s Eye"). And I agree with the rest of the populace, stay while you must and help out the new sup, but always with an eye for getting out and saving your own self.
Please tell me you didn’t mean to say that…
But do you use it to drive them home from bars??
Have visited bank and exchanged a book (found that the last few pages had been blurred by the printer, took it and the receipt to B&N and they exchanged it with no hassle. Tomorrow I need to fill up gas tank and take the car in for service, just the basics but with 40,000 miles on it, they’ll probably try to find this-n-that to add. We’ll see.
I have some limes, and some triple sec, and some tequila.
I have to go get the dogs later, and then I have to irk.
They will have to wait.
I’m trying to get stuff done, but I have no energy.
Nettie, if something new comes along, grab it.
My son was supposed to irk S-M-T this week. Sunday was a holiday, Monday he had off for lack of irk, and he irked yesterday. Now he has to irk Friday to make up for Monday.
Next week he is supposed to irk S-M-T. Then have W-Th-F-S-S-M-T off. He is going to have Sunday off for lack of irk, and so he will have a makeup day either W-TH-F, which is when my truck will be in the shop. And he is supposed to have to irk a day of OT. Why they have mandatory OT when they are having days off because of lack of irk is a big ?.
The basement bathroom is clean - I even sprayed bleach on the floor in a feeble attempt to whiten the grout. I did a load with the bathroom throw rugs and assorted towels - they dried on the line really fast. I was hanging the new shower curtain when one of the hooks broke! Amazon is giving me a returnless refund and I’m going to buy hooks somewhere locally. Dammit.
I also hauled a bunch of stuff from the basement to the junk shed for FCD to sort and put away when he’s able. And I measured 3 more pictures that I found that need to be framed so I can hang them. I’m going to the thrift store in search of frames.
FCD went with me on a trash/recycle run, then we went to Salsa’s for lunch. Now we’re home, and I’m about to head out again for the frames. We probably won’t have a real supper since we had a good-sized lunch. Maybe just salad, which works in this heat. So, off to the thrift store, then we’ll see what needs doing.
Impressive list. But I can’t read popsicle without remembering the syrupy root beer popsicles we would get from the milk man. Anybody else get popsicles delivered by the milk man? (probably were a knockoff, but YUM!)
Got the suitcase out today. It’s almost been a year since I last opened it. We’re only going to another part of the country (and since it’s Switzerland, it’s not that far away), but I’m almost as nervous as if we were flying to the U.S. Need to get used to packing again.
Speaking of which, probably should go to bed. Don’t have to get up early, but my sleep schedule is all confused.
I finally trained myself to turn the bedside fan on before I fall asleep: I hardly ever need it then, but I will need it in the middle of the night. One of these days I’ll put the thing on a timer.
