Scored some good deals at the thrift store - a couple of onesies for Toby, a pair of jeans and a t-shirt for me, 3 frames for the found pictures, and 6 Corelle plates for $2!! I put my pics in the frames and hung them downstairs - the basement is starting to look like a gallery!
Pretty much done for today - chillage shall ensue. Tomorrow, I’ll swing by the state police office and get my tail light signed off, then fetch Roxy and head to the museum. I still haven’t decided if we’re going to have lunch out or not. I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.
Got back from some financial erranding and getting nails prettified. I’d forgotten how much weirder train riders are, since I normally stick to buses these days for efficiency. Anyway, we are now debt-free with one low-amount exception that will be taken care of next week (tried to pay them early, but the stinkers won’t let me).
Once DH gets home, we’ll figure out what we want to have delivered. I’m leanng toward the nearby magic Internet Chinese place, since their fried rice will also cover at least several days of lunch needs.
DH has a rather overdue eye exam scheduled for Saturday morning, then he wants to shop for a new phone (it is his turn for that upgrade, after all). Not looking forward to doing that in predicted triple-digit heat.
I think at this point my balancing of work-related factors will have me working another two weeks at Hades Annex (one more pay period, which will cover next month’s rent). I’ve already shuffled four months of rent money into savings and should be able to also do set-asides for utilities. DH’s income will cover the rest for that time, and in the current job market, I doubt it’ll take me five months to find my next job.
nellie, the first presidential election that RoxStar will be eligible to run will be 2052 by my calculations. If 89 year old me is still kicking, I’ll cast a vote for her.
seanette, lime curd is available commercially. It is much like lemon curd and yummy on toast or english muffins. This is the brand that I like for tea time.
'Twas a good day at irk. My manager left for vacation today and the supe was irking from home, leaving me pretty much in charge. I still had a metric shit ton of counts to write and some to double check and a bunch to adjust. I put the new reconciler to doing some of the double checks and golden girl to making adjustments (I wouldn’t trust her double checks, but the system will not permit fudging for adjustment journal numbers). They were both out by four and I was out half an hour later. Yay! Tomorrow, I’ll catch up on class irk, since I doubt if I’ll be assigned many, if any counts, given that I’m taking a four day weekend. I think I’ll swing through Bojangle’s for chicken biscuits for the crew tomorrow morning.
Friday, I’ll take off for Indiana for my 40 year class reunion (who ARE those old people? ). I’ll leave Sunday morning and go to the doctor Monday morning, pick up some groceries in the afternoon and take the small beast to the dog park, since he’ll be on leash all weekend.
I’ve been back at my firm’s office for 1.5 days now. Everyone masks as they walk about the office, but doesn’t when they’re at their desks. I’m having to get used to having people in my face all day again. My favorite boss looks like she’s going to continue to work from home, which is another way of saying she’s retiring, it looks like. My other female boss will also continue to work from home. So that leaves me my three guy attorneys working here, and I suspect I’m going to be asked to take on some other bosses at some point. Yay.
But I’m glad to see other co-workers and to socialize a bit. Also to discover that two high quality boba tea joints opened downtown in the last few months, both within easy walking distance.
Evening all. Soccer has been watched and mail collected (got a GoodRx card in the mail for use at Kroger, not sure how to respond, my insurance pretty much takes care of my prescriptions and I use Walgreens, not Kroger). Has anyone else ever tried to use that GoodRx system?
Red, enjoy the 40th anniversary. My 50th is in August and I’m a bit torn, it would mark a milestone but I’ve completely fallen out of touch with anybody who was there and I’m not that interested in anyone likely to attend, so I’ll probably skip it.
Nettie, it sounds like you have worked it out and have a plan together. Hope it all goes as planned for you.
Dicey, know what you mean; took a 5-day driving trip in June and have another 5-day trip planned here in about 2 weeks, so slowly getting back into the travel mode. I expect 2022 to be a madhouse for travel.
OK, need to get the dishes put in the dishwasher and some other modest chores, then onward into the evening. All y’all take care.
Howdy Y’all! Foodstuffs were gotten, church janitor Junior Warden duties taken care of, nappage and requisite sloth achieved, and leftovers comsumed. Oh and it’s been off and on rainy all day. Thus is life in south Jawja.
My 50th will be next year if they have it, but I won’t bother. The people I might like to see haven’t attended any of the previous ones and, frankly, high school wasn’t that big a deal for me. I would go to a reunion of my boot camp company or OCS, but those never happen.
Trying to sleep, but my brain is in high gear. Maybe if I put my tablet away… mwah!!!
MetalMouse, I did. The very nice pharmacist had a little chat with me about it. GoodRx and similar programs usually cover brand name prescriptions only. Even with the coupon, brand names will usually cost more than generics.
Good Rx will save you money if there’s no generic available, BUT your insurance company will pay more. That means higher premiums.
Good RX covers generics as well as brand name drugs. The site will tell you the cheapest pharmacy in the area for a particular drug whether it is an independent pharmacy, a chain or a pharmacy within a grocery store. The savings can be dramatic.
Good to know, and I’m so glad you’re saving money that way! That definitely wasn’t my experience. Maybe it varies by state? The generic was cheaper, and Good Rx didn’t cover it. Also, if I’d used GoodRx, it wouldn’t have applied toward my deductible, which I’d have had to factor in.
And then there’s this:
While consumers pay less at the pharmacy, research suggests they are actually passing on higher costs to their insurance company. That’s because manufacturers tend to offer the coupons on brand-name drugs that are competing against lower-priced drugs, often generics that sell for $4 or less at retailers like Wal-Mart.
When a generic is available, pharmacists often automatically switch patients to the cheaper option. But when a patient uses a coupon, it short-circuits that process. The copay is lower, but the insurer ends up paying for the higher-priced drug. “So those costs are going to come out in higher premiums,” said Wells Wilkinson, an attorney with Community Catalyst, a health care advocate group.
A 2013 study of almost 400 coupons found that nearly two-thirds were for brand-name medications that had cheaper alternatives, according to researchers at Harvard Medical School.[source] [bolding mine]
My insurance covers more at some pharmacies than others, so I have to factor that in as well. It gets complicated.
Another consideration for me in a few months will be that I can’t use GoodRx or other discount programs with Medicare Part D. In some cases, such as when Part D doesn’t cover a certain medication, it’d definitely be cheaper to go with GoodRx (though if it’s a regular medication, it might be better to switch Part D plans during open enrollment).
I’m all for saving money on prescriptions whenever possible. Using drug coupon programs sure sounds like one way to do it, as long as someone is willing to factor in everything. I also like that GoodRx shows you the prices at various pharmacies, even though for me I’m limited by distance.
Morning, mumpers! I can’t believe it’s only Thursday, this week seems to have gone on forever…we are still not done with end of session processing, the final Board of Examiners meeting was meant to happen today but it got pushed to Friday instead (yay!) because we can’t get everything done in time. It doesn’t help that whilst there are not many people actually working on it, there are still too many cooks. The upshot is that my boss had a meltdown yesterday after the 3hr scrutiny meeting and has gone off with stress. Her boss has been off for nearly 2 months with depression, and his boss retired last month and has only just been replaced by a six-month secondment person from elsewhere in our College…the secondment person’s first message to us was to complain that mandatory training hadn’t been completed. Yeah, right, we did it all in March when we were told to, and right now at our busiest and most stressful time of year is not the time to start bleating about it.
Nava! Welcome back, don’t be a stranger Good to see you, sorry to hear about the SIL’s pregnancy woes.
Batboy conga-rats on the new job, I hope it turns out to be exactly what you want.
shoe congra-rats on your new job too, hope it makes you happy!
I have read but largely not retained…back to the saltmines for me…
My bladder woke me just before 4, and that was that. I did lie abed reading - that counts as rest, I guess.
In a couple of hours, I’m going to ride John Deere around the back yard - doggone grass grows so fast!! We’re supposed to be visited by Elsa or her remains later today which means mowage tomorrow can’t happen due to wet. But the front yard doesn’t need attention, and I did the ditches a few days back, so a quick spin around the back yard - shouldn’t take 30 minutes.
En route to fetching Roxy for a museum trek, I’ll swing by the state trooper office and get my brake light paperwork done. The museum no longer requires tickets - one less thing to mess with. We should be able to kill an hour or so there, then home for lunch. I’ve already decided we’re not lunching out. So there. She’d rather play in the basement anyway.
So that’ll be the biggies - mowage and museum. Envy my exciting life!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 89 and maybe rain this afternoon. Or not. TWPTB are once again all willy-nilly about this. This mornin’ I shall head over to the church house to partake of mowage. We are down to a three person crew for this go round so 'twill take longer but must needs be done. Sup shall be salmon patties, peas, smashed N.O.T. and bizkits cause I feel a need for comfort food.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I shall make myself a little bit presentable before headin’ out. No need to go overboard with that as I find lawn mowers pretty much do not care how one looks.
It’s a cloudy, muggy, 75 degrees outside.
We may or may not get rain.
As long as it holds off until after we pick up groceries at 10, I don’t much care what it does outside.
The dogs are worn out from the park, although they didn’t do much.
Too hot for them.
The gnats are horrible this year, but it’s better than mosquitoes.
Thanks. If I can make enough money to cover bills (I’m waaaay behind, urp!) that’s good enough.
Came home yesterday so pooped after my 1st day that I brushed my teeth and went straight to bed. Tossed and turned, mostly, but I needed to simply lie there.
Morning all. Think I’m going to take my car in for service, the computer on-board says I still have 28% of my oil life left but I can’t remember the last time I had service done and even with as few miles as I drive, it still probably won’t hurt…much. That’s about the total amount of activity planned for today. Rainy outside right now, but supposed to clear up in a bit and get to 87F.
BBBoo and others, thanks for the advice on GoodRx. Right now I’m only on 2 prescriptions that with insurance cost me about $20 for 3-months supply, so I’ll stick with that for the time being. But nice to have an alternative.
Boo fae, sounds like you can join Seanette in looking for alternatives to employment, sounds like that place is imploding…
OK, morning pills have been taken and will break fast in about 45 minutes, so everyone take care now.
So yesterday our shift started at 0330, but Midnight was still running, so we had to wait. Today, they were still running stuff to go out, when they started unloading our stuff, so a bunch got mixed up. So a FUBAR day even without all the call outs due to Elsa. On the other hand, I had to help fix the screw ups, so OT. Naptime!
Good luck on the job and bills, shoe!
Boofae, sounds like your chain of command is missing a few lnks.
I’ve eaten before irk today (didn’t yesterday - big mistake, my blood sugar was a-crashin’ by mid shift) and having food in tummy, have taken my vitamins as well.
Hopefully, that means I won’t be such an exhausted mess by the end of it. Shorter shift today, too, so should be OK on the energy levels.
Don’t need to leave for over an hour, so working on my cross-stitch project while Nikki and Monkey go in and out and in and out and in and out …
