Revenge of the Fifth- A Post Holiday MMP

I’m an unrepentant carnivore myself.

TVCTPMO is apparently focusing on grocery ordering today. At some point between assembling the cart and trying to check out, damn near every item was suddenly “out of stock”.

Felt an earthquake today. Got back from lunch about 3:50 (I work 11:15 to 8:00, at least for the maximum of two weeks before I tell Hades Annex to kiss my rump), sat down, chair started shimmying a bit moments later. I thought I was having a bit of vertigo or that a boom car was really out of control nearby until others started commenting. Local news sites confirm a 6.0 near the CA/NV border.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Hugs, boos, belated happy burfdays, sticky thoughts for Moooom’s daughter (I noticed that you mentioned prenatal care, I did!)…

SiL’s Occupant is still occupating, which is viewed as Good by former-occupant parties involved. Now they even have a provisional name with the family (Garbancito, a Spanish equivalent to Thumbellina) and one in the MMP! For some reason Thumbellina has always sounded to me like it should be a flower’s name. I’ve got no idea why, it just does.

Going to Barcelona over the weekend. I’m selling the flat there, since I’m working from home and even if I need to travel now and then I’m hoping to never again have to do the weekly commute thing. We’re signing the contract on Monday.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 92 and partly to mostly N.O.S. for the day. I shall betake myself over to the church house this mornin’ to deal with some church janitor Junior Warden duties, candle duty and more mowage. Our mowin’ crew is short a few folk this go round due to vacations and a knee replacement. Oh well, we can deal. Sup shall be boxed lasagna (don’t judge!), sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.

Thanks for all the condolences y’all. Sylvia was a special lady. She was very musically talented. Her husband, Arthur, headed the art department of the local college for years. Their home is a veritable museum. I wonder what their sons are goin’ to do with all of that.

shoe ignore your mom as much as is possible. Mournin’ or missin’ someone has no time limit. Also yay for you eatin’ better!

Wheelie meant to mention yestiddy that you’re evenin’ with the Missus sounded like a really nice one. Feels good to get out and about again does it not!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I shall make myself reasonably presentable and go deal with stuff. Rah,

Happy Firday Y’all!!

My goofy youngest sister flings nicknames thither and yon - she calls Roxy Gladys and she’s already dubbed the boy-to-be Mortimer. When Roxy was in utero, FCD was calling her Kermit because my daughter once mentioned she was the size of a tadpole. Face it, I live around a bunch of crazy people!

BBBoo - speaking of junk, how’s grandbabbyboy? And how is Hattie adjusting to her little bro? Roxy will kiss her mama’s belly and say “Goodnight, brother” but I’m still not certain she gets what’s about to happen. November will be interesting.

{{{shoe}}} - bummer that your mother doesn’t understand your grief. I’d love to hear some memories of the Other Shoe and your time together, if you’re inclined to share.

Elsa was kind to us - just some nice, steady rain. I haven’t noticed any branches down in the yard, nor did I hear anything last night apart from an occasional heavy downpour. Right now, the sky is blue and the sun is shining, and the steamy heat hasn’t set it. Gonna be a good day for erranding, methinks.

I’m going to head to the big box part of the county and get cat littler, shower curtain hooks (the ones I got from Da Jungle turned out to be crap - one fell apart!!!), a vent line for my kiln, and a sample size container of paint to touch up the dining room wall. I need to walk thru and make a list, because I’m sure there’s more I need from that part of town. FCD is going to see our family doc this morning - his pain is out of control and he can’t seem to get in touch with either of his surgeons. Plus I think he just likes Christine better - she is a treasure! I hope she can help him.

And so begins my day. Happy, happy Firday!!

Good morning one and all. It’s been an incredibly busy week for me.

I’m sorry to read about your member, Swampy.

Welcome back, Nava! It’s been ages.

I sure hope the doc can find a solution for FCD’s pain, FCM.

Good on you for eating better, shoe. I hope the visit with your parents turns out to be a good one, and that your mother is less insensitive to your feelings concerning Other Shoe.

Hoo boy! I am glad it’s Friday. I’m just exhausted all the time anymore. A good part of it is just plain old burn-out. My vacation starts in two weeks and I’m barely hanging on. Not that I’m counting the days or anything, lol!

Everybody keeps asking what I’m going to do for my vacation. I didn’t really plan for it because I really didn’t trust that the pandemic wouldn’t shut things down again. I am looking at some cabin rentals, but I would need for my son to come dog sit Polar. He just accepted a new position and I know that he’ll be incredibly busy, so I’m not sure he’s an option. All the pet-friendly places I’ve seen only take small to medium-sized dogs. Polar is kind of a big boy at 80 pounds. At this point, leaving Polar in a kennel just seems cruel. He becomes incredibly stressed and depressed when I leave. Having his “boy” here would alleviate a lot of that.

I would kill for some good, deep sleep. I am sure that is contributing to my constantly feeling tired too. The husband comes to bed in the wee hours, wakes me up, and then tosses, turns, and scratches. So, I’m getting three to four hours of sleep, tops. I’m going to need to set up another bed just so I can get some damn sleep! As part of a purge last year, we got rid of all the beds from the spare bedrooms because they were old and broken down. We haven’t replaced them yet, but I need to get moving on that because my granddaughter is fast outgrowing her nap cot. I think this will be a project while I’m on vacation.

Well, time for another cup of coffee and to finish unloading the dishwasher.

Morning all. Got up at 5:30am for the morning micturition and of course the chain got stuck so the water kept running, which made me get back up and take the top (and the stuff thereupon) off and fix it and…never did get back to bed, so nappage is likely this afternoon. Nothing on the schedule, but I have three plastic bags full of plastic bags (Wal-Mart and Publix both recycle them), so I may drop them off sometime today. Newspaper is inside and bank balance balances, so some constructive things have been done. Afternoon tunder-boomers are predicted, but it’s nice and clear right now.

Late on the condolences, swampy, but she sounded like a lady I’d like to emulate, 90 and still managing things for herself.

Somebody else thought so too…even if it’s more of a nickname: https://www.applewoodseed.com/product/zinnia-thumbelina/

Seanette, been through one earthquake in my life…that’s enough.

shoe, as you get more comfortable with the routine of the job, I suspect you’ll start feeling better. And good on the meat specialty…maybe training for a butcher’s job someday?

FCM, glad the tire only needed a patch, I put new ones on about 18 months ago and hope I don’t have to do that again for several years.

OK, will look for things to do early in the morning…like maybe going back to bed. All y’all take care.

Eek! I meant church member**, Swampy.** See! Not enough coffee!

It’s amazing how sleeping apart can help a relationship, just because your brain is working properly, plus you’re not lying there all pi$$ed off resenting that the other person kept you up.

Big upvote from me on the “guest bed project” plans.

I’ve grown these! Proper charming wee little buggers they are. (That’s my very best attempt at sounding British. How’d I do?)

They’re cute, and since the flowers are so diminutive, the plants themselves seemed especially hardy, even for zinnias which are pretty tough already.

Training today on the P.O.S. (I know what it looks like, but that’s “point of sale” e.g. cash register) today.

I’m not worried about counting money, but the cashier also seems to be traffic control for the various orders, both inside and drive-through … and with literally too many cooks in the kitchen plus a crew of mostly newbies, I hear “Wait, which order is this for?” a LOT already.

Afternoon, mumpers! I’m so glad to finally reach Friday, this week feels like it’s been about a month long.

Swampy sorry to hear about Sylvia, she sounds like a character who will be very much missed.

shoe sorry also to hear that your mum is so unsympathetic. Folks are right when they say that grief doesn’t have a time limit and even if you feel you’ve conquered the worst of it, there are always days when something creeps up and hits you. And conga-rats on eating before work!

Mooooom yay for legalage and fixed tyres!

I is officially exhausted today. We had (hopefully) our final Board of Examiners meeting, the Russians threw something in at the very last minute just to make us look bad but overall it went fairly well. I’ve done the paperwork and now just need to get everything agreed and signed off, then we can work on the bits and pieces that need fixing. And then there’s all the stuff from the last Boards that still isn’t finished off. I am so done with all of this…

Thanks, it’s something of a struggle.

Currently having a pair of scrambled eggs, with some iced tea. Didn’t wanna, but now that I’m sitting down with them, they are soooooo good.

Already showered and half-dressed.

All y’all have a good Firday!

Back from erranding! I got everything on my list plus a few (really, not too many) extras. FCD just left to pick up his gabapentin (it wasn’t ready when I stopped at CVS, dammit) and I’m hoping it’ll help him get some sleep - poor guy. He’ll get comfy and doze off, but after an hour or so, he’ll wake up in pain again - maybe he moves the wrong way in sleep or something. Countdown to new knee on Aug 6…

OK, time to get some stuff done. Or I can futz around for another 20 minutes or so, then have lunch. Futzing sounds good…

The FUBAR Fairy called in today, so it went well. I mean apart from The Senoir Shouting Officers shouting extra loud today(not my fault y’all didn’t fix the irreg screw up Saturday, or that Midnight screwed us 2 days running). we’ll see what tomorrow holds.

Sounds a wee bit Irish, County Armagh, maybe. :four_leaf_clover:

You’re a biscuit away from a fine Bojangles breakfast.

Russian judge gives a 1.5

I grow weary of the daily 3 PM thunderstorm. Seems like we’ve had this for 2 weeks.

I’m sure the others are right, but if you heard the Thumbelina story, maybe that’s where the idea came from? It was one of my favorites. She was born in a flower and at the end married a prince of the flower fairies. Their happily-ever-after involved flitting from flower to flower. I loved that story as a kid, and there was a song about her they played when I was in kindergarten. Thanks for the happy memories!

And Nava, glad to get the hopeful news about your SIL and Occupant. My fingers are crossed that things will continue to go well.

Not much planned today, as my back is killing me. I think I overdid it at the gym, plus I slept wrong last night. I don’t think it’s ever hurt this much FCM’s post inspired me to take gabapentin early (I take it daily to prevent migraines.) in the hope that will help.

Speaking of whom, I love your family’s nicknames for fetuses. And I hope FCD feels better.

swampy, thank you for sharing Ms. Sylvia with us. She sounds like someone I would’ve liked to know.

And yes, Boo, you’ve left us hanging on grandbabby boy. How’s he doing? And Ms. Hattie? And the parents? Are they exhausted?

A bit of drama from flyover country. A man whom my daughter dated years ago has been arrested on embezzlement charges. He started a company that put together children’s select basketball teams. Other people financed it so he was a minority partner. The news broke a few days ago but the rumor mill had most of the info two weeks ago. He was arrested yesterday and charged with embezzling over 400,000. They traced 32 deposits made into two banks.

My daughter sent him on his way about eight years ago. She has seen him around a few times but this is a pretty small town actually and the bar scene moves around as places become popular.

She had a collect call from the County Jail last night asking for a credit card to connect to the party. Of course she refused and hung up. This morning’s paper said that he made bail, which is probably the reason for the call.

We will see how this unfolds…

hippie, yikes, glad daughter has some distance between her and dude. Amateur sports unfortunately can attract scuzballs of all types.

FCM, futzing around is always good.

boo fae, those Ruskies, can’t trust them…

Well, a large lunch and a long hot bath added up to a 2-hour sleepage, so probably will be staying up late tonight. Looks like the rain has moved on, but we got plenty from 9-2pm. Still need to get out and recycle off the plastic bag collection before it takes over the counter. Of course, I may have to drive past the ice cream place to do so…

Anyway, everyone take care.

hippie congrats to your daughter, her mother and you on your daughter’s good sense.

nellie, moooom, et al. The grandson baby is adorable, had gained a pound at his two week checkup and has already slept a 6 hour stretch at night (don’t know how many times)~his folks were pretty pleased. They seem to be doing fairly well rest wise. They have me wrangling Hattie on Sunday so they can fit in errands or a nap or a mind-minding hobby spell. Hattie loves Tater Tot (her brother Sorenson’s fetus name) and is sweet with him. Papa’s paternity leave ended this week but he can opt to work from home as much as his teaching load allows. I mostly creatively ignore Tater Tot and dance my complete attention on Harriet when I’m there to try to forestall any regret she might have about him showing up. It’s working so far. He is a very cute baby and looks a lot like Hattie did as a baby as well as like his mother and Uncle Thomas as a baby. So we know he is not a foundling.

I am now unemployed, by my choice. Hit the “that’s it” point today (nothing big, just a “final straw” scenario), cleared my desk, left at lunch, came home, and emailed my resignation.

Good going! Glad to hear it, they definitely weren’t worthy of you.
