Sorry things went down that way, but … sounds like an inevitability.
I sincerely hope you land somewhere that makes you happy.
I was gonna say “somewhere less crappy” but it sounds like that’s a low bar to clear.
New BBQ Job went fine today, except a buncha people called out. (I think one is in jail!) I’m always quick to hop onto whatever needs doing (mostly because it beats standing around bored) and I know that’s been noticed already.
Plus the schedule has been re-jiggered to accommodate, well, jail & illness and whatnot, and I’m working a buttload of hours next week. Once I finally get paid, I can probably at least not worry about making rent … the bills, I don’t know so much about. The wolves are howling ever louder, and it’ll be hard to chase them all from my door. I’ll have to triage.
My roomie decided to order pizza delivered. I got my own two topper, roasted chicken, mushrooms, green pepper. Which means pizza for breakfast too, which my roomie has trained me to at my late age. In return I introduced her to baked beans on toast, breakfast, lunch or dinner. I got the idea from my Brit mumper friends.
Howdy Y’all! All the mowage etc over to the church house got completed today. There were two of us. I did my usual kinda slacker minimum while he did way more than the lion’s share. To be fair, he is nonstop and just lurves doin’ this stuff, while I am of the I’ll do it cause it needs to be done variety. Also, we managed an entire day without rain although it got close. So weird! I saw big, black clouds off in the distance on my way back to da cave that looked like they were right over da cave. The closer I got the darker it got and I heard a couple significant thunder booms. However, it all stopped just short of the road I live on. Seriously, when I turned onto my road I could see the rain about a quarter mile away. Outside of another couple of big thunder booms we got nuttin’. Well, since it clouded up and the wind got up it did cool down a bit, so I took advantaged and had some Miller Time out on the back porch.
What a week…between the Monday holiday and returning to the office and having two significant conversations yesterday regarding my pending gastric bypass, I’m a bit out of sorts! I’m super glad that it’s Friday. I haven’t done anything all evening except hang out on the couch with my dog and watch episodes of Portrait Artist of the Year.
I’m sympathizing with swampbear a bit more now than I already did: this morning I learned that a friend and former co-worker lost his battle with cancer two weeks ago, at the age of 71. I knew that he’d recently stopped treatment and transitioned to home hospice, but the news was still something of a shock. We worked together from 2001-2006, and stayed in touch; I attended his 2014 ordination to the Catholic deaconate. He was a truly wonderful person.
Tomorrow I plan to knock out some of the online courses that are required for my surgery (which is looking like it’ll happen in early-to-mid Oct), and tomorrow night I’m going to D.C. for dinner and live jazz with some friends. I’m a jazz singer, and have sooooooooooo missed live music in the past year. It’ll be only the second time I’ve gone out to hear jazz since getting vaccinated, and my first time back at this particular venue. I’m ridiculously excited.
Oopsie, sorry to hear about your friend; price of all of us growing older, I guess. My condolences. And wait, you have to study to have an operation??? What, if you don’t get an 80 on the quiz they re-schedule for later!!! And enjoy the jazz…you still singin’?
swampy, weather be weird that way. I’ve driven 2 miles to shopping where in rained and then didn’t rain 4 times in that brief time.
shoe, I see a bright future for you there, if they don’t hire knuckleheads as managers…
And Seanette, congratulations, we all knew it was coming, but you did plan well for it; I’d bet they’ll be calling you to please come back and work for them…yeah, right…
BBBoo, think you’re doing it right with Hattie, but don’t completely ignore Tater!
Was going to fix a Big Bowl O’Sallit for dinner, but decided to go out anyway and went to a local place I haven’t been in awhile for grilled ham-n-cheese sammiches. Hit the spot, they did. Now back to internettin’ and readin’ till I get tired, probably near midnight due to that long nap.
We went to Bay Breeze for an early dinner tonight. I started off with a Manhattan, then had a margarita w/o sugar. We split a calamari for starters. I thought I was getting a regular cheeseburger (on a real bun!), but it turned out it was a cheeseburger with pulled pork, BBQ sauce, and bacon. I ate half of it. I’d ordered a salad instead of fries, but they brought fries. They brought me a salad big enough for dinner alone. I did steal two fries. Mrs. L.A. had pulled pork ‘tacos’. (We can’t call them tacos if the tortillas are flour.)
Mrs. L.A. is having margaritas. I’m having white tequila with Perrier and lime. We ran out of the Monarch tequila (the cheap stuff). Mrs’ L.A. is having a margarita with Kirkland tequila from Costco. She says she likes it. ‘It has flavour!’
My back is better, but I didn’t go to the gym. The inner drill sergeant is not happy. Too bad.
I ordered a packable duffle bag. I leave Tuesday for Chi-town to visit family, and from there we’re heading to Michigan and my brother’s house. Space in vehicle to Michigan is very limited, so I planned to pack a duffle bag for that part of the trip. I ordered one, and it arrived today, inside out and zipped! And there are gaps in the zipper. So I have to return it and try to find a store within walking distance to get a new one. Le sigh.
Boo, I can’t imagine any family taking better care to make sure Child #1 feels secure. Kudos to all of you. And I LOVE the nickname Tater Tot!
Nettie, that faint clapping sound you hear is me applauding you for your bold and wise decision to leave the way you did.
hippie, wow, that’s a close call with the unsavory. I agree with Boo: you and sunflower did a good job of raising that gal. I’m not sure I understand what “put together children’s select basketball teams” means. Does it involve recruiting kids for basketball teams that aren’t affiliated with a school district? Sounds ripe for scams to me.
MetalMouse, I am also a hot bath aficionado. Is there anything a hot bath, garlic, and a glass of wine can’t cure? I may climb in a hot bath tonight.
Morning, mumpers! It’s been a busy day already - been to the gym for bootcamp and spin, then came home for a shower, hair wash and tending to the critters again. Much tea-drinking is taking place Bootcamp was “interesting”, it was a tough class and it was hot so the instructor put the aircon on…except he didn’t check the settings and we wondered why we were all still so hot. Cleared up stuff after the class and set the studio up for spin as I was staying for that too, the spin instructor checked the aircon and realised it was still set on “humid” from last night’s hot yoga class! No wonder we were dripping…
Off to town for errands next, lunch at the Good Chinese Place and then whatever else we need to do. We’re meeting up with a friend this evening to get some food and then see a couple of bands. Given the fact that the Bumbling Binbag of Custard wants to drop all social distancing and mask-wearing from 19th July, this will potentially be our last seated, socially distanced gig. Not quite sure how I feel about that.
Oops enjoy the jazz - are you watching or singing?
nettie so glad to hear you’ve quit Hades Annexe and done it in style. I too await the frantic begging calls for you to come back and bail them out. I hope you don’t give in!
Apparently there’s some big football match on here, everyone seems to be quite excited about it. Not I, not a fan…but I’m sure we’ll hear all about it all day on the news.
Oopsie - jazz singer?? Like Jolson? Or Neil Diamond?? Very cool. There’s a jazz
festival in Leonardtown this weekend, but we won’t be attending. In fact, we don’t do a whole lot these days because FCD’s knees just can’t take it. I’ll be so glad when he gets his new ones. And good luck with your surgicals!!
nettie - YAAAAAAAAAY!! I just know you’ll land somewhere better, but then it’d almost have to be better, right? Good luck!
shoe - your job adventures have my head spinning! Sounds like this might be a pretty good fit, at least for now. So yay for you, too!!
After supper yesterday, we had to go to DQ. No, really, we had to - it was a moral imperative!! I got a peanut buster parfait, as did FCD, but he got his with caramel instead of hot fudge and he said it was really good. I wonder if they’d make one with some of both? I’ll ask next time. Yum!
Much rain again last night - I hadn’t expected that - and it’s nice and cool this morning. I think I’ll start the day (after a shower and getting dressed) by cutting off all the dead stalks from former daylilies. And I’ll take the cart and collect the few branches that fell. Beyond that, no clue what I’ll do - maybe start reconstituting clay for future projects? Oh, and I found a shelf to put up in my studio for the TV. I don’t watch while claying, but I play music via YouTube or other sources. Should be a productive and chill day.
They won’t be doing that. Employees are interchangeable bits of office equipment, not human beings, over there. Sup was planning to rearrange who was sitting where anyway, and I’m told my former desk already has an occupant again.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I was a slugabed until eight a.m.! 'Tis 72 Amurrkin out and sorta N.O.S. with a predicted high of 91 and maybe some rain this afternoon. Or not. Who knows anymore! After I posted last night it rained, so we did not in fact go a whole day without rain. No big plans for the day at all. Maybe some quality cee-mint pond time. Lots of sloth shall ensue for sure. Any need to feed will be via forage as we have plenty of sammich makin’s, chips, etc.
NelttieHOORAY!!! So glad you are free of Hades Annex!
Hippie y’all done good raisin’ that daughter.
Oopsie have fun at the concert. So sorry about your friend. Like MetalMouse said, it’s gettin’ to be a sorta common thing amongst us older Dopers. Not sure if that includes you, or not.
Nellie I didn’t notice until this mornin’ but yestiddy was your Doperversary. Happy Belated Doperversary!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
It was a cool 65 when I left the house this morning. It’s already heating up out there though.
Echo showed her ass at the park yesterday. She attacked Milo, and then as I was trying to get her out of there, she attacked him again.
Today, she was lovely. New dogs came into the park, she played nice with them, and she didn’t attack Panini. She made puppy Bread yelp a few times, but that was from playing too rough, and Bread can handle it anyway.
Congrats Nettie on leaving a horrible situation.
I, too, just had another death in the family. My cousin’s husband. I don’t have her number so I’ll call her brother today. I won’t be going to the viewing or service though. I maybe could make the 2-4 viewing, but the other viewing is 6-8, and the service is at 8.
Like Swampy says, this is starting to become a regular occurrence.
FlyBoy, that burger sounds good.
Today I have a ton of paperirk to do. Help my son sign up for some benefits becoming available. I have to work on fixing the phone bill so we can get his discount. AT&T told me they would get back to me within 72 hours. That was a lie.
The refinance people called me; want to know why I hadn’t had the appraisal done. Ummm, because nobody has called me about it. That was Wednesday and still haven’t heard anything.
I know appraisers aren’t looking at the dust, but I still want the house in perfect condition when they come through. Good timing too, as the Purple Heart is coming out on the 19th. Now is the perfect time to go through everything, room by room, and get rid of stuff. I told them I would have 4-10 bags.
Morning all. Stayed up until near midnight and slept until 8am, so should be regulated once more. 50% chance of rain today/tonight/tomorrow, so I’ll probably hang around the house…one good thing about the rain is that the temperature won’t be getting about the mid-80’s F, which is nice for this time in North Ali-Bama.
Sari, I also give to Purple Heart, don’t know much about them but they don’t hassle me between pickups or send me stuff in the mail, so they are all right by me.
Boo fae, that sounds like way to much exercise for one such as me…but hope it keeps you in shape.
OK, need to decide on some sustenance and check the credit card statements on-line, to see that things are correct. All y’all take care. flyboy, sounds like you got their ‘cholesterol’ burger. Could you feel your arteries hardening? (says the guy who is avidly awaiting the opening of a Whataburger about 3 miles away…).
It was good. The first bite tasted mostly of applewood bacon. The next bite tasted mostly of cheeseburger. Subsequently, it tasted of cheeseburger, bacon, and BBQ pulled pork. Rather messy, but good.
Be fair! I only ate half of it! And I had salad instead of fries.
I googled “bay breeze burger” hoping to find a picture of it. I found lots of pics, but only one that looked like the Bay Breeze Burger – except it looked like it had an egg on it. (I found that one on page 2 of 85 photos on Yelp.)
Speaking of Yelp, I read a couple of reviews. I sorted by the latest reviews and was surprised to see a one-star review from two weeks ago. We’ve had good experiences there since it became Bay Breeze. Prior to that, we went to whatever it was before when that restaurant just opened. After being seated on the roof and 15 minutes went by without water or a menu, we left. We didn’t go back until it became Bay Breeze a couple/few years later. The food and service have always been good. Of course, Mrs. L.A. likes to eat like a retiree so we get there around 4 o’clock so it’s not crowded.
I looked at their website, and they have an ‘About’ page. It’s mostly about Birch Bay. It says there are about 8,000 year-round residents here, and the Summer population is around 20,000. IIRC, there were about 5,000 year-round residents when I moved here.
