Revisiting covid denial and covid restrictions

The number of people that intentionally got Covid could probably be counted on the fingers of one foot.

I’d argue that by intentionally ignoring easy public health interventions, and, frankly, basic fucking common sense, they did intentionally get COVID.

But what do I know? I’m just a virologist

“Well” people.
Not sick people.

I self quarantined. Most people were encouraged to stay out of public places unless by necessity.
Self distancing and masking was mandated.

I know of no obviously healthy person who was forced into quarantine.
May have seemed extreme, but it was not a law. Just a mandate and serious encouragement.
Places closed because smart people stayed home.

I took @SuntanLotion to be referring to the shutdowns, not to shutting people up in individual houses. You’re right, I think, that at least in the USA, people not known to be ill weren’t put in quarantine unless they’d been known to be recently exposed; but in some areas entire cities were telling people to stay home except for the most urgent errands, and for some this amounted to staying in their apartments.

And places closed in many states because state governments told them that they had to.

Everyone was told they were only allowed outside one hour a day. Was that just Ohio? There was also a curfew of 10 p.m. guess people can catch viruses easier at night.

You missed all of the folks loudly proclaiming that we needed to get as many people as possible infected as quickly as possible?

We never had complete closures. No curfew I remember. You could get in Walmart, Grocery stores and the like. They limited entry to a certain amount at a time.
Restaurants closed because no one ate out. A few places had delivery(limited) and pick-up.
I think bars stayed open. It’s not a fancy kinda bar place. Mostly “joints”. No one policed those places.
Boutiques, clothing stores and that kinda thing mostly stayed closed. Some went outta business.
No malls.
No public transportation around here. Schools were closed, of course.
I don’t think they told anyone they couldn’t go outside.

Cite for either of these claims?

Were the ones doing the yelling the same ones that were actually doing it?

Your cite:
"The curfew will not apply to those going to or from work, those who have an emergency, or those who need medical care. The curfew is not intended to stop anyone from getting groceries or going to a pharmacy. Picking up carry-out or a drive-thru meal and ordering for delivery will be permitted, but serving food and drink in person must cease at 10 p.m. "

A newsman went into a bar in mentor ( Ed Gallek) and asked the one guy in the bar why he was endangering everyone.
I was walking home from a friends at 9.55 and a police car stopped and asked if I was near home.

That was an exact quote? What is your cite?

Theres no convincing people sometimes. When the next pandemic comes, it will be a more severe lockdown, which I plan to flout.
Back to your regular convo.
Remember, the government only exists to serve you and keep you healthy.

Sooo…no cite for the bar claim?

I knew a Flat Earther who justified his views by saying “governments lie”. Yeah, they sometimes do. But government is not one monolithic institution but a collection of very different divisions. Don’t always blame on malevolence all that which may be better explained by degree of competence.

Well, that is your opinion, I suppose. In times like these I am reminded of something Harlan Ellison once said: “Everybody has opinions: I have them, you have them. And we are all told from the moment we open our eyes, that everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. Well, that’s horsepuckey, of course. We are not entitled to our opinions; we are entitled to our informed opinions. Without research, without background, without understanding, it’s nothing. It’s just bibble-babble. It’s like a fart in a wind tunnel, folks.”

What do you mean that people can’t pass it along? That’s how these viruses work. By the way, vaccinated people pass it along at much lower rates than unvaccinated. People who quarantine themselves obviously don’t pass it along at all.

Curfews are to minimize partying, which where you got superspreader events.

You know, were all just humans(I assume the monkeys are weeded out)
Peeps of varying choices, lifestyles, and ideas.

Not everyone one knows the same things. Or have encountered different situations.

The Internet is full of misinformation. People don’t agree. Our leaders have been known to just flat out lie.

What is the average individual supposed to do?

Personally I read, ask, and go with my gut. I’ve made terrible misjudgements and some successes.
