Accidentally stumbled across a fans reworking of the official Superman costume from the new Supes film. I think it addresses many of the issues and it works, on the whole, much better for me.

Lacking a witty way to put this: What’s the difference?
The trunks are bit larger.
Ah, I didn’t realize the changes were subtle. I couldn’t notice them until I tiled the browser windows. The logo is smaller too.
The symbol is larger, the neck is lower, the trunks are bigger and the reds are brighter. I like it.
Oh I got them the wrong way round.
I don’t like the trunks being larger. Makes him look like sixties surfer dude. Oversize logo is too comedic.
I think the touch-ups were supposed to bring the costume more in line with the one in the original movies with Reeves. At least that is what it looks like to me.
The logo is a bit much.
I wonder if it peels off…
Why does he even need to bother with a costume? We all know he becomes totally unrecognisable when he puts on his specs.
The cape is also attached at the shoulders, as appropriate. Personally, the trunks I could go either way on. The larger logo, I prefer, but I think if he twists his torso, it might not bend right.
The cape is much better.
Both look a bit retro. Of course, that may be the look they’re going for. Me, I’d like something a bit darker.
!!! Didn’t even know they were making a new Superman movie! But here it is on the imdb – Superman Returns: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0348150/
Sure hope it’s way better than Superman III . . . or [sob] Superman IV . . .
You must be delusional. There was no III or IV.
Aren’t the boot tops a little higher in the revised outfit?
I would get rid of the “reverse color” “S” belt buckle. It sort of says to me, “Superman is having a wee identity crisis. He’s not sure how his logo should look, and wants to remind you he’s Superman.”
Yep. about an inch or so.
NO CAPES!
But if they redesign the costume, wouldn’t this affect his flying abilities?
After all, it’s the costume that makes him fly. Right?
That’s right…the cape, to be exact.
The ones in the Halloween costumes never worked, though, sadly.
Another unfortunate connotation of the S-logo belt buckle:
“Look! It’s Superdick!”
Why does Superman even need a costume?
Who’s gonna make him wear one?
Think of the advantages:
1.) No Cape!
2.) Makes it easier to hide his Secret Identity, since no one looks at his face
3.) No need to worry about rips, tears, burns, or improbable explanations about how his costume is “super”, too.
4.) It puts him on a level with Dr. Manhattan (at least from late in the series Watchmen)
5.) No need to hide that damned cape
