Pead hasn’t really been a bust. The Rams’ tailback job is still pretty much up in the air; Pead tore his MCL and is out for this season, but could very well win the job for 2015.
So, is he salvageable with a change of scenery and a better QB coach, in all of YHOs, or is he headed straight for JaMarcusville? I ask from the POV of a Texans fan, who is looking at a bleak wilderness of Tom Savage or Grizzly Adams QB play, and is optimistically wondering if RGIII might be worth trading a 3rd rounder for. Not like Rick Smith would draft a starter with that pick anyway. And it’s not like they have a hope in hell of Mariota.
Have you given up on Mallett already? He’s looked okay to me for a guy with virtually no first team reps. I know he’s injured but it’s not like the 'Skins are going to trade Griffin in-season anyway.
I still think Griffin is salvageable by Washington, and I initially thought Griffin was going to be a huge bust… Gruden is a fine offensive coach and RGIII is still just a year out from blowing out his knee, and just a few weeks out from a dislocated ankle. As a run-first guy I would have been surprised if he didn’t show substantial ill effects.
Yes, he’s still salvageable, which is why I doubt Washington would trade him. Also, not sure if he and Bill O’Brian would mix well. There will be QB options in the mid first round.
This Texans fan hasn’t.
But the reports range from a couple weeks to the rest of the season, meaning we’ve got Fitzpatrick to look forward to.
As it is, I’d be comfortable giving Mallett a 2 year deal for a modest sum. It’s not like franchise QBs grow on trees, and he’s a definite upgrade over Fitzpatrick as it stands, meaning he’s at least an average NFL starting QB, though I’d be hard pressed to say he’s got a future as a Hall of Famer.
He is out the rest of the season. Torn pectoral. Which is better than the torn labrum I had heard he had. He’s a free agent next year. I agree with you that franchise QBs don’t grow on trees; the problem is, I’m not sure Mallett is one. Agreed though that he’s better than Grizzly. I dunno if he’d take Fitzy’s 2 years/8M contract either.
I like Fitzy. I like the hustle and grit with which he plays. He just doesn’t have the physical tools to be a good NFL QB, and he doesn’t make the perfect decisions with the ball that someone with his skills would need to do in order to be an acceptable NFL QB.
Honestly, I’d like to see Savage, just so they’d have some data about how much to target QB in the offseason. There’s just too much ground for them to make up to make the playoffs, even granting them 3 wins in the last five games. They’re losing to either Indy on the road, or Baltimore at home, and probably both of them. 9-7 isn’t making the playoffs in the AFC this year.
Griffin has now been benched in favor of Colt McCoy.
