I can’t see her giving up such a platform for her views easily. Does anybody know the backstory to this?
Fired, obviously. She was way too controversial for her show. Surprised it took this long for her to be fired.
The point of the show is not to rile up the housefraus who make up most of the audience, is it to placate them with soothing thoughts and mild genial conversation. Grosie is out of place here.
From the link:
“…while we’ve tried to come to terms on a deal that would extend her co-hosting duties on ‘The View,’ we find ourselves unable to agree on some key elements”
I’m going to guess that she just wanted more money than they were willing to give, especially since she seems to be taking the whole thing relatively well. If they’d actually called her on all the conspiracy theories she likes to spout on-air, she’d be bleating about free speech right now.
I don’t think she was fired. Controversial as she is, she’s the only thing giving this show life anymore. I think she is getting her own show.
And yet ratings were up in the female demographics over last year’s. Usually money is the deciding factor so she probably just priced herself higher than ABC thought she was worth. Maybe she did that so she could walk away and start her own show.
She will still guest host, and do specials. Other than money, there were issues on the length of contract, etc.

She’s still going to be on the show; just not every day. Everyone’s cheerful about it except Ba-ba, who is bumming that she’s not staying full time.
… and they have to make room at the table for Katie!
She jumped, obviously, and she knew exactly what she was doing.
By being deliberately controversial, she made herself notable at a time when she was on the verge of disappearing. Now she can point to a year of increased ratings as evidence that she deserves a new show of her own or something.
She is a disgusting human being, but she knows how to play the celebrity/hollywood game. Or perhaps that should be “therefore.”
Although Rosie has a tendency to put her foot in her mouth more often than food, I like her. She has certainly put this show back on the radar.
I never watch The View (too much screaming and talking simultaneously - gives me a headache) but my best guess is that Rosie really does want more money.
Plus, why should she play fourth fiddle on a show when she could easily snap her fingers and get a show of her own again? She ain’t exactly poor - so unless there was a financial incentive, why stick around? She probably bowed out on her own.
I heard that they told her she was only allowed one square of toliet paper per visit next season and she said she was quitting… she said, “Have you seen my @ss???”
Very convenient contract timing. I think they wanted her to go and the contract gave them a good excuse to just move on, with ABC agreeing to say it was differences over the contract.
Expect Rosie to get a new foothold and make a point to say she was pushed out the door.
I wonder if they’ll bring back Star Jones…?
:: Laughing himself sick.::
Clever that her scheduled mid-June departure is announced in April just before May sweeps month.
I expect some hot topics the final month she is there, if anything to boost ratings and force advertisers to pay a higher rate once she’s gone.
It’s possible they didn’t meet her price because of her nuttiness (without saying so, of course).
I believe she’s had other offers. There was talk of a spin-off of her character on HBO’s Nip/Tuck for a while there. You know, they’ve been talking about Rosie possibly leaving for other things ever since she joined the show. Chances are good it’s mutual or Rosie did overprice herself and this way they both get to save face, “we never made a mistake hiring her/we supported her all along”.
She was never the fourth fiddle. She talked more than anybody else on that show.
I don’t hate her but I don’t like her much either. I do dispise Donald Trump, so his hatred of her makes me less inclined to hate her. Why can’t that man just shut up about her? He sounds like a whiney, petty child … with bad hair.
Couldn’t agree more - neither of them are people I’d care to have a beer with. Rosie does seem to wreak havok whereever she goes, tho. Remember, she had a show before, left it, started a magazine , left that, came to the View, and is now leaving that. I think she has some problems.
Watched “Sleepless in Seattle” yesterday - Rosie was GOOD in that movie - also cute.
I hear there’s an opening at MSNBC.
Why is Rosie such a terrible person?
