Sailing Maine – a post-vacation MMP

Busy busy morning. So far, I’ve mowed the yard, including the ditches, helped bring in 48 gallons of water for an aquarium change, started the laundry, and ran to WaWa for a breakfast sammich. And I showered.

Gonna be a hot day, and except for taking out the laundry, I’m staying indoors.

Except also for taking the idiot dogs out, which I have to do now…

OK, I just have to share this. I just now took Scruffy and Cosmo out. Cosmo is psycho - he’s a puppy and he thinks he’s a cat, but he’s also way high energy, running around like his ass is on fire. Scruffy, on the other hand, proceeds at a slow mosey, so Cosmo makes up for it by literally running circles around her. Till he ran around her and went face first into an azalea trunk. Cracked me up - he’s such a loon!

OK, off to read the funnies…

I’m up, have made coffee and have retrieved my dogs from the neighbor’s yard. Stoopit dogs.

This neighbor’s fence has a stringer that rotted on the bottom. Brandi figured this out and was able to pry the boards enough so that she could get in there and Polar followed. Fortunately, we’re extremely friendly with this particular neighbor; we’ve partied with him and hubby goes wakeboarding with him all the time. Still and all, I didn’t want to wake him up, so I lifted the fence boards enough so the dogs could get back through.

I will be talking to him about fixing the bottom stringer though, so that my dogs can’t get into his yard. Hopefully, putting the invisible fence up will also give them enough incentive to stay away from there anyway.

Hubby is golfing with friends today and then they’ll drive him to their house for a party. I’ll meet him at their house in time for the party.

I guess I should grab that first cup of coffee.

This bares repeating: There is no snooze button on a cat who wants breakfast. at 5:fricking30 am!
After feeding her, I fell back asleep until about an hour ago. I need a nap already

Thought you might appreciate that, swampy.

Huh. I could swear I posted something other than that link yesterday. I had a couple of problems with Firefox yesterday, so maybe I clicked too many tabs closed at some point.

Yay for DH’s job, gotti! This is the place where he did a couple rounds of temping, right? (Would that company be headquartered in Cincinnati, by any chance?)

And glad you’re at least getting some temp jobs among the catering, Sticky.

Continued hugs for the picus.

We went to the Jazz & Rib Fest for lunch yesterday, despite the heat. It was yummy. I’d like to go back today to try food from a different vendor and hear more music, but it’s going to be too hot today, I think.

So, instead, I’m going to the farmer’s market in a few and then to the local arts and crafts fair before it gets incredibly hot.

Then it’s home to do a bunch of productive stuff.

Happy Saturday, all!

Fourth load in the washer, three on the lines. Just the few minutes it takes to hang out some sheets and pillowcases gets me all hot and sweaty, and not in a good way. But I’ve gotten the aquarium water mixed and all our dirties are downstairs and sorted. I may be able to get one more load done before daughter gets back. She needs to do laundry since she’s going to camp tomorrow for 2 weeks. I can finish mine tomorrow.

There are more 'maters to harvest, along with the 8 or so sitting on the counter. I’m thinking lunch will be a couple of 'mater sammiches, and supper will include 'maters on the side of whatever. Good thing I only have 3 pots of them…

I’ve also got 2 old dogs crashed out and snoozing and a puppy wandering around looking for… who knows what? I take him out when I hang clothes and so far, he hasn’t peed in here, so that’s good. We haven’t had a young puppy in over 25 years - doggone, they’re a lot of work! Yet another reason when ours go to their rewards, we become cat people.

Hugs and congrats and good wishes and butt-pinches and sympathetic hand pats all around - take what you need. It’s too hot to keep all the names straight. Plus I’m old - **swampy **would know what that’s like… :stuck_out_tongue: Thursday by my reckoning…

Because I’m insane, I’m going out in the heat to the arts and crafts festival. I’ll be wearing sunscreen and a hat and am dressed as lightly as possible. Also, I’m carrying water.

It’s a 10-minute walk, if I walk slowly and I can cool off inside the library before turning around and coming back. At least it’s clouded over some; hopefully for a while.

Have been to farmers’ market and come back with corn, 1 kohlrabi and 1 cucumber. First ear of corn has been consumed per tradition. Yum.

Back later, hopefully not melted.

Up, talked to the parents and I have now fully ingested a lot of coffee to get me going. Now I have 70 bajillion errands to run and also the dishwasher to unload.

It is hot here today as well. Again. Triple digits.

I’m tired of sitting on my ass in the air conditioning, so I’ll be going out shortly to do the one annual chore that begs for weather like this. Time to pressure wash the algae off the back of my house.

I’ll have to make sure I get in the way of the backsplash. Many, many times…

All four loads of laundry are out on the lines. The sheets smell soooooo good, I’m going to leave them out even tho they’re dry. Daughter is doing her laundry/napping. **FCD **is futzing with his aquarium. I’ve been shopping for a new computer. I found a tower that looks promising and has gotten several reallly good reviews - off to research it some more.

I don’t know what the temp is right now, but it’s hot. I am ready for autumn. Summer sucks.

I just bought tickets to see Weird Al! Not only will it be my first time seeing Al in person, it’ll be my first concert ever.

I also bought my laptop last night and I’m getting new glasses this afternoon. Yay!

Sounds like the perfect plan, Bobbio. Please place Ohio in the way of the backsplash as well.

STG: Yay! Hope you like Weird Al. His was one of the most fun concerts I’ve ever been to (not that I’ve been to a lot, but I’ve been to some very good ones). And yay for new glasses!

Weather.com says it’s 90 here, but feels like 102. Yep, that about sums it up. It’s supposed to be cooler tomorrow and the 10-day forecast is all low- to mid-80s (except Wednesday, when it’s supposed to get up to 89). So there’s hope.

Walked to the festival. Looked at pretty stuff. Thought about buying a couple of items. Bought a can of pop. Came home and was slightly rained on. (Yay!)

Am now cooling off and considering having a bit more for lunch (already had corn and some cottage cheese). Perhaps some carrots and celery.

Need to clean the fridge, do laundry and do some serious filing and shredding.

We’ll see what I can talk myself into.

Am currently trying to finish row 7 of section 4 of the shawl I’m knitting. I hate row 7 in this pattern. It’s an interminable stretch of knit-two-togethers that takes this section down from 348 stitches to 177. Ick.

Back later.

Hugs.

HOT!!!

My tomatoes are ripening like crazy. Daughter will take a bunch to her friends this afternoon because there’s no way we can eat that many before they go bad. Especially with more on the vine close to being ready. Glad I didn’t plant more.

I’ve been in touch with my sister - it occurred to me that I’ve never made afghans for her kids, and now that they’re virtually adults, they’ll probably find them especially welcome. So I’ve tried to find out their color preferences and soon I’ll start my Christmas knitting. Maybe thinking cool thoughts will help?

Good afternoon! Intellicast says 90 degrees, with a heat index of 98. Dang. That’s cool for around here. Hubby and son are at the storage room, daughter is sitting here reading a Star Wars book, and I’m having fun. In a few minutes, I’m going to go set up a reed infuser in the bathroom. I hope the scent doesn’t make people hurl.

I’ve just renewed my geek cred.

I used Windows command line to get the file names of about 500 files and save it to a text file. Admittedly I didn’t know how to do it 20 minutes ago, but I did it. And I can do it again. I iz awesome!

Yes, this is the place - only took four temp gigs. But no, they’re not from Cincinnati.

Heat index of 113 this afternoon. That’s gone beyond “UGH!” into “GET INSIDE BEFORE YOU DIE!” levels.

Had a new experience today - the North Carolina Renaissance Fest holds formal auditions. Our previous Faire was much looser - if you were interested in participating, you’d just show up on the first day of workshops and ask questions/wander around until you found something that sounded good.

Back to work. Bleah.

96°. Heat index 114°.

Ugh.

I’ve just found out that hubby’s computer is severely infected with viruses and malware. My daughter’s boyfriend is attempting to fix it, but it’s not looking good. I think he’s going to have wipe his whole drive.

Hubby isn’t here, so he doesn’t know. I didn’t know because I rarely, if ever, get on to hubby’s computer.

The VA RenFaire does also. My daughter did it one year but they were *waaaaaaaaay *to serious about it for her tastes. She declined this year.

I think I’m finally done with chores. The aquarium is mega-clean, the carpet has been vacuumed, laundry is in, and the beds are made. We went to the Irish pub for supper, and now we’re home chilling. I’m afraid my air conditioner is going to melt down - it’s been running almost non-stop and it’s not getting cooler than 77 in here. With luck, it’ll cool down tonight. I hope.

Other than finishing the laundry tomorrow and taking the trash and recycling, I plan to be a slug. Slugging is good. It’d be better if I could sleep in past 5, but I’m not counting on it…

I really really really want to go out for a walk, but I’m afraid it might be too hot. It’s not as hot as it is at Rebo’s or gotti’s (the heat index is a mere 98), but still, not comfortable.

So I’ma go to the ice cream shop and see how far I can walk while eating ice cream.

After that it’s laundry time. Woo hoo.

Back after a bit.
