You’d pretty much to prowl flea markets to find a newer video card for this one. It really is time to consider an upgrade.
Could be worse, a former co-worker ran a 24" display at 800x600, and ran mainframe sessions full-screen. The letters were about a half-inch tall and could be read from a few yards away. (He was all but legally blind and has retired.)
My work laptop is over two years old, which is why I was surprised that it could drive two 1920x1280 monitors on a wide desktop of 3840x1280 on whatever its built-in video “card” is. You really don’t realize how fuzzy and dim an old monitor is until you replace it.
Not to worry, it’s a chocolate fountain. I suppose she could fondue me to death.
I’m just sitting here inside Starbucks waiting for her. I decided that a few minutes worth of the aroma of coffee was worth it for the air conditioning!
Look like an upgrade will win. One of FCD’s coworker will build us one for cost, so I’ve asked him to talk to the guy. Since I’m not a hard-core gamer (apart from the occasional round of FreeCell) I don’t need fancy graphics or sound. So looks like maybe my Dell will have to disappear. I better get all my photos and documents copied soon.
Still no supper decision. Daughter has arrived safely at my mom’s. We’ll see her tomorrow afternoon. Meanwhile, it’s just the two of us, and three dogs, and three cats…
I broke down and toasted bread for sammiches. I know. I suffer and sacrifice so!
In other news, my digital cable box is apparently all wonky. The picture on the tv in the living room breaks up on most all of the channels. According to the Mediacom tech person I talked with, the box is not responding. Thus a technician is comin’ out on, get this, SUNDAY between one and five pm. I don’t have a prob with that time frame but was surprised about the Sunday. I even asked the guy if he was sure he meant Sunday and he said it’s a work day for cable techs so someone will show up to look at the box and if necessary be prepared to replace it. We shall see.
I was just cooking up a late lunch/early supper. I boiled up a pot of tortellini. And when it was done I was adding some sauce. I use tomato paste and pesto from those squeeze tubes and then add a little olive oil.
But as I squeezed out a bunch of tomato paste, I thought the color looked off. Too brown and not enough red. It was a new tube but I was thinking maybe it had spoiled. Then I noticed it wasn’t tomato paste - it was anchovy paste.
I was able to spoon some of it off but I just went ahead and mixed in the rest.
Hey, y’all! Had a very good, productive day at work: the kind of day that really makes me feel good about my job. Nobody bothered me, and outside of a meeting, just did my job all day long. It was fabulous. Then, after a nice 45 minute run on the treadmill, I’m home relaxing. I hate the treadmill: I feel like a hamster. But it’s better than running outside in Mississippi in July. ICK.
Our DVD player broke so I had to brave Walmart today to go get a new one as well as pick up something I had shipped to the store. The whole visit was very traumatic and crowded and full of kidlets running riot and man could I have posted some awesome pictures the ‘People of Walmart’ website. I remembered why I much prefer Target
I also picked out the new lights we will be installing in the entryway, kitchen over the sink and in the dining area. When I say we I mean mr ems will be installing while I supervise as I really don’t like ladders
Triple digits again here today outside so I have had the AC cranked
Oooh, cool, that’s much better than what I used way back when. I think I’m going to use it for a while. I also have a friend at work who’s kind of frustrated with her weight loss struggle. We walk together, but she hasn’t really been doing very well with food. Maybe this will help her.
Long day, long commute, and now I must create some kind of dinner.
I’m so tired I’m not hungry, but my husband and son are.
My daughter started her summer classes today. Her classes start at 9:00 in the morning and she doesn’t get out until 8:20 at night. She’s doing this on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Thankfully, it’s only for a month, but day-um, nearly 12 hours a day in school?!
I told her she could spend the nights here on Mondays, if she wanted, so she could have a shorter drive and do any required homework, and have a shorter drive on Tuesday mornings.
I don’t think she’ll take me up on the offer, but I hope she does.
I suppose I should figure out what I’m going to prepare for dinner.
Only serious whine is that the place is very disorganized. But I see that more as a challenge for me to fix than a problem.
There’s also no break room, but this is California! I can eat outside!
So far my bosses seem pleased with me, possibly because the part-time graphics person doesn’t care very much. She does the work, but nothing extra. Me, I figure anything I do to improve the place makes my life easier too.
Well, Hubby went to the doctor today. He’s off work for at least 2 weeks, no physical exertion, cardiac work up, and antibiotics for the pneumonia they found on his x-ray.
The doc thinks maybe he has an undiscovered cardiac anomaly. In other words, his heart is made wrong and no one noticed in 45 years. If true, he could have early pulmonary hypertension. A bad thing, but good to be caught early.
He’s quit smoking, but has begged for smokes from everyone he sees. I’ve kept him in line for now, but, I’m afraid the first time he gets out on his own, it will be all over. He’s made it three days. He still gets his normal dose of nicotine, but he’s really having trouble with the ritual.
And a special thanks to all who gave me links and offered supportive help with my weight loss program!! Thank you -all- so much (GT, Taters, Scones … hope I"m not missing anyone!) I wish some of you were here, though, cause the partner aspect would help me considerably, especially for my exercise, which is water walking. Come on now, you know you’d just love to move to the DC area, wouldn’t ya?! LOL Yeah… heat advisory starts tomorrow … by Saturday it will feel well over 100!!!
So far, so good with my leg, btw. It is aching just a little tonight, which it probably will until I go thru a couple of cycles of bandages. Good thoughts on this are, of course, greatly appreciated.
[Kermit the Frog] ::waves arms wildly:: YAAAAAAAAY!!! [/KtF]
:D:D:D:D:D
Sending speedy healing vibes your way.
Good news from rehearsal tonight - we’re relocating. The Jewish Center we’ve been at since January '08 has had its share of obstacles, but lately things like an as yet unrepaired (3 weeks, now) a/c had us looking for a new space. We found one, and they’re bending over backwards to accommodate us.
Early day tomorrow - they’re teaching me a new task. 'bout time, dammit. Everyone else on the team has been cross-trained for over a year.
Oh - and the evil cow-irker who no matter how polite and considerate I am towards always treats me like dirt under her feet is retiring in a month! [Kermit the Frog] ::waves arms wildly:: YAAAAAAAAY!!! [/KtF]
