Spiny got the weekend off, just so we could come play with all you SanDi Dopes… it’d better be fun!
We’ll be driving down on Saturday morning and will possibly go to the Wild Animal Park. If anyone wants to join us, you’re more than welcome! We’ll spend the night and stay for brunch on Sunday, but we’ll have to skip Sea World.
Yay, Shayna and Spiny! It won’t be your Fish N’ Chips Fest, but it’ll be fun nonetheless. I might join you for the Wild Animal Park, as I have passes and a membership and such, and I’m certain I could drag thomasm and jkusters along for that.
Monkey, there is no etiquette. You show up, you get a nametag, you make pirate ships out of french fries. What more could you want in a Dopefest? And if you want to find us, look for some sign about Dopers or Cecil Adams (or perhaps the “Coldfire Is A Hot Hootchie Mama Fan Club”). I’d say look for the rowdy bunch, but that defines Corvettes, so…
The cost is $15.50 per person, which includes one entree and unlimited mimosas, champagne and bloody mary’s.
HOWEVER, I had to make a guaranteed reservation, as they can’t guarantee walk-ins (they do often sell out). That means if people don’t show up, I have to pay for them anyway.
Now, the good news is we have time, but the bad news is I need to know by June 12definitely who will attend; also, if you say you’ll attend, I’ll hold you to the money even if you don’t make it. (Sorry, I love you all, but not that much. ) I made reservations for 10, but we can change that accordingly as we get closer.
Hey there, neighbor - welcome to the SDMB. I’m down the hill from you in Palm Springs. If I can get off work the 14th, I might talk Mr. Beckwall into a trip to SD for our very first DopeFest. The 15th is out, and the 14th is doubtful but I will keep you posted. We could carpool, if you like that sort of thing.
So how was the eclipse last night up there in the high desert???
And if you don’t want to sign up for an Evite account, let me know and I’ll e-mail the invitation to you directly so you don’t have to.
Alternately, just RSVP here in the thread and I’ll make sure you get on the list. The big thing is I included a PayPal link if you want to pay for the brunch up front.
SisterCoyote you’re invited to spend the night at Casa Encinitas with the 3 cats and (sadly) now only one dog. Esprix, move me to the “attending” column.
My apologies, but JustPlainBryan and I won’t be able to make it, after all. We’ve been invited to an out-of-town wedding later in the month and we can only afford one trip.
Sorry. We’ll have to see each other again another time.

Change of plans – we’ve decided to spend Saturday at Balboa Park instead of the Wild Animal Park. Some friends were there a few weeks ago and raved about how cool the museums are (and Thomas is really not a zoo person at all). We saw some of the pictures they took from the car museum and they were awesome. We’d like to have lunch at The Prado, and reservations are recommended, so if anyone does want to join us, please let us know so we can phone ahead to make sure we get seating.
P.S. The Fish-N-Chips fest was planned and orchestrated by cadolphin. I wouldn’t want to take any of the credit away from her for the wonderful job she did setting up such a fun event! And I’m sure this one is going to be just as excellent. We’re very excited about coming!
Hey! I think SpaceGhostofArrakis might be stationed in San Diego. Let’s get him/her to come too. Also, since I just figured out that MonkeyMensch lives in Encinitas too, I’d sure like to make his/her acquaintance.
I just told Arrakis he was more than welcome - even as a lurker. Maybe we’ll get him out.
I still haven’t found a replacement for me on Sunday yet, but I’m working on it. Once I’ve got that secured, I’ll be in for Sunday. I’ll report back when it’s for sure.
Just today I got spam from the LA Times inviting me to visit “beautiful, sunny San Diego.” Unfortunately, even with the enticing prices on offer, I will have to just hold on to the memories of Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlor.
Have fun, you guys! (Actually, with Esprix hosting, how could you not have fun?)
