I roasted a turkey yesterday for a dinner with friends. They did not want the carcass so I took home the bones, fats, scraps and so on. Today I roasted a turkey for myself. I do one a year, to have meat for soup, sandwiches, and turkey salad. So I cooked up that carcass, and strained it as I did the first one. Now I have a great big pot of broth. It needs to cool so I can skim off the fat. Tomorrow, when I get home from work I’ll start simmering it at low heat, to reduce it. When It gets to be about half of it’s volume it should be ideal for soup base. Or I could reduce it even farther, to maybe a pint, for gravy flavoring.
The day was interesting.
I was almost to my niece’s when a text popped up saying to eat before coming over because she didn’t have time to cook.
I thought well, it’s a little late for that. I was thinking about stopping at the gas station by her house, I think it is a WaWA? and get some chicken or something. Then I got a text saying never mind, there would be food after all.
So we ate, opened gifts, I was home by 4:30, and took a long nap.
Now I’m up and irking.
No dessert, which I normally don’t care about anyway, but I have a craving for chocolate. Had something besides the liquor stores been open I would have gotten something sweet on the way home, like a donut.
Everybody seemed to be happy with their gifts.
My son, who is incredibly hard to buy for, was very happy with his gifts.
Tomorrow everything goes back to normal.
I’m looking forward to it.
**Merry Christmas, everyone! **
I over ate and over drank. Work will suck tomorrow and I feel gross right now. But I’m going to bed stupid early right now to try to not feel like garbage tomorrow.
But it was a wonderful Christmas. The kiddos were spoiled. I got to spend time with family I don’t get to see often, and I did alright with gifts.
I hope everyone had a great Christmas!
Moooooom, RoxStar’s baby corral looks suspiciously like Nelson’s travel corral.
Guests have gone (most of us have to be back to irk tomorrow, but we had a good time. I’s tahred.
Blurf.
Back from Xmas time spent with my brother, I had to come back today since they headed out for the out-of-state nephew that couldn’t get time off.
It was a good visit, at least until Sunday when I caught some type of intestinal bug which kept me near the toilets most of the day (and a fair part of the night). Last night I was up from 2-7am having to go (and if I didn’t, my undergarments paid). So flying back today and driving about 120 miles from Nashville to N. Ali-bama was wearing. Am medicating and got some dinner into me without and reaction (yet). If I’m not feeling better tomorrow I’ll call on the Doctor.
Haven’t read all you Xmas messages, but I promise I will.
Take care all.
^ Guess what movie I chose to see today?
So why am I wearing Swampy’s clothes?
Christmas Cake recipe
Vodka Christmas Cake recipe
Once again this year, I’ve had requests for my Vodka Christmas Cake recipe so here goes. Please keep in your files as I am beginning to get tired of typing this up every year! (Made mine this morning!!!)
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup water
1 tsp. salt
1 cup brown sugar
Lemon juice
4 large eggs
Nuts
2 cups dried fruit
1 bottle Vodka
Sample a cup of Vodka to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the Vodka again to be sure it is of the highest quality then Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point, it is best to make sure the Vodka is still OK. Try another cup just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 eegs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick the fruit up off the floor, wash it and put it in the bowl a piece at a time trying to count it. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit getas stuck in the beaterers, just pry it loose with a drewscriver Sample the Vodka to test for tonsisticity. Next, sift 2 cups of salt, or something. Check the Vodka. Now shit shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don’t forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window. Finish the Vodka and wipe the counter with the cat.
…& to all a good night!
Work was busy. I’s tired right now.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
If you celebrate. “Happy Tuesday” if you don’t.
Red, you had me at “bourbon”
We had Christmas number three with a smaller group. It was fun, but I need a rest. When the kids all get together, they are an exuberant, raucous bunch of imps. I’m glad they have so much fun together.
Feel better WetOne.
Happy Christmas everyone!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work.
Happy Boxing Day! The day Canadians punch each other, and say “Sorry”. Also the IIHF World Juniors start today. For some bonus hockey.
Mel was a good friend - I pretty much slept like the dead, and I felt almost human when I woke. I expect it to be a very quiet day here in the office, but there’s work on my desk, so that’s good.
Red, my one sis referred to the corral as a baby crate! And Butters, RoxStar wore the jammies from you last night - they were excellent for crawling! In fact, we discovered yesterday that she doesn’t like wearing dresses because they affect her mobility. Once her daddy put her back in pants, she was happy as can be!
Thus beginneth my day. Once the caffeine kicks in, I should be functional.
Happy Wednesday!
Good Morning Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 40 Amurrkin out and clear (well, dark) with a predicted high of 64 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. The big news is OYKW shall return at some point late afternoon. YAY! When he gets here, we shall sup upon pancakes and snausages. I mentioned that to him when we talked last night and he agreed that would be good tonight. Plus easy to make. I shall betake myself to the Pubic Sto’ this mornin’ for provisions. Don’t need a lot, but, horror of horrors, am almost out of yogurt and 'nanners. Yogurt and 'nanner are my standard go to way to break fast. Other than that it shall be sloth.
MetalMouse hope you feel better this mornin’. Sick and away from home ain’t fun.
MOOOOOOM I like Roxstar’s baby jail.
OK, now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and alack, I must purtify and don appropriate goin’ about the public attire. Life is so hard!
Happy Hump Day/Boxin’ Day Y’all!
I forgot to share something I found out about our recently deceased friend, Jim. I think I may have mentioned that he’d volunteered at the hospital for years. He decided some months back that when he died, he would specify in his will that he would pay off the mortgage of another volunteer. He also left bequests to an Ohio organization for the deaf, as both of his parents were deaf, and to his church, and to an organization his wife had supported.
My sister had admired one of Jeanette’s necklaces, and Jim had planned with my mom to give it to my sis for Christmas this year - my sister was wearing it yesterday. Just a little bit of him with us in spirit… Even in death, he was a kind, generous soul.
Mooommm, that is such a sweet story. There are kind people out there.
As predicted, I feel gross today. Ugh, hangovers. I am not as young as I used to be, and can’t drink with my siblings like I used to. I shall overcome… and maybe take it a little easy today. Most of the company is taking the week off. Each department has to have at least one person in, and I’m my department’s person.
Happy Hump Day!
It’s cold outside, there was frost on the truck this morning.
It’s N.O.S. and 30 degrees now, supposed to warm up to 45.
I didn’t take Ripple to daycare today, both of us were too tired to get up and go. I woke at 4:30 and couldn’t fall back asleep, then crashed and slept until 8:30. He was still snoring away.
I still feel blurfy.
I have procured provisions. Got the makin’s for pancakes and snausages for tonight. I also bought some shrimpies and had ‘em steamed whilst shoppin’. Tomorrow night shall be shrimpies ‘n grits or shrimpies ‘n steak. Either way bacon wrapped spareguts will be vegetative matter. I shall allow OYKW to decide which he wants. Speakin’ of which, he is enroute with an entire homemade German chawklit cake. YUM! He says it is carefully wrapped and in a box on the front passenger floorboard. He also said that way, not only will it arrive intact, but that will keep him from reachin’ over and grabbin’ a handful or two on the way. Yes, I can picture him doin’ just that.
On Christmas, my cold turned into bronchitis.
And today I received a call from the clinic nurse, saying that the test results are in, and that the doctor I saw thinks I might have celiac disease.
Merry Christmas to me…
Poor health - the gift that keeps on giving.
Feel better soon, Midget.
My boss offered to take me to lunch today. I’ve never had a boss offer to take me to lunch…
How much improvement will there be if you avoid gluten?
I’m not sure yet. I have yet to be tested specifically for celiac disease.
{{{Midget}}}. Hope the Doctor can recommend a good treatment.
Amazing what 10 hours sleep can do to one’s outlook on life. Still a bit under the weather but I slept soundly without interruption and dinner stayed where it was supposed to, so I think I’m on the mend.
Got some gift cards for varous restaurants and a “Fitbit”, another attempt by my family to drag me into the 21st century of electronics. Based on prior history, this will probably not go any better…
Just you and him/her, Juliet? Is he/she in the habit of doing this? (Apologies, I have a suspicious mind. But seems to be a nice gesture.
FCM, glad to hear about Jim’s bequeaths; sometimes we forget there are a lot more good folks out there than we give credit too.
Sari, take care, hope you get to doing better.
Now need to get dressed and do a little activity.
