You could try to finds out. You could also have winged monkeys fly out of a major orifice. The latter would be less of a strain on your system.
I’m lucky; I don’t have any friends.
I have mentioned this in other threads but sometimes this time of year FC associates on their last day or so gift things to strangers. How I do not know but there is some way you can basically create an order that doesn’t exist and send things to random people. Or the order and bill is for 1 something-or-other and they get 3 or more. Because its done to random names pulled from a computer it makes it hard for Loss Prevention to track back. There is also some sort of blip in the software that does basically the same thing. I have known of people to get something and try to return it ------ it always turned to be a headache or with them basically being told to keep it.
On the shipping side we don’t get to do things like that. Our only last-day thing is to “lose” our name-badge in a pallet and then have security clock you out and escort you through a side door. I found 4 of the darn things this year. The one lady from Cincy sent us her badge in gaylords the last two years in a row. Just our way of saying Kilroy Was Here.
PS – loved TSO as always. The holidays may now end.
Helped set up the gym for tomorrow’s indoor soccer and ate a large (home-cooked) cheeburger for dinner, so appetite is back and my on-board sewage system is about 80% nominal (I know, TMI, but when you’ve had this miserable stuff it’s nice to get back to normal life…)
Sari, I have no idea what an immersion blender is good for, but as I always say, don’t look a gift blender in the mouth (or something like that).
Nut, a car full of chocolate, booze and cake? And you want to go to bed? Is there something wrong?
Spidey, if you can find anything to frolic to on the New Jersey beach in January, well, you’re a [del]better[/del] weirder fellow than I am.
Heading off to sleepage shortly, still not 100% over the bug and will be spending 6 hours at the gym with soccer stuff tomorrow. I predict a very sluggish Sunday.
Worked, came home. Went out for coffee, and got a haircut. Took a nap.
No one sent me an immersion blender.
We drop an acorn.
And congrats on the raise!
red, I skip downtown, too. “First Night” is alcohol free. If I’m gonna be cold, wet, and pestered by bums, I’m sure as heck not doing it sober.
Nut, I would drive pretty far for booze, cake, and chocolate.
Butters, iffn you’re dropping your wench, that means you didn’t have a good enough grip on the looting sack.
Spidey, I think “sinrise” works for you and your run club. “The wicked run, when no one is chasing them.” - Proverbs 28
My nephew was on the front page of today’s paper! He’s a senior in high school and the band is on it’s way to Florida to be part of the Outback Bowl. I think it used to be the Gator Bowl. So there was a picture of the band practising and he’s in it!
It’s his second bowl game actually. The school goes to one every three years. So if it’s a bowl year when you are a freshman, and you are in the band, you get another chance when you are a senior.
My sister and BIL are going too as supervising adults. Gee, what fun, herding high schoolers.
I have no idea what folks do around here for New Year’s Eve. Stay inside and watch tv. Until early the next morning, when the drunks hit the street.
Today we drove down to the other end of the Bay, and then had dinner at 'Beamette’s favorite restaurant. Tomorrow the gang ends over to SF for shenanigans. So far, so good.
Last night, I dreamed a Mumpfest. It was something…
At lunch the other day, my sister mentioned she wanted to do a road trip to meet **doggio **and swampy - apparently you’ve made a good FB impression. Anyway, I think that set off the dream. I was driving to Jawja with **doggio **and one of the female-type Mumpers - at least, that’s who it was supposed to be, tho I don’t recall who it was.
When we got there, we were greeted by a **bear **with a head full of curly hair! And we met OYKW, who was more laid-back and disinclined to be around us. At this point, I need to say that, swampy, if your remodel job was anything like what I saw in my dream, you got cheated!! Plus your dining room table was a big round piece of junk - like you’d see in a ratty old VFW hall.
Anyway, all kinds of people were wandering in and out - Mumpers and non - and Bernie was there, which is odd since she’s been gone over 7 years, but I guess since **swampy **met her, she had to show up. She was constantly being chased by a neighbor dog.
Kunal Nayyar was also there - you know, Raj from Big Bang - and he was a pilot, talking about the plane he flew to the party. And in the midst of all this, a friend of my mom called, and I was in a panic because Barbara never calls me, so I thought it was an emergency. I went outside to hear her better, but someone out there kept talking to me, so I never did find out why she called. Then I woke up.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I was a slug abed. ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out, foggy and cloudy with a predicted high of 66 and cloudy for the day with rain comin’ in again tonight. Nuttin’ much on the agenda for the day. We may go out for a burger and beer at the little place down the road for N.O.L. Or not. Neither of us is inclined to go into town for any reason, however.
MOOOOOOM quit peekin’ in my windows!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day. Rah.
It’s a N.O.S., not too chilly day outside.
I thought it was supposed to rain.
I slept until 8 this morning. You’d think I’d feel more rested and not so grumpy.
That was so thoughtful Spidey!
Ruble, are you suggesting that I just accept the ‘gift’?
MetalMouse, an inversion blender is instead of pouring stuff into a blender, you take a stick like thingie to that which needs to be blended. Kind of like using a hand mixer instead of a stand mixer.
They each have their pros and cons.
Congrats to your nephew Baker!
Nothing special for New Year’s here.
My partying days are behind me.
Actually, it might be fun to go to Fell’s Point for a New Year’s again, it was never too too crazy there. Kind of a long drive from here though.
Time to get up and at’ em, or maybe not yet.
When I was a kid I thought my mother was saying Up and Adam, always wondered why it wasn’t Up and Adam and Eve.
Congrats to your nephew Baker! What instrument does he play?
Yay, the renovators didn’t start until 9 AM today. Huh.
I do have to move out of this apartment sooner or later due to other factors, but I’m wondering if I can move as soon as possible.
sari, the phrase is actually u0 and at 'em, hence no need for Eve.
Up, caffeinating, vreakfasting, a load of sheets and towels in the wash, puppy crate cleaned and fixing to do KP. Playing in the studio and a Tar-Jay run are on the agenda today. Tomorrow, I will likely head up to my SIL’s for a visit. Such excitement!
Showered, dressed, and first load in the washer. I’m about to change the vacuum cleaner filters and do a bit of cleaning.
Some of you got FB messages from me about a mutual friend who may not be a friend after all or whose account may have been hijacked. I only accepted her friend request because I saw other Dopers on her list… dumb, perhaps, since she didn’t identify herself when I asked for her username. Maybe I’m overly paranoid…
OK, time for some suckage - the carpets are gross!!!
Just cleaned the vacuum cleaner, changed the filters’, pulled out hunks of leaves that got stuck in the hose. Then there was the hair wrapped around the rotating brush bar…
Afternoon. Cleaning the vacuum here’s always fun Moooooommm, I have near waist-length hair
Irk was… well, this is the traditional week here to not know what day it is, and that definitely applied. I was paired up with someone who wasn’t, in fact, there- I’m not 100% sure if the boss or the other co-irker was the one who messed up, but as I find the one wot wasn’t there extremely irksome, I didn’t really mind. She’s one of those people who has realised that if she doesn’t feel like irking and does nuttin’, someone else will do the stuff that needs doing, but has yet to realise that people aren’t just OK with that. Sometimes she’s OK, sometimes a cardboard cutout would be a better partner.
I will point out that most of my co-irkers there are perfectly fine, but many of them have an established partner they work with most weeks. As a relative newbie, I tend to be the one paired up with the proper newbies and the ones no-one else likes irking with.
I think my NYE plans are a jammies and a mug of cocoa by 8 and bed by 10. Maybe watch some wildlife documentaries, if I’m after some excitement. I know how to live.
Today was the first time I rocked Roxy to sleep. She was fussing and didn’t want to nap, but I got her to fall asleep while I held her, then my daughter was able to transfer her to bed. So all is quiet for a while.
Laundry is done, kitchen is mostly tidy. And I finally applied for Medicare. Now what? TV perhaps??
I’ve been trying to get some stuff done today.
It’s hard when Ripple wants to help and his idea of helping is to grab something and run off hoping I’ll chase him.
If I do something that I can sit still to do, like fold laundry or sort papers, he’ll snooze next to me. Let me get up to put something away and he is up and running.
I rearranged some of my clothes from the dresser to the chest of drawers.
I have way more space than I need.
My son put the drawer handles on upside down. I’ll fix them. It’s not like it’s a hard job.
Actually, I should have just put the chest together myself. I built my roll top desk from a kit, if I could do that, a chest of drawers should be easy.
Refinishing the desk is on the list of things to do. May or may not ever get done.
Time to start dinner. Tacos (of course) for him and I have no idea what to make for me. I took out ground beef, I may make chili, although meat loaf sounds good.
Afternoon all. Did not spend 6 hours in the gym with soccer; spent 7 hours instead. Legs are a bit tired and just to make it perfect, I got knocked off-balance and onto the floor by a kid 1/3 my size. Surprisingly I don’t seems to be bruised (I alway ache after a fall, but guess I landed right this time). More soccer tomorrow, but only 2 hours or so.
Sari, Ripple just wants you to get more exercise…and thanks for the explanation.
Nut, hope irksome work becomes less irky in the future; have the bosses figured out your colleague’s lack of dedication to her job yet?
Add my congratulations to your nephew, Cupcakes. That’ll be one for the scrapbook so that 40 years or so he can look back and say “I remember…”
Some New Years I am up at Midnight and others I turn in early; it’s not a big deal to me.
My nephew plays the trumpet. And very good he is at it too. When the schools have joint performances, and only a few from each school get selected, he’s always been in the special concerts, since he was a freshman. His trumpet is a fine instrument. the band leader said he was good enough he should have a prefessional quality trumpet, but they cost a LOT. So the folks said they’d foot half the bill if he did jobs to pay for the other half. We’re talking about a couple thousand dollars. He did it though. His Aunt Baker helped by being generous whwn it came to mowing her yard.
My NYE, aka my birthday, will be spent at home with snacks and the computer, counting up entries to two Death Pools. See, I two-time you all here by acting as the Merry Reaper on another board. So there!
