I have to say that this is pretty surreal. Here we all are, rooting on a guy that most of us do not know in “real life”, vicariously experiencing his recovery from a serious accident.

Prayers and well wishes are paying off. Santo was moved from ICU to a step-down unit Friday. He is definitely more alert. He responded to the nurse’s command to raise his hand several times.

I took the Italian coffee in for him to smell. I said this is from Butterscotch, your friend from the Straight Dope. His eyes flew wide open! I told him that all his doper friends send positive vibes and are anxious for him to get back on the boards.

Thanks again for your marvelous support. His wall is covered in cards from well-wishers all over the world!
