Why is Kevin Spacey hosting? What’s he done of interest, aside from getting “jumped” in Regents Park (or wherever it was in London)?
I found the opening boring. I don’t think this is going to be good. Spacey is great in drama but I don’t know if he can pull off comedy.
Please send Finesse Mitchell home. He really sucks. And is it possible to have Black cast members who do not dress in drag at every opportunity? (Finesse and Keenan)
If I never see CAROL again, I will be happy. Absolutely loved the Smigel cartoon. Funniest yet, especially with the deer, and the ending with the levy.
Pretty horrible so far, but the Samberg skit made me laugh. It would have been nice if Spacey had memorized his lines, though… Samberg gets a pass because he had to say all of the things in the rebus.
Carol sucks… but so does everything Sanz does, except for Aaron Neville.
Ugh, this is horrible. Spacey was hilarious the last time he hosted, one of the few episodes I enjoyed, but this time… just why? I’m cringing here watching him.
He plays Lex Luthor in Superman Returns, which will easily be one of the biggest movies of the year. And he’s quite funny – he was in a great sketch a few years ago, playing Christopher Walken auditioning for the part of Han Solo in the first Star Wars movie.
DAMN, is Nelly Furtado sexy! I actually liked the song she did with Timbaland, and I usually don’t care for pop-R&B-hip-hop collaborations like that.
The one good bit was the Neil Young parody. At the very end. With the beginning - on my station at least - cut off by a commercial.
I assume this was Tina Fey’s last show, since she’s doing a sitcom next fall. Although they did that (awful, unfunny, channel-flipping) salute to her, I’m surprised they didn’t say it specifically.
What the hell was up with the Usual Suspects bit? Kinda funny but really dated. Betcha next week they take on the Macarena. Then they’ll do a totally wicked bit at Vanilla Ice’s expense.
I bet it was written by whoever was responsible for that out-of-left-field Glengarry Glen Ross parody with Santa’s elves in the workshop, in the Alec Baldwin episode earlier this season.
It wasn’t THAT bad an episode. There have been worse. The A-Holes are starting to grow on me.
“I want one of your donuts.”
And I kind of liked the time-travelling Falconers.
Carol, however, must die.
And Kevin Spacey can be absolutely hilarious. He had hosted SNL a couple of times before and knocked it out of the park. His ‘Star Wars audition’ skit is a classic. Look it up on the internet if you haven’t seen it. Christopher Walken auditioning for Han Solo is a classic. Walter Matthau as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jack Lemon as Chewbacca, all played to perfection by Spacey.
Nelly Furtado - she did songs like “I’m Like A Bird” and “Turn Out The Light” a few years ago, nice alternative/r&b crossover. Last night, though, she sucked. Wasn’t she like the anti-Britney, free spirit female artist when she came out a few years back? And now she’s doing cut-rate Britney impersonations. That was really a waste of time.
If Dratch is leaving, that’s too bad. She’s one of the rare consistently funny performers on the show.
Exactly who does Sanz have pictures of to remain on the show? Come on, Lorne, we’d forgive you for whatever it is he has evidence of you doing if you steel-toed his ass off the show. I think Michaels sometimes has this “I know humor better than any of you do” attitude and will stick with a performer even though he/she is universally panned. (Explain to me how Sanz and that woman who did the sorority girl in the 90s stayed on for multiple seasons.)
Spacey’s reactions to the A*Holes were the high point of the episode for me. In a show known for over-the-top, self-indulgent cheap laughs, watching Spacey do his slow burn was highly refreshing.
The A-Holes crack me up - I always get a kick out of them. I still think my favorite was their last sketch where they went to the travel agency:
“I wanna go to Hogwarts.”
Still, I thought it was kind of a lackluster episode, although I love Kevin Spacey. I really wish that last week’s show had been the season finale - it would have been a high note to go out on.
And Rachel is leaving with Tina. Which begs the question - who’s the new headwriter? I’m guessing Seth Myers. And WHO will be doing Weekend Update? If they let Horatio have the desk back after his disasterous stint in the fall, I’ll have no trouble believing that everyone in that studio is officially on crack.
