Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 75 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse. From the looks of things on the radar, this should be happenin’ in a couple of hours. We shall see. No biggie plans today as we were all about bein’ responsible adults yestiddy. Thus sloth, followed by laziness, followed by more sloth is the order of the day. Sup shall be beef enchiladas, refried beans, and rice. OLÈ! Fartfest to follow.
I can’t stand Russian dolls. They’re so full of themselves.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
OK, who’s being affected by this gas pipeline insanity? Our two vehicles were virtually full, so we should be OK since we drive so little, but I was going to fill the gas cans for our mowers. I saw on a local website that there’s no gas to be had in this county. People are losing their collective minds. Then again, a lot of folks around here commute to DC - over 50 miles one way. Things are gonna be interesting if they don’t resolve this pipeline issue soon.
And it affirms what I’ve been saying forever - you can’t rely on computers! You need a backup plan. Things break and if the part that controls everything breaks and you have no alternative, you’re screwed. So for now, many on the east coast are screwed. And what’s maddening - once things are back up and running, everyone will forget till the next time.
< deep cleansing breath >
I get Roxy today. HVAC guys are coming today to do the semi-annual service/inspection. FCD has a meeting this afternoon and he insists on driving there. He did a practice run last night just to check. I can’t persuade him otherwise. So that’s the day ahead.
Mornin’ everyone. I’m feeling good enough to work, so it’s back to the grindstone today.
I’m not affected by the pipeline gas prices, yet, but on the other hand, we were ALREADY paying over three dollars a gallon out here. The first news reports about the eastern gas problem were that folks were going to have to pay $2.00 a gallon. I wish that’s all we had to pay out here. Today the price of a gallon of regular is at $3.40; I run supreme in my rig, so I’ll be closer to $3.70. It’s ridiculous. And, while I can understand the stress about actually having gas or fuel availability, running the prices up to stratospheric levels is insane too.
Thank goodness I don’t have to travel down to Olympia regularly because that would get super expensive quickly for me.
Three more work days to get through (including today). Then it’s weekend time.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s a mixed bag of weather out there. Weather app says “Cloudy fucking bullshit” and promises me 14C/57F up to 15C/59F, mostly cloudy. That will explain the sunshine and showers then.
metalmouse congrats on the footie recognition! It’s good to have the sacrifices noted
Nettie great news on the financial cushion and the lack of debt, it’s a great weight off your mind while you focus on other things.
Dicey our student reception area (back in the days of on-campus teaching) had a big notice on the door with our opening hours. Monday to Friday. Students would still ask if they could drop off or collect stuff at the weekends.
Nothing exciting happening here, exam preparation continues and the student emails get more and more fractious. They are struggling with the concept of “no”.
Doggio my friend drove his expensive car into a tree. Now he know how his Mercedes bends.
There is a tiger wandering around the area today, an honest to goodness tiger. Apparently, some guy was pulled over for driving it about in his car and by the time the police got to said car, the tiger was gone. Dang. Glad I’m leaving for the northern Midwest in a couple of days. In that same vein, did you all know that there are armadillos in Missouri? I just learned this a couple of years ago and saw my first one today, squashed on the side of the road.
This morning is proving to be decidedly weird. But it’s great to have my sister around. I missed her a lot. It’s sunny-ish so far, looks to be around 70F, which will be nice. I’m going to try to get in a revenge run in a while between meetings.
swampy, you just made me snort laugh. Nasal irrigation with coffee is remarkably effective.
Nellie, I feel you about the work ethic. Every time I take time off - doesn’t matter if it’s a day or a week - unless I go somewhere I’m physically incapable of doing yardwork or extensive housework (like a hotel), I wind up cleaning, cooking and pulling weeds. Makes me nuts.
Good morning! I’m going to the gym this morning. This afternoon, my sister is going to call, which will mean take up most of the afternoon. We can have short conversations, but only with other people. I might walk to Targét to buy a few things. Such is life in retirement. When I miss my students, I go to a mirror and look at my pupils.
Dice, you’re not vaccinated yet? Good luck at the specialist’s!
FCM, I’M not being affected by my the pipeline insanity.
Is that ‘the tiger was gone, leaving just a strangely hairy stripy driver?’
Glad your footbally skills are getting appreciated Metalmouse
Assorted yays, hugs trouts etc to the rest of you- I did read, just didn’t retain.
Looks like I’m not going to be the last Mumper to get stabbed- I got an appointment for tomorrow, even though officially they’re not down to my age group yet. I got an invite and I wasn’t going to argue.
Morning all. Slept until 8am (which was only fair as I stayed up until after midnight) and have rescued the newspaper from outdoors. No soccer practice today, so may make a braunsweiger run up north if I feel like it. Need to shred a lot of paper so the garbage can go out tonight for the Thursday pickup.
FCM, I usually gas up every 3-4 weeks so I haven’t been paying attention to the gas prices around here, they have been going up steadily the past few months, but only a few cents a gallon. Hope you can score some mower fuel.
talky, hopefully the tiger gets corralled soon…that’s a weird story that gets weirder by the moment…maybe they need to get that “Tiger King” guy over there…
nellie, enjoy your call. With my brother, it’s either he feels like talking and we have a great conversation or it’s mostly grunts at his end. Such is life.
I keep seeing headlines on news sites saying “Gas headed for $2/gallon!!!”
Cry me a river. Gas prices in Southern California have been hovering around $3.82/gal for months. I feel for those Mumpers that are having problems with the shortage, but the rest of those people…
I really need to hit the brewery this evening. It might dial up my empathy. Or not.
In our county, gas has been in the 2.75-2.89 range of late. I didn’t bother going this morning after all. Maybe after Roxy goes home?
The HVAC guy is en route. FCD has arrived at his meeting site. Daughter should be leaving school in about 30 minutes to claim her spawn. It’s still a chilly, dreary day. And so it goes…
I gym-ed. It was one of those days where the only good thing about being there was that it felt so good when it stopped. When I got back, my favorite dog in the complex was in our little dog park. She’s a bullypit and the sweetest, friendliest, gentlest dog around. I told her I’d go get her some treats (Pupcorn, mostly air but dogs love 'em.), and she waited patiently at the fence until I returned.
I’m awaiting sister’s call. MetalMouse, maybe I should propose we take up the study of your brother’s language of Grunt. The call would sure be a lot shorter.
Yeah, gas is actually over four bucks a gallon at many of the stations here. I am just a little southeast of Seattle. And, we’ve been paying anywhere from 3.50 and up for many months too. I wouldn’t mind two bucks a gallon at all.
So I started out in Smalls, then they moved me to Irregs. I had to deal with somebody’s
oily nut sack. Also, it’s May 12th, and it’s 48 degrees outside. Brrrr.
me. A bunch of stations around here are out of gas, and I was running low, so I got stuck with $3.35 premium.
“As of Wednesday morning, 72 percent of gas stations in metro Raleigh do not have fuel, according to a Gas Buddy analyst.”
I pulled a double shift at the Pirelli factory. Now I’m tired.
Every time I drink hoppy beer, IPA lot.
“Friends, Russians, countrymen, Lenin me your ear!”
Afternoon all. Did my braunsweiger run (now stocked up until 19 June) and watched soccer ( One-Nil to the Arsenal ) am now contemplating dinner and starting the second load of laundry. Still need to get the garbage out tonight but as I am enjoying a clothing-optional moment, we’ll do that later lest the neighbors be scandalized…
Gas is about 2.79 for regular here, supposedly we don’t have a shortage but people apnic-buying is probably driving the price up. I have a half-tank left, that’s get me through to near Memorial Day.
Guess I’d better get on the laundry and fix a couple of BLT’s, so all y’all take care.
nellie, SIL collects teapots. I have a couple, but living in a small space like I do, I have to limit myself to two that I actually use. We were more worried about the time involved. 3.5 hours there, likely an hour in the museum and 3.5 hours back. And that’s if we don’t dilly dally! (we usually do, which is why we have fun and see interesting things when we ramble).
Moooooom, so far, I’m not affected by the gas shortage. Of course, I filled up Friday and don’t have a lawn mower or anything else except the bike (I haven’t ridden much this year yet and at ~75 mpg, no worries). One of my cow-orkers drives from Manchester, TN (halfway to Chattanooga from here) and has been having to get gas when he gets to Smyrna because the stations are out down there.
Irked, got home a little late and did the normal week night stuff. I’m getting impatient with my boss at the moment. She’s smart, techy and fairly nice, but as a supervisor, she makes a hell of an analyst. She’s not a great people manager and she tends to make my job harder than what it should be. At this point, I’ll wait for her to move up or move out.
I got two chubs of Braunschweiger last time I went to Cash & Carry (or whatever they’re called now). I put one in the freezer until we’re ready for more.
I pulled the bread machine pizza dough out of the freezer and we had pizza for supper. It was yum. Chillage has ensued since.
I have Roxy tomorrow, but not on Firday, so I should be able to finish patching the drywall and maybe start slapping paint on various surfaces this weekend. We’re threatened with rain, so why not?
