nice bbq we have going here about … I’m told its spreading like a wildfire
Plumbers are here.
Rain after planting is good.
{ briefly forgot MMP “topic” }
{ remembered }
{ mutters under breath }
Stay safe, shady and, uh … well done.
Decided a $5 tray of sushi and some soup sounded good.
Also decided the wings from last night were too good not to be repeated.
Good thing the two places are catty-corner from each other!
The I-30 DeSoto bridge (hey, he crossed the Mississippi, and it might have been in what would become Arkansas) has a broken beam. Vehicular traffic has been routed to highway 55, which Mama Plant drove to visit her parents in Dyersburg, TN in the 1960s, and river traffic has been stopped lest the bridge fall onto a barge boat.
I was seeing a girl in Tennesse a long time ago, and drove across the bridge many times. Yes, males are stupid. Once at 2:00 AM, returning to Arkansas, I came onto a curve where one can see the back of signs on the other side of I-30. “HOLY SH-T, I AM ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE FREEWAY!” That was an anxious moment.
I bought Mrs. Plant (v.2.0) a cell phone for her drive from New Hampshire to Arkansas. She freaked out on approaching the I-30 bridge spanning the Mississippi. “Is it safe to cross?!?!”
Apparently they have no rivers in New England, just large creeks.
Looks like my spell checker isn’t working on the SDMB. G-d hates me, so I should not be surprised.
Could you describe this parcel a bit more? A sack of nuts and bolts?
Watch out for spitting bacon grease. ouch!
$280 later… We have a new sink!
The metal drain pipe was seized, so they had to use a torch on it. The old faucet basically fell apart. Shut-off valves are installed. I’m glad I didn’t attempt this myself.
The brother and sister plumbing team are cat people. The sister has at least eight cats (she mentioned a barn), and the brother has four. Goo slept through most of it, but Tonka went back to ‘watch’ with his blind eyes.
And I’ve just finished a big bowl of tom kha gai. (I put in extra red pepper flakes.)
Dang! I’ve crossed that bridge a few times myself. When I go to Houston, I usually take I55 down (it adds a few miles) because by the time I get onto US59, it’s dark and between the deer and the jogs, I’m afraid that I’ll wind up somewhere in BF Texas instead of Houston or having Bambi in my passenger seat. On the way home, I come up through Arkansas.
Hades Annex just gets less professional and more annoying as time goes on. Loving the exit plan at this point (date still TBD). If I’m feeling more mature on departure day than I am right now, I might even refrain from a stereo one-finger salute over the shoulders as I walk out the door for the final time. ![]()
Trying to convince myself to be a sensible adult and not start playing with the lovely new phone tonight, but save it for the weekend. Not sure how that’s going :).
DH and I feed the car E85, which is right about $3/gal right now in the Sacramento area. According to ABC10, the LOWEST price for actual gas here is $3.54 at one Costco location.
Frozen pizza currently baking. Kroger’s store-brand pizzas are pretty decent for frozen pizza. I still think they’re a bit skimpy on the toppings, but IMO all frozen pizzas are.
Are their names Alf and Ralph?
Ben the Plumber. But I like the was you think.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to to sort?
A plastic bag of oiled 1" bolts, in a cardboard box, both of which broke, spilling nuts all over the belt. And a joy to re tape, when you have a 116lbs dresser trying to crush it against a 78lbs. lawnmower.
Good luck on the exit.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 52 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 75 and cloudy. We could get some more rain. Or not. TWPTB are all willy-nilly today. I have visions of yahd mowage today, but don’t know if that will happen. Right now ‘tis very wet out as it rained a lot yestiddy, into the night even. If’n we don’t get any rain betwixt now and noon, maybe this can happen durin’ the afternoon. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit.
My friend fell into an upholstery machine. He’s fully recovered now.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Thursday Y’all!
This punny thread is frying my brain. I wanted to share a joke about amnesia, but I forgot how it goes…
SIL will deliver the RoxStar in a couple of hours. I hope she will entertain herself a bit in the basement so I can clean up and organize somewhat down there in preparation for painting. I need to move some things into my studio or one of the 2 closets, lest I end up tripping over everything. Plus I need to minimize what’s down there to make it as easy as possible on the carpet tile installers. The worst part will be getting up the big blue carpet remnant because of the heavy piece of furniture sitting on it. I may have to leave that for them - we shall see.
Now that the pipeline is back up and running, we’ll see how long it takes for the idiots to settle down. I’m glad I didn’t fill the gas cans - someone who needed to go to work needed the gas more than I did. If the grass gets long, there’s always the battery-powered weed whacker - it would be a tedious way to “mow” but it would keep things somewhat under control. Anyway, it’s not an issue now.
After I take Roxy to the playground to pass back to her mom, I’ll run by Food Lion - Diet Coke is on sale and I also need some salad stuff. Plus I want to get some cash at the credit union - local strawberries are at the Amish markets and they don’t take plastic! FCD took the last of my cash yesterday to get a haircut. I don’t use real money very often, but sometimes, that’s what you need. Kinda like a quarter for a cart at Aldi!
And so begins the day. Happy Thursday!!
Lord, honey, I am TAH-RED! I had a day filled with interruptions which really hampered my ability to get anything done. For example, I started working on something yesterday morning which should have taken 45 minutes, tops. Because of the interruptions and the work associated with those interruptions, I did not finish the said project until after 3:00 p.m. I started it at 6:00 a.m.
I did treat myself to an adult beverage last night. The husband had gone to Total Wine to get my favorite rum and came home with both favorite and another kind of rum. I had one drink, along with dinner.
I was so tired that I went to bed at 8:30 last night and when my alarm went of at 3:30 this morning I kept hitting snooze. I finally forced myself out of bed at 4:10 but all I want to do is sleep. Good grief!
Glad to hear the pipeline is back up and running, but I wonder how many months the so-called shortage will continue because these companies love a good crisis that can be used to jack up prices. They’re going to claim the shutdown will have caused them to fall behind and it will take MONTHS to catch up. In the meantime, you all will pay higher prices.
We deal with this crap (not the hack obviously), all the time here in the PNW. We have a refinery and every six months there is some “reason” they have to shut down or limit production or do ANYTHING that causes prices to rise. Sometimes the wind blew south instead of north, sometimes the storm in the Gulf of Mexico which has no impact on the PNW caused their purple widget to lock so now the orange pipe is flummoxed. At any rate, you get the gist. Anything for a buck and a profit.
Just two more workdays to get through! I can do this! I will do this!
I hope you can get your chores done, FCM. You remain so incredibly busy all the time!
Taters - I’m really not all that busy - I just mention the busy stuff I do. I gloss over the times I spend several hours in front of the TV, just crocheting and chilling.
I do that a lot!
Related to prices that go up and stay up - I’m curious to see what happens to lumber and other wood products. We don’t need anything right now, but you never know what’s ahead. It’s like the last time gas prices shot way up - the price of everything rose, and they didn’t come back down much after gas got cheaper again. I have no problem with businesses making a profit - that’s why people start businesses - but at what point does it go from profit to gouging??
Like we mere mortals can do anything about it…
Morning all. Actually got up and did some stuff today, like folding u’wear and hanging up shirts and putting stuff away. Also started another load of clothes (misc. cold water stuff) and will wash the house blankets later.
Heading for another 70F day with no rain in site. Girl’s soccer practice tonight, need to remember to take the maps to the field we’re playing at (we’re on the road to a different AYSO region, fortunately it is only 8-10 miles away). I hand-draw maps, not a pretty as Google maps but they get the folks there.
Taters, nothing wrong with sleeping in, especially after a hard day.
FCM, guess I’m still stuck in the past, I still use cash for most routine transactions, used to have a debit card but gave it up.
doggio, sounds like your nuts were caught in a hard place…
Seanette, I look forward to the day when things are right and you can tell us about giving the Hades Annex the old Heave-ho. But only when it is right for you.
BBBoo, don’t have to worry about spitting bacon grease, I buy those ‘pre-cooked’ packages so just 30 seconds or so in the microwave…
shady, be safe from the fire.
OK, sounds like the washer has stopped, so need to gather up the blankets and put the other stuff in the dryer. Ain’t responsible living fun?
I did the weekly shopping last night and My God, the line for gas at Sam’s was unreal. I’m glad I filled up the car last week. The boys are in the milk, and the rabbit is in the kale. I picked up a parsley plant to go in the empty spot in the garden box, so by this time next month, the rabbit should be high on the hog with parsley treats.
Mrs Magill had round two of treatment two yesterday, so there was much lying around on the couch yesterday afternoon. Her labs came back, too. She was very proud of her “report card”. Her WBC, platelet, and hemoglobin counts were about 50% of normal. A far cry from the 5-10% they were a couple of weeks ago.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s been cloudy, grey and showery all day. Weather app summarises this as “This weather is similar to a monkey fucking a football. It’s a bit fucked up” and promises me 14C/57F all day, mostly cloudy with showers nearby. That sounds about right on all counts.
Apparently the Cambridges were visiting my town today, much apathy ensued from here. The local newspaper’s farcebook feed was full of people not interested in their visit but more concerned about the fact they’d seen a couple of black SUVs with police outriders. The black SUV would have been a novelty, the motorcycle police far less so.
I’ve spent almost 2hrs today sitting through a training session for something I don’t do currently, haven’t done for many years and hope never to do again…but the boss said we must attend, so we did. Now I feel like my head’s going to explode and I’d really like to go and lie down in a dark room for a while.
Oh well, I’ll settle for a cuppa and an exercise session instead.
Good news on Mrs Magill, I hope the recovery continues for her and the numbers keep getting better!
The usual work today. Still waiting for the playoff schedule…[quote=“swampbear, post:93, topic:941738”]
My friend fell into an upholstery machine. He’s fully recovered now.

I hear the experience left him off his rocker.
