Great, Long time no speak, sorry, been busy with the puppy and my office got moved, so no privacy at work to post here.
Im freaking out, I screwed my budget up, and now I need to find a roommate. I like my apartment, its not a shithole, so I dont want to lose it. but, i cant afford the 1340 by myself anymore. I dont liek roomies, and dont know what to do.

Wow, quite the variance on answers. I know I said I dont like roomies, but thats mainly because I have had some bad experiences with them.
What I really want to know is how to find a good roommate? No drugs, smoking, wild parties, pays their half, cleans their half. You know, the usual.

I was hoping to maybe find some help from someone on here that is a PDX local? Sadly Im pretty low on friends, but the ones I have are awesome, but not looking for places to live.
Is craigs list even safe?
I think the big irony is my girlfriend is looking for a roomie too, but, we are a few years to early to officially move in together.
I did, and I don’t worry about it one bit considering all the money we’re both saving on rent. I also thought about marrying her to lower my car insurance rates, but she doesn’t have a car so there’s not much in it for her. Ain’t the free market great?
I think we could do it, we do essentially live together now, but still maintain our own places. But there are other issues that for the meantime means we must have separate addresses.

Are you CERTIAN that this is the next most logical step for you? Taking on a roommate is a big decision and is not one to be made lightly.
For instance, is there a way for you to eat out less/cut coupons/etc to lower your grocery bill? Have you increased the deductables on your insurance to lower your payments? Have you cancelled the cable/gym memberships/blockbuster movie club/etc.? Have you asked for a raise or applied for better paying jobs with no luck? Have you been to MSN money and simpledollar.com and all the other sites with ideas of how to make more money and save the money you are already making? If your lease will be up soon could you move to a cheaper apartment elsewhere?
Make sure you exhaust all of your options before you start inviting strangers to live in your home.
You could advertise for a short term roommate, maybe 1-6 months. Then you can catch up on your bills, and you won’t have to share space indefinitely. I had med students on rotation staying in my extra room for a while, they were wonderful. very clean and polite, paid in full, and spent all their time either at the hospital or studying for exams.
