Scrolling stops before the end

This may be a browser issue Firefox) rather than the board software. I typically read the posts in a thread by using the scroll wheel. Starting about a week ago, intermittently a few posts from the last one, anywhere from two to a dozen, the scrolling stops above the last one. I can still scroll up, but down stops at the same spot. Exiting the thread then getting back in lets me continue on down. Anyone else seeing this?

Yes, I had that happen a few times lately, too (Chrome on Windows 11). Reloading the page fixes the issue, but it’s a bit annoying.

Same for me. For the past (at least) few months, I’ve had an issue where some posts don’t actually show up until I’ve scrolled down far enough that the entire post would be on screen, then it appears. IOW, as I scroll through a thread, I’ll have a blank area where a post should be, then it’ll suddenly appear once I’ve scrolled far enough.

This issue brought up in this thread is new, but I assumed it was related. Like the post was waiting until I scrolled far enough, but being at the bottom of the page, I couldn’t.
I also kinda ignored it since I assumed it was another issue with the Vincent skin.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I also use Vincent.

I read one hell of a lot of threads. I’ve never seen this behavior. Then again, I don’t use Vincent. I suspect that some of these themes are much buggier and limited than others.

If you have a slowdown or temporary breakdown in your internet connection, scrolling can result in a blank area where the next posts would appear once they’ve been retrieved. At least on the themes I’ve used (SD Light and now Discourse-classic) when that occurs the browser+theme displays an animated placeholder that looks loosely like an out-of-focus post trying to come into focus.

Perhaps Vincent doesn’t have that placeholder and just leaves the space blank when there’s a delay in server response.

Nope, Vincent normally behaves the same. And in the cases when I had it happen in the last few days, my connection was rock solid, and one reload immediately fixed the problem, so it rather looks like a bug in the Vincent skin or the general board software. Or maybe a wonky, unresponsive server.

I’ve experienced this as well with Firefox.

I have the same issue as described by the OP.

I also did like @Joey_P and ignored it for the same reason – I figured another issue with the Vincent skin.

Laptop, Win 11, Firefox most current version and Vincent.

It is another annoyance to have to reload a thread just to get the rest of the posts.

It doesn’t happen with other themes? Why is everyone on Vincent… is it special for some reason?

It’s the dark theme.

There’s a “Dark” and a “Straight Dope Dark” too. I’m using Dark and scrolling seems to work OK.

It’s the dark theme that I prefer.

Fair enough.

It looks like that theme is marked Broken and the thread for it is closed. Maybe abandoned? Discourse Vincent theme - Theme - Discourse Meta

The code for it also looks like it was archived in May of this year. It looks like it’s no longer maintained :frowning:

It’s the one most easy for my eyes and aesthetically pleasing, that’s the only reason I use it.

Straight Dope Light for me so that ain’t it.

Discourse-classic for me and it’s been going on for months.
Laptop, Win 10, Opera most current version.
