SDMB Big League Fantasy Football 2017

Well, as it turned out, it didn’t cost you as much as i expected. Kizer ended up with pretty good numbers too, and handily beat his projections.

Well, that was my worst start ever. I’m in dead last, although it looks like I’ll pick up my first win. Clearly I can’t leave the country during football season any more.

Fixed that for you.

Can I make a recommendation for next year? Smaller benches. The waiver wire is half the fun of FF, but I feel like the past couple years there have been fewer diamonds in the rough available. Now it’s just waiting for someone to get injured and blow half your budget on the backup’s backup. Adding another 20 or 40 players to the wire would make things a lot more interesting.

…and it will make the draft faster!

Crazy ending last night. I went into the lead, I believe, 99.35-98.60 after the game tying 40 yard field goal by Washington. Kansas City then drove and kicked the go ahead field goal which affected nothing about our score. Not realizing there could still be time for Washington to run more play, I shut the game off. I notice shortly after on Reddit people freaking about Chris Thompson unfairly being charged with a lost fumble on the game’s final play which KC returned for a touchdown. I see not only has the team I’m playing lost 2 points from that, I also lost between 1 and 2 points, and the margin of my win is less than 2. I felt sick and couldn’t bring myself to see the play for myself for some time. I was seeing talk of Cousins being charged with a fumble in some places, Crowder being involved, maybe Crowder did or didn’t fumble, all very confusing for someone who didn’t watch. The only thing clear was there seemed to be near consensus about what happened to Thompson how he never had possession of the ball to begin with.

Here’s the play. Redskins vs. Chiefs | NFL Week 4 Game Highlights - YouTube Thompson, on the team I was playing against, scored -2 being charged with the lost fumble. On my side, Crowder was scored as having a reception from Cousins that went for negative-7 yards as well as a fumble, which sums up to -1.55. Say what? So it looks like if Thompson’s going to receive a stat correction, I should be owed that as well and I don’t have to worry about a swing in the result (assuming no other stat correction issues). Speaking of which, Kansas City covered the spread thanks to that meaningless touchdown and also the o/u then went to the over. I know Thompson was started in over twice as many yahoo leagues as Crowder but it’s still weird that’s where all the avalanche of outrage was focused and by comparison I only saw a couple folks point out the scoring given to Crowder seemed erroneous, both yardage wise and calling his backwards pass a fumble.

What a crazy play. I actually won in the HHM league by 2 points on the strength of that KC TD. I bet a lot of fantasy upsets were made one way or the other on that play.

And yeah it’s not really fair to charge Thompson with that fumble - you need possession at some point to fumble, right? I actually won a game by 1.8 points or so where I started Thompson, so disaster narrowly averted there for me too.

Comment quoted from He Hate Me thread I erroneously posted this in.

:smack: I have a feeling I’m wrong about how Crowder was scored on that play, aren’t I. Rotoworld didn’t write a blurb on him until the morning so I bet their writers weren’t sure why he was given negative yardage on that play either. I bet FF players with a lot of experience have been in these situations before with end of game laterals and probably know the rules on how yardage is recorded better than most NFL fans.

So, Varlos still seems MIA. I am playing him this week and his team needs many tweaks just to be able to field an actual roster.

Senor Beef, my suggestions for my opponent’s roster moves, determined with the help of Yahoo, a third party FFL site and hopefully very little of my actual opinion,

QB-Cam
WR-Tavon Austin
WR-JWilliams–>Brice Butler
WR Cincy D–> Trent Taylor
RB Gurley
RB DMartin
TE JCook
Flex DAllen
K McManus–> JMeyers
D Seattle

Merely my take on this, I’m not sure how our league should address this matter

–> being actual waiver wire moves

I’m not thrilled with the idea of making permanent drops on his roster, since that’s a much bigger decision than just setting a lineup. I’m not sure if he’ll be back soon or if he’ll be gone all season. He has a player on IR who won’t be coming back this year, so that seems like an easy one to replace, but otherwise I don’t really want to drop anyone. I don’t want to drop the Cincy D specifically because Seattle is on bye next week which just postpones the problem - there often aren’t startable defenses on our waiver wire. Maybe I could swap out his kicker for someone similarly rated.

I appreciate you being proactive about this - it’s bad for the league for a team to be unmanaged because the free wins could end up deciding playoff spots down the road, so we can’t leave a team unattended. I’ll try to make a good faith effort to field a viable team for him with only necessary disruption in his roster.

Ah, didn’t realize Mathews would be out more than a month, I guess that makes him droppable too in a pinch.

I dropped Matthews and Joe Williams (IR) and added Trent Taylor and Josh Bellamy. Butler has scored more points in recent weeks, but he’s only getting 2 targets a game, so his production seems flukey (yahoo projections agree) whereas Bellamy is getting more targets and may play a bigger role in Chicago if Trubisky opens up the passing offense there. I’ll deal with kicker later in the week when some kickers come off waivers. He’ll field a viable team this week.

Cincy and Seattle both have a bye that week.

Commish, also, those players of Varlos’s you dropped didn’t enter into the waivers system. If they were both out for the season it wouldn’t matter but Matthews isn’t.

Bump. I’m curious is there an explanation why a day after Matthews was dropped I saw the FA tag by his name in the queue and if a commissioner has control over this? I was just pointing it out in case someone picked him up before Sunday’s games.

I can’t manage Varlos’ roster through normal channels, I can only use the roster editing function to add/drop/change his roster. In this case, I was trying to field a viable team for him for competitive reasons and needed more roster spaces - I figured Jordan Matthews being out for at least a month made him droppable. But since I’m not using the normal drop process, it didn’t go to waivers like it would under normal circumstances. I didn’t consider this until you pointed it out. No one grabbed Matthews since then, so he’ll get rolled into this week’s normal waivers, where people can make bids on him. In the future, if I have to do a drop like that, I’ll do it just before the start of Sunday’s games so that the dropped player gets put into the normal Sunday-Tuesday waiver system.

Sounds good. Thanks.

Varlos apparently isn’t MIA, as he made changes to his lineup in the dynasty league this week (or at least someone did).

Well, Odell’s down, probably for the rest of the season. Guess I better start preparing for next season.

Well, it’s happening to me again this season. I keep losing games despite running up decent scores.

This week, i scored 109 points and lost. Of the nine other games in our league this week, seven of them were won by scores lower than mine, and three games were won with scores below 100.

Same thing on the league table. I’m at 2-3, which puts me in 11th place overall. Of the ten people ahead of me, only three have actually scored more points. But i’ve had more points scored against me than all but one team in the league.

Yes, i’m bitter. Why do you ask?

On a slightly different note, having lost a few key players, SenorBeef is now competing with his beloved Browns to see who can go the longest without winning a game.
