Why is it so damn’ difficult to stay connected to this message board? Every third or fourth time I change pages, the computer tells me it can’t connect. I can have five tabs open, and be changing pages - or even websites - at will in four of them, but in the fifth one I have to hit retry as many as twenty times before I can actually connect to the next page of the Dope, or post what I have to say. This is especially infuriating when I’m trying to edit a post, which for some reason has to be done within five minutes of the initial posting time (not the time of the last edit), and I have to spend 15 minutes clicking on Retry.

I’ve had problems like this too. It’s getting all to frequent.
Similarly, I and others have complained here in ATMB about having to enter our user name and password multiple times before actually getting logged in. Although I wasn’t the only one bringing up this problem, the knee-jerk answer was: “Must be a problem with your browser settings.”
I think the hamsters are just getting old.
FWIW - sometimes it’s slow for me - and doesn’t seem to respond - worse than average for sites on the web, but probably no worse than bottom 20% of websites.
But - I have never had the problem with having to enter password more than once (unless I clear cookies - which of course would require it).
It’s very common for me to click on a Dope thread, open a new tab, and browse a few other sites effortlessly, while still waiting for the Dope to load. Sometimes, if the Dope thread is hanging, I’ll stop and reload, and boom, it’s fine.
I frequently do that; if it is taking more than 15 seconds or so to load, I click the red x and then hit the link again, most of the time it comes right up.
I assumed this was my internet connection at work that was a fault, because this never happens to me at home.

Okay, let’s see if we can find out more about this.
Please tell us how you’re accessing the Dope – what kind of machine, what kind of operating system, what flavor of browser, what kind of connection.
When we know more about how you’re connecting (or not, as the case may be) we may be able to suss out some common situations that have bearing.
I would also venture to say that we have increased traffic and at least part of the situation may be due to that. How much of a factor this might be I don’t know; it’s only a WAG at this point. But we’ve been to this goat roping before, let me put it that way.
So let’s see what we can find out here.
I see this occasionally…maybe once a week. WIndows 7, Chrome, WiFi over AT&T U-Verse.
All the time.
Mac iOS 10.6 Safari
As I said, every day, very frequently.
Whatever version of Windows was on this machine when I bought it three or four years ago, Chrome.
That, and another thing: I’m even getting wildly different responses to different forums on this very board!
That is, from the forums page, I’ll click on one forum (opens in a new tab). It may just sit there for a while, or even for a long while, or even indefinitely. Meanwhile, I click on a different forum (opens in yet another new tab), and that will open quickly (or not), seemingly independent of the first one that’s still waiting. I can sometimes work my way through several forums like this, getting some to load, waiting arbitrarily long for others; sometimes getting a time-out or connection dropped for one but not another, and so forth.
So, do you have several separate servers hosting the various forums? It seems to act like that.
(AND note, since TubaDiva’s notice recently of the database re-building, or whatever they did, I haven’t specifically had the occasion to pay much attention yet. So I don’t know if this is still going on.)
