I think that Yahoo still isn’t showing players who were Cut as available.
Huh, this is peculiar. What I noticed is that rookies that were drafted were becoming unavailable, so obviously yahoo must be taking data from the unsubmitted but in progress draft to inform their available players list.
But… cut players are still showing on their old roster. Justin Fields on Wilson’s roster rather than free agents for example. I’m not sure why it’s updating in one direction but not the other, but I was incorrect about it being a reliable way to tell who is available, so don’t use the yahoo unowned player list for this purpose. It would’ve been a convenience but it’s not necessary, we’ll just have to consult the thread for a list of cut players that we might want to draft.
@Really_Not_All_That_Bright - I don’t want to be a taskmaster if it can be avoided but we’ve been at 15 hours since it has been your pick and you said you’d have your cuts and pick in “first thing” today, so I’m going to start a 4 hour countdown until we move on to the next pick. Just to make it an even number, let’s call it 6pm eastern. If RNATB’s cuts and picks aren’t in by that time, Retro will be able to make the 1.07 pick.
I sent RNATB an e-mail just now in the hopes that he’ll get his pick in soon. I don’t want anyone to lose draft position when it’s avoidable. But in the other direction, people grumble when the draft moves too slowly and rules are enforced too loosely, so there has to be some sort of reasonable compromise.
I covered it a few posts ago, but just as a reminder: in the rare event that someone’s pick is not made in time, we have a 2 hour minimum cooldown between picks that come after theirs. The goal with this is that when someone is missing we don’t have people create a rapid-fire series of picks that puts the missing person’s pick much further behind very quickly.
The missing person can jump back in at any time and make their pick, but picks made validly by the managers who picked after them are permanent. So if someone misses the 1.06 pick, and the 1.07 manager takes player X their pick, and 2+ hours later the manager at 1.08 makes player Y their pick, the person who missed their 1.06 can jump in at any point to make their pick, but it cannot be player X or Y.

Maybe I should’ve traded for your pick just to grab a running back, because by the time it’s my pick I’ll either have to take one of the top TEs I don’t need or yet another #6 or #7 receiver prospect that I normally grab when I draft at the end of the first round, and one of those dudes is the second most valuable Browns receiver! How much can that be worth! I’ll probably end up taking whoever the consensus best WR remaining is and hate it. This draft kind of demands it.
If anyone is interested in the 1.11 when it gets here, I’d be willing to trade it for your first next year. If you weren’t a playoff team this year, it could just be straight pick swap. My 1.11 for your last pick this year, and your first round pick in 2027 for my last pick. With… and it’s a little weird to call this out, an exception of Petey, because Petey is gonna draft last next year and it’s a weird fluke that he’s drafting high this year.
If you were a playoff team, I’d still swap, but I’d want a late 2nd or early 3rd back this year instead of your last pick.

I had absolutely no interest in Concepcion. A WR who can’t catch tied to a quarterback who can’t throw is not my idea of a #1 pick. He’s available for a serviceable RB or a #1 pick next year plus a #2 this year.

I do worry about the Jets, though, much like I felt about Kincaid with the Bills. The team has no history of featuring a tight end.
But then google just now reminded me of Pete Metzelaars, who was indeed a great tight end for the Bills. So I was probably misguided regarding Kincaid. (Who owns him? Has he been any good?)

I’m torn here between two guys. One is liked by most everyone except, apparently, his coach, but he balled out in the first two preseason games. The other had ACL surgery in December and is scheduled to make his preseason debut 6.5 hours from now. I’d love to watch that game before making this pick, and I would technically probably still remain in the 12-hour window, but that feels like a dick move.

I agree - any time happenstance leads to an advantage a person can choose to use or not, I think it’s sketchy to use it. It’s sort of punishing the people who (correctly and decently) let the draft move faster. So I won’t do it either. But I do have a couple of guys I didn’t expect to be available and a little trade interest so I will have to take a bit of time on this one.
Well, as a person who voted for the draft to start after preseason, my perspective is slightly different. It doesn’t feel like a happenstance advantage as much as it feels like a general disadvantage for all of us that there are still preseason games to be played.
If Bell didn’t have that ACL tear in December, I might have actually held out to watch his preseason game. But the injury made me feel better about going with Stribling regardless.
That doesn’t mean I won’t be super annoyed if Bell has a monster game tonight.
You could’ve taken a little time to pick someone you liked better - I had mentioned just in the previous post that your pick doesn’t disappear, it would’ve just given the next guy up a chance to draft ahead of you - if he’s around and ready to make the pick. But even dropping back one slot is better than taking a guy you don’t actually like.
Anyway, congrats on the new job and thanks for getting your pick in. Sorry for the time pressure if it resulted in a panic pick, but I hope you understand the need to move things along.
