"I’d have picked up Elvis Joseph to back up Fraud instead of Shipp. Good QBs - I think Gannon has another year at least, and McNair is a starter in and of himself. But picking anything from the Redskins’ QB camp is a big minus! Best WRs in the draft, and Carolina was a great pick up. "
Getting Fraud’s BU was my plan all along, but then the more I looked, the more muddy the waters became. Elvis Joseph? maybe. But have you heard anything about this Toefield kid? I’ve read conflicting things about who will be the backup this year, so rather than guess wrong I just decided to go with Shipp.
Also, I’ve just got a feeling about Ramsey this year. I may be very wrong, but he’s available in the last round of nearly every mock I’ve seen yet. Certainly not risking much by taking him. Gotta play the longshot hunch every once in every draft, as long as you arent paying too much for it.
Yeah, but with your depth, you didn’t need another fantasy backup, you needed a real life backup. There aren’t many players you need to handcuff this year, but Fraud is one of them. I’d put Warner/Bulger and maybe Barlow/Hearst on that list. And Martin/Jordan isn’t a bad idea if you can spare the room. If Priest had a decent backup I’d put him on the list, but he doesn’t.
As for Ramsey, you gotta follow your hunches. But if I had picked up McNair as my backup, I’d stop worrying. That guy would play out of a wheelchair, if they could manage to strap him in one. <insert DUI joke here>
The Bungals have been accumulating talent for years. I think Marvin Lewis is the man to organize it. My hope is that Chad Johnson becomes a #1 receiver this year. If so, that makes him a steal. Rice and Brown are old. If you sawed them in half, it would take days to count the rings. Porter is a heartbeat away from being a #1 as well.
Combined, Wells and Allen made a decent tailback last season. Mack has to be better than those two mutts, especially with Boselli back and Carr having a downfield threat in Andre Johnson. As fas as Jordan, I’m not convinced Martin is still the man. I think the Jets are easing Martin out of the featured role. Canidate was a huge reach at 5. I wish I had a mulligan on that pick. However, if Spurrier ever gets the 'Skins organized, he might turn out to be a decent choice. You know Snyder wants him in the line-up, as much as he’s paying him.
FWIW, here are Johnson’s stats from last season. He didn’t receive substantial playing time until the eighth game of the season, so basically he did this in half a season. How could you not love this guy? I do, though not in a sweaty man-sex sort of way. Yet. Depends on how much money he wins for me this year.
I like starting on Mondays. I think 12 teams is ideal.
I’m surprised my team is being so well-received. I thought my draft was fair at best. I only made one good pick and it was my last one.
Regarding the 6 RB vs TE/PK/DEF issue, I’m with mb all the way. Drafting 2 PKs is just totally ridiculous. 10 teams in this draft, 30 starting PKs in the NFL. All you need is a replacement for your starter’s bye-week or if he gets hurt, and there are ample players out there for that purpose.
I’ve always been a proponent of carrying multiple defenses, though. They’re far more dependent on weekly matchups than any other position, so I always want to have more than one to choose from.
As far as TEs, though, there are only ever 5 good ones (or fewer) every year, so unless you’re drafting a top one it really doesn’t matter who (or how many) you get. Every week there are basically 5 guys on the wire who each have about a 25% chance of scoring you a TD, and it’s a crapshoot. If we were doing an actual draft this early in the year, I’d consider not drafting a TE at all and using the spot for an extra RB or WR to see how certain position battles sort themselves out over the offseason.
And regarding my 6 RBs, I think with Faulk, George, and Thomas as my first three, I was more than justified in grabbing a bunch of backups. Moe Williams is a steal in 12 if he puts up numbers comparable to last year’s. And I felt fairly comfortable with my first 4 WR’s. Funny, nobody likes my Morton pick (neither did I, really), nobody remembers all the buzz about him at this time last year. It was just a throwaway pick on a 5th WR for me anyway.
And I’ll brook no criticism of Ryan Longwell. Check the numbers. He’s elite.
I think he’s going to have a stellar year. In the second half of the season he decided he was going to single-handedly try to keep the Bungles from sucking, and from then on he caught everything that was thrown his way. The problem for me is that our money league is in Cincinnati, so almost every Bengal (and many Steelers and Browns) are overvalued. I bet he goes in the third or fourth round, latest in that league this year.
I’ll try to be in on next week’s, but I have a lot of work deadline’s so it may be difficult. I guess worse comes to worst I can just let the computer draft for me like Munch did, lazy bastard!
Third Ward was you, Baba? Then please replace “NurseCarmen” with “BabaBooey”.
Also, I didn’t mean to imply that Chad Johnson is a bum, or even a #2 WR. I like him a lot, and don’t see much downside on him. I was referring more to Streets/Porter/Muhammad.
Of those other three I’d rank them 1) Porter 2) Muhammad 3) Streets. Personally I think Streets is a bum, Muhammad has personal problems and is past his prime, but could have some potential if they get their QB situation worked out. Not sure if Porter is a real #1 or just benefits from the distraction of Rice and Brown. How would he look if he were in Chad Johnson’s shoes, for example? He’s got skillz, but I don’t recall seeing him doubled. Not that it’s his fault.
Porter’s problem is three-fold. (1) Jerry Rice is a robot. (2) Doug Jolley is increasing his role as an outlet receiver. (3) Garner picks up some serious catches from the backfield. Being the #2 WR on Oakland is actually being the #4 pass catcher.
Right on about Rice. He has his AARP card and he still catches 100 balls a year. Brown is headed downhill, though. Too many years returning punts is catching up with him. Still, having the #3 or #4 pass catcher on a team that throws over 600 times a year isn’t a bad thing.
Muhammad does have a lot of problems, both personal and team related. But he’s capable of a 20 point day. With any luck, he’ll have it on the day one of my starters is off.
I really like Streets for a couple of reasons: The Niners throw a lot, Owens is a nut job, and Stokes is on the way out.
Strategy wise, I like all three of these guys as back ups. I don’t actually believe all three of them are going to the Pro Bowl. In fact, they may be dogs. But odds are, one of them is going to more productive than anticipated, and that’s all I want out of a back up.
And if I ever take Trung Canidate in the fifth round again, one of ya’ll needs to come down here and whip my ass.
I’ll actually be available to do a mock draft next week. Either Monday or Tuesday is fine. This time, I’ll hopefully be able to do all my picks. Then, you will all cower before my wisdom and genius-ness.
