Sdmb nfl mock draft

The Rams decide to get more help protecting their pricey rookie and take

St. Louis Rams
33) Anthony Davis - OT, Rutgers

It’s a mock draft, dude.

It’s not your team to draft for. So, try to have fun.

For crying out loud, we are allowing trades in this mock draft, which is far worse than taking the best player available on the board.

If I want to take 7 punters and kickers with my picks, I can! Woo hoo!

oh, and for the rest of the drafters in this mock:

The Steelers will not trade any picks. I don’t have the time or energy to keep that straight. The Rooney’s have asked me to keep an eye on Ben this weekend.

Damn it. I’m on the road for the weekend and totally spaced that I’d signed up for this. If someone wants to take over for me, please feel free. Sorry. :smack:

Packers already claimed him with pick 23 (and the Cowboys would’ve snapped him up at 27 if they didn’t.) I think Rodger Saffold, LT, Indiana, is still available though.

He might. I actually like your 4th and 5th guys better than him.

No problem, it was just one selection. Feel free to keep the Chargers and, if you want, pick up another team. I think Ryan Matthews is a good pick for them, but I was also considering another fatass for the D Line.

Rats. Scanned the thread and somehow missed that.

Without a great value available at Tackle, Saffold doesn’t project as a good option on the right side, the Rams instead get a weapon for Bradford to use.

33) Demaryius Thomas - WR, Georgia Tech

Wow, I never realized that. So, in a nutshell, in the NFL, if you are too cheap to reward your best players, you get REWARDED with a draft pick. Totally amazing. Not surprising, but amazing. Even better that the team that poaches your player doesn’t have to give up a pick.

LOUNE is up for the Lions. Poor guy.

It’s disingenuous to say that teams are simply being cheap. There’s a hard cap and teams simply cannot pay everyone and there are always irrational teams out there like the Cowboys, Redskins and Raiders who are liable to completely overpay for players. That teams aren’t always willing or able to break the bank for a player isn’t really a bad thing and teams that are loaded at a position are simply being wise with limited resources.

In 2006 the Bears went to the Super Bowl and had a ton of players coming available in free agency. IT was simply impossible for them to pay them all. They chose to lock up all of their defensive guys (Urlacher, Harris, Vasher, Tillman, Brown, Ogunelye) and their lineman (Kreutz, Tait) and simply couldn’t afford to match the crazy offer that the Vikings made to Bernard Berrian. They drafted well and would have been punished for it if not for being compensated for Berrian’s loss.

How is that different from baseball when a team is rewarded with a draft pick when they fail to sign their own Type A free agent?

Well, every team is expected to be as competitive as they can be, and the compensatory draft picks are a way to eliminate, “Oh, woe is me! I had my bestest free agents swiped out from under me.” as an excuse for being bad.

Or something.

Anyway, back to draft day. While we’re predicting things, who do you expect to make a shocking pick or daring trade? I mean, besides the Raiders.

Stupid hamsters.

Ugh. Carlos Dunlap, defensive end from Florida. I can’t pass that up, even over the offensive tackle and Jahvid Best, who I like.

The Saints might. Payton loves to gamble. I think the biggest need is D-line and OLB, but they may decide to go in a completely different direction. I saw another mock recently that had them taking Tebow. Really hoping they don’t do that, but if Brees mentors him for a few seasons, we might get a Montana-Young transition at QB out of the deal eventually.

I’m not sure if it would qualify as shocking or daring but I bet the Patriots package a few of those 2nd rounders to move into the first round or up in the first round if there’s a guy they love. I feel like the odds are very good that they’ll make a move for a WR that could replace Moss in a year and both Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas fit the bill. They need LB/DE help too so I can see them moving up instead of down for a change and making two 1st round picks.

I think that maybe this Browns talk of moving up to grab Bradford could actually have some legs for once. This might very well be the year that the 1st pick gets dealt and I think the Rams are very high on Claussen and might be very happy to move back and take him at 7.

Do people really think Tebow is going to go in the first round now? I find that an amazing reach… I originally thought 3rd round was going to be generous for Tebow, but I’ve been hearing he’s climbing up the draft boards…

Maybe his new and improved delivery has really improved his status. I recently saw a mock taking him at 9 (Buffalo). I’m thinking they could trade down and grab a ton of picks if they really wanted Tebow, but if people are thinking 1st round anyway, maybe not.

I don’t think there’s any meat to that speculation, that’s just some hack sportswriter trying to stir up page views. There’s no way Tebow goes higher than the 2nd round and that’d even be a reach. The one thing in his favor is that this draft absolutely sucks for QBs. In normal years there’d be 10 QBs with a better NFL projection than Tebow but in this one those 2nd tier guys are all almost as crappy prospects as Tebow is. If a GM likes Tebow for his intangibles it’s not too hard to justify taking him ahead of McCoy, Lefevour and Pike and without much left beyond that desperate teams might go out on a limb.

Round 2
