Heh…just noticed you went 11-of-13 this week. Great job – too bad you were on a bye in the 1-on-1 Pool. 
I’m having a really difficult time making a survival pick this week.
There are a lot of high spread games, which would tend to indicate some confident winners, but I’m not buying it. New Orleans absolutely has not earned being a 9 point favorite over Atlanta. Same with NYG over SF.
My practical options are New Orleans vs ATL, NYG vs SF, Wash vs ARI, Cinci vs NYJ, Pittsburgh at Denver, SEA vs STL, Indy at Jax.
I’m fairly confident Pittsburgh will demolish Denver, so I guess I’d go with that for the safe route, even though it’s actually the 2nd lowest spread of the above games. But with a week like this, with lots of eh teams playing bad teams, it might be best to get one out of the way.
But damn if any single one of them looks all that appealing. Cinci should be able to beat NYJ, but they might be mid-implosion. NO should be able to beat ATL, but who wants to bet their season on 1 win team with 1 good week under their belt?
Blah.

Turned out my “safe” survival pick wasn’t. The one I picked (Washington) worked out by a few feet on a missed field goal.
I found out yesterday that I can win money by doing the pick 'em thing. The sports bar I’ve been going to for a year and a half, like everywhere else in Vegas, has video poker machines at every seat. And I guess the video poker company and the sports bar run a promotion where you fill out a pick 'em card, and if you’re one of the top 5 finishers in your location (out of, I’m guessing, I dunno, 25-40?) you get $100/$75/$50/$25/$10 in players club bonus money in the machines… which you don’t even have to play with, you can just withdraw it. And $2500 worth of raffles at the end of the year among anyone who finished top 5 in any week.
So all this time, after having put up a very good performance last year and pretty decent this year in pick 'em, I had no idea this was going on. I could’ve made a few hundred bucks by now.
Wow…way to toss my #1 ATS rank in the toilet this week.

I’ve got a bad feeling about my survival choices this week. I’ve got 2 “obvious” choices and in both cases I can see how things can go horribly wrong.
Plus my office pool is down to 19 people and I’d love to win the $500. The pressure is beginning to build.
The NYG/Mia game makes me nervous. It seems like it should be an easy game for the Giants. But the whole London thing, a winless team that lost its star player and might either get pissed and fight, or give up and roll over… there are enough weird circumstances around the game that I’m a little nervous picking it.
San Diego/Houston being a pick’em is great for the spread league. It’s not too often you get to pick a game with two pretty good teams straight up.
As a 49er fan I can only hope you feel better about yourself.

Jesus. Watching the Pats dismantle the Redskins (38-0 with 5 min left in the 3rd) is getting boring. Next week vs. Indy had better be different (with the same result, though ).
