SDMB Photo Thread - Show us a photo!

Thank you; I do not. One Sunday I went to get some art supplies and because traffic was light, I decided to drive down Charleston rather than get on the highway to get home. Saw the building, stopped and took the pano and went on my way. I do this all the time, stop to take pictures of graffiti, so I have quite a few. That one looks pretty good, tho, because it was relatively fresh (and protected) and because I had the full afternoon sun behind me.

IIRC the wall was done to raise money for and awareness of childhood cancer treatment.

I’ll see your cardinal and raise you a Northern Gannet:

I love this one. The texture of the feathers, the lighting- very striking.

And I agree that this would be a good thread for a “like” button- 83 posts in, there are too many that I love to list them all out.

Thank you! One of many, many shots from a fan boat in the everglades.

This one might be a bit of a cheat since it is a composite of lots of photos (the original is 76 MP, taken with a 12 MP camera):

Data missing in the corners, but what’s there can be framed in several ways (I have it saved as an oval with the missing areas “rounded out”.)

I hope you like this graffiti shot. I took it at Pick-n-Pull auto wrecking yard in Richmond, CA.

Here’s a couple of my bird pics when I was into wildlife photography:

That osprey shot is a once in a lifetime thing to see, let alone photograph.

Yeah, I got lucky. It was actually on a family vacation to Florida, taking a boat trip, so I didn’t bring my Canon 400X lens that cost more than my camera, I had a relatively inexpensive 50-300X prosumer lens. Getting that shot off a moving boat was again, pure luck.

I also got a good shot of the osprey coming up out of the water, but unfortunately, without a fish in its claws, or that would’ve really been a killer shot :disappointed:

Michael Jackson and Bubbles - Jeff Koons, 1988

Pennsylvania black bear. Pic taken from my Jeep, about a mile from work. I drove by slowly, taking pics. Only one was any good, and this is it.

Nice pic. Years ago when I was hiking in the Porcupine Mountains with a friend, a black bear came walking down the trail and came right up to us. He backed us up to a lake until we almost in it, getting within a few feet of us before changing his mind and walking away. He didn’t seem aggressive, more like a big friendly dog who was curious or looking for a handout.

It wasn’t until he was walking away that I remembered I had a camera around my neck! I finally took a couple shots before he disappeared into the woods completely, but the pics were just blurry dark blobs.

The heron shot is amazing. Hard to get great composition with moving wildlife.

Thanks!

(I was going to make a joke about how that’s high praise coming from someone with your username, but a quick googling tells me that herons and cranes, though similar looking, are from entirely different families of birds).

These things never get old for me - I’ve just loved all the wildlife photos in this thread.

Change of pace - oyster stall by the beach at Cancale, Brittany. One of about a dozen, all doing decent business.

I’ll take a break from the birds for a minute to present this house I spied in Nova Scotia.

mmm

Did somebody say clouds?

Here’s a frog.

And now for something completely different. I have absolutely no idea what this is or how it happened. It showed up in my camera between a bunch of cat pics. But I think it’s pretty cool.
