SDMB Poker Q1 2011: That's jacked and other whining

Yup, that scene is very familiar, even down to that cat looking a lot like Mayme. Mayme and Dot prefer to chase the cursor, though. Lucy likes walking across the keyboard.

That’s poker, Meeko. You were a hair better than a 3-2 favorite pre-flop. But then many hands are only 3-2 favorites pre-flop. Was the villain also short-stacked? Was he one of the blinds? How were the blinds compared to everyone’s stack? How close was everybody to being in the money? What do you believe your image was? Lots of variables. Or you can look at it as you just lost to a donk; it happens.

Post-flop, assuming no straight or flush draws, including runner-runner, you were a 13-1 favorite. I mean, he caught runner-runner 5s to beat you, for Christ’s sake. It was just a bad beat, and it happens to everybody.

Paging Oslo and Fubbs, and anyone else in the path of the storm. Hope you’re doing OK and staying warm.

we managed to avoid the worst of it here, but i’ve been in the hospital all week anyway lol

… That happens to play in a Pstars tourney.

Yup, the solid majority of times I get taken out in a Pstars tourney, I’m the clear hand favorite. But I still lose when I’m the chump.

If you ask me, that’s the Fundemental flaw with the game.

Of course, I’m only talking about bad beats, and not when I have miracles on the river.

What? I can whine, it’s in the title!

I guess I am starting along the road to skillz in poker because I am beginning to see in action the pro’s analysis that having several complete wildcards on the table is actually worse odds of winning a tournament than having maybe a couple, with the rest being mostly average players, because the “[del]crazy ass[/del] psycho motherfuckers” (as I call them under my breath) are more likely to take, and win on, enormous odds.

I played in the facebook FR this afternoon. I had a pocket pair of 3’s with a 45K6J on the board, busted straight draw.

I bet half pot because I figure the only way I win was for every body to fold. One guy calls with 9/8 off.

WTF? Yes he had a busted straight draw as well, but why just call me, if he raised, I would have run away like a little girl.

The only hands he could beat were 9/7 9/3 9/2 8/3 8/2 and 7/2

That’s precious, mensa! (His behavior, not your post :))

Got very lucky. Maybe 6" of sleet/snow, and the wind didn’t make major problems - maybe 2 foot drifts in places.

NFM?

i’ll try to make it tonight but it depends on the weather. although if we get snow it would be the first time that i have played poker in the snow. the problem is that trying to run a computer with gloves on is exceedingly challenging.

There was absolutely no snow here. Lots of rain but we were south of the front, but not by a lot. 60 mile North of me got blasted.

Got a trace of snow this morning, just enough to cover my deck. No biggie.
and PeekerCPA cut out those cancer sticks and you will be able to play inside.

I won’t make it yet again, because I haave a doctor’s appointment early in the morning and if I were still up at 11 I’d be at work!

Don’t worry I’ll return shortly to lower my standings back down.

Well it happened again. Down to 2BB and had AQs and I was the BB next so went all in. 3 others followed, KQo, Q10o, and 56s. 56 got the flush on the river. At least I got a ticket.

Sorry, Jay. Not enough.

You are the short stack at the table, having just over 1/10th of your original stack. Your first card is the Ace of spades. Second card is Two of spades. You are under the gun. Every last bit of instinct, intuition, gut feeling, etc is with you, in your favor.

Do you shove all in?
