Just wanted everyone to know that I have been practicing all week, so I won’t be worth a damn tonight.

I actually won a seat to a $200+15 buy-in hold’m tournament on Ultimate Bet on last Sunday afternoon. (thanks Annie Duke). 200K Guaranteed purse. ~950 people entered.

I was absolutely card dead for the first hour or so. Couldn’t get two cards that were related.

Then i started to get some goods cards. I got up to ~13000 chips, started at 3000 and was in 66th chip position. blinds are still really low

Then I was dealt A5 off in the big blind. I called a 3X BB bet from a guy (w/ 8000 chips) in early position. Flop is 4-2-3 Rainbow. I bet 50% of the pot and I am raised :dubious:

I am thinking he has a got an overpair to the board, I raise back, he calls. :dubious:

Turn was a 5, and I immediately think uh oh. I check, he checks. River was a blank. I go All-in, he calls and shows pocket sixes to beats my flopped straight.

I am down to 5000 chips, still ok as the blinds were low, but my cards have gone cold. for the next hour I tread water, unable to build up my chip stack.

Then I was dealt A/Q spades in middle position. I raise 3X BB and is only called by the button. Blinds Fold.

Flop was two spades plus a Queen. Top pair, top kicker with the nut flush draw. I make a pot size bet, and the button goes All-in. He has me covered. I call. He has pocket kings and the turn and river were blanks. UGH!

I think I played it pretty well. I don’t know really what I could have done not to go broke.

I finish the tournament in about 350th place. that was my first time playing poker online for money. I can’t believe how NERVOUS I was.

I have played poker for some high stakes in some home games and literally wagered hundreds of dollars playing golf and I was never as nervous as I was Sunday afternoon.

Great story, mensa. I’m impressed that you chose to jump into the deep end of the pool like that. I started with $10+1 sit-n’-go’s; never would’ve dreamed of starting with $200 a seat tourneys.

Look at it this way; no one can see how nervous you are behind a monitor…

No problem. I signed up for the players card and they added $5 in play on it as a sign up bonus. I turned that into $25 and cashed out, and then went card cold at a $1/2 table. Turns out that the M does run a shuttle to the fashion mall on the strip, but not very often and not too late. The last one was at 8:30 so I decided to take it, since my plan for winning the $40 cab fare back at the tables clearly wasn’t going to work.

Next time, we try that port.
