Yeah, this Thursday I got my poker fix by placing 6th in a freeroll of 7250 peeps (NL Omaha Hi-lo, a game I was previously not that great at). Unfortunately I only got a ticket to the second-level freeroll which I might not be able to attend, but you can’t argue with free.
The “tickets” you win get you into a free roll that pay actual cash! I have got my bankroll all the way to 89 cents. Yeah, thats right, 89 cents!! SUCKA!
LOL.
And I think the top 50 leaders each month get into a $5,000 freeroll. November’s top 50 will play a week from today at 2 pm.
So basically it takes 3 rounds to get into the serious money. But it starts out free. I just started playing a week and half ago. I am not even close to qualifying for the top 50. Until Oslo told me last night, I wasn’t even aware that there was a 3rd round. I’ll try harder next month.
Twitter also has a league, but it not “free” to start. If I get a bankroll high enough, I might start playing in those.
But the first step is to get to the top 250 of the free roll. It starts in one hour. and the password will be available in 50 minutes.
6th place is great! Congratz to Ludo! I actually like NL Omaha 8 better than Hold’m.
And I think playing Omaha makes you a better Hold’m player. I think it helps with the reads. I sometimes play in a home game that is all Omaha 8 and I definitely thought that got better in Hold’m after playing Omaha.
Bump…Its poker night at the SDMB. Peeker has been practicing all week and as of a few minutes ago he was trying to get “rags” in a Deuce to Seven Triple Draw Lo-Game

The lesson tonight was to beware of pocket aces.
Your own aces, not someone else’s.
how was the connection this week? I re-enabled the custom table-top but not the cardbacks - it only has to send each player the table-top once, but for some reason insists on sending the cardbacks to each player for every hand instead of allowing for some kind of local caching.
fubbs, I didn’t experience any problem other than I thought the game ran slower than normal. I had a lot loaded on my computer at the time…so my computer could have contributed.
I think some others had some issues as well.
i definitely had issues.
issues with the cards.
other than that it seemed fine.
Celebrating good Poker Karma, Oslo parlayed the dime ticket he won last weekend into $2.04 dollars by outlast all but 8 players in the facebook tournament last night.
he got to the final table beating about 2260 players.
Good Playing Oslo, but before you head swells up too high, you are still 11th in the standings in the quarterly Doper Competition.
Asshole.
Also won another ticket into the dime tourney.
Well I was not going to tell how you “donked” off your chips, but I will now.
Just got to the final table and Oslo was the short stack, but he wasn’t anywhere near panic mode yet.
Oslo is the button and the biggest stack at the table (Under the Gun) limped into the pot. Everyone folded to Oslo who had A9, (it could have been suited but don’t remember). We are on AOL IM and he asks me what to do. I told him to fold.
No he doesn’t fold but he raises (half his stack) about 5 BB. Blinds Fold, and Big Stack raises all-in, Oslo Calls.
naturally the big stack limped in with a monster, pocket Queens. and poof, Oslo’s chips were all gone.
hmmm
Where’s my bracelet?
I WON the FACEBOOK Freeroll this evening!! WON. 1812 entrants. I actually barely made the top 250 and doubled up two times right away and said what the heck, play it out. Wednesday evening tournament. Woo hoo.
Heh, it’s a lot easier once you get your ticket punched. Once I got into the top 85 in the Omaha game there was someone literally going all in every hand, because he obviously wanted to leave the game because he got what he was coming for. It took about 10 hands for me to take him up on it and it must have been frustrating for him to not be able to give away his chips!
I frankly was just trying to get my “dime” ticket. But I was not going to just give my chips away. I went all-in preflop with pretty good hands after the 250 bubble and won and doubled up.
Once the field drops to the top 100, people start trying again. When we got to the final table I was one of the short stacks (with a tight image) and the Big Blind. UTG min raised, everyone folded to me, and I came over the top with 7/2o  . UTG called.
The Flop: 7-6-2 rainbow. Great board for me and really no draws.
I was going to bet all-in if I missed, but since I hit top and bottom pair, I checked. UTG player bet enough enough to put me all-in. I snapped called. UTG player turned over pocket Jacks and then I hit quads when the turn and river came running deuces.
Obviously, I doubled up and it catapulted me into a good chip position. Betting with that 7/2 really loosened by table image and I got some calls when I over-bet the pot with really good hands. I don’t think I would have got those calls if I didn’t bet with 7/2.
And yes, if UTG had folded after my raise pre-flop, I was going to show the table by 7/2 offsuit.
Winning the $1.10 gives me a ticket for a $500 free-roll on Sundays :D. And right now, there are only 7 people signed up for it.
let me start this off with the sentiment that i absolutely hate having to say anything nice about mensa.
but with that out of the way:
way to go idaho.
Thank you peeker. I’ll be nice when I take your chips tonight!
Hmm, if I were to join in soon, I know I’d be at a disadvantage, but I may anyway.
I was put in mind of this because I’m staying (overnight) at a hotel/casino with a morning poker tournament. Only $20, but rounds are only ten minutes long and blinds double practically every time. This struck me as emphasizing luck a tad much (plus this place has one of those fancy three-“pronged” showers I wanna try before I go, and poker tournaments are more a dime a dozen), so I was in mind of finding a game, getting the rust off…
Leaper, nothing to risk but your pride, and Peeker lost his pride a long time ago and he still plays.
These blinds increase every ten minutes but we get more hands in than a “live” poker tournament. Everyone is attentive, and the time bank is not long.
