SDMB Poker Q4 2010 - I just lost "The Game" (and so did you!)

nice work, meeks

Will Heads Up always feel like a coin flip, regardless of the cards dealt ?

No. Interesting Wiki article about the track, but my user name is based on this. Which is based on this.

I started using the name when I was playing Warcraft III, because I favored the Orcs and liked the sound of it. It carried over on Battle.net to my current Starcraft 2 account.

When there was some discussion in the SDMB poker game about “Should I call you ‘Hell’ or ‘Greenie’ or what?” Someone proposed I be called “Hellboy”. So now, it’s GreenHell on the boards and Hellboy in the SDMB Poker tourney.

to say that i am shocked would be an understatement. as mensa has already noted the season of miracles is underway. i think i am going to go buy a lottery ticket and put it under meeko’s name.

way to go coon ass, btw.

GreenHell, would you like to trade?

Actually, it’s an informal thing, based on convenience or memorable misspelling. MissTake is usually called Missy. Dag Otto (Tomov on Mavens) is usually called Dag. Duke of Rat is Duke or Duck. I have been shortened to Oso or even O.

Standings, with 2 to go:

1 MindWanderer 77.8
2 Duke of Rat 74.7
3 Dag Otto 72.2
4 Meeko 70.3
5 MissTake 68.6
6 Robot Arm 68.0
7 MentalGuy 63.8
8 notfrommensa 62.7
9 peekercpa 61.0
10 Oslo Ostragoth 57.2
11 Ludovic 53.4
12 Yeticus Rex 51.0
13 fubbleskag 45.2
14 Gray Ghost 43.4
15 CrimeThink 42.7
16 Craneop2 32.2
17 Red Skeezix 30.5

Have any of you played “regular” dime tourneys without getting a ticket punched? How difficult are they compared to the ones you can get into from a freeroll?

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t do bad with my freeroll dime entries, but I have yet to place in the money. I might have to improve my skills before signing up for the pay version if all of the dime tourney are equally hard.

IMO, the best way to improve is to actually have something on the line.

We are talking about a dime for goodness sakes.

The thing is, it is damn near impossible for USA players to get money onto any site. Freerolls may not be WSOP-caliber play, but it’s the only way to fund cash games/tournaments.

We just have to get over our disdain of the players there, and learn to play against them.

I used to play a freeroll that regularly had 5000 entrants. I just folded almost everything but AA until I was desperate. Blinded out a lot, but cashed some.

NFM had some great advice for the PStars/facebook freerolls: we are allowed to register up to 20 minutes late, so do it and avoid the all-in assholishness that occurs early in those tourneys - half of the players will have busted out by then, and you won’t have paid any blinds.

So I might have a shot?

I mean, if I get first two times in a row?

Hey, It HAS happened.

For anyone that is interested, there is a promoted match (at least in the pokerworld) between Isaac Haxton and a player known as Isildur1 at 6 pm est this evening.

It is part of series of match known as the Superstar Showdown.

I won’t be around tonight as I’m going up to my dad’s. Next thursday, I’m having some family over for the weekend starting on thursday, so I may get a chance to play, but probably not.

I’ll be in tonight.

I’ve got IRL Trivia with a group I play with on occasion. If you excuse the pun, the cards fell right tonight.

I plan on playing tonight.

What time do we start again?

9pm Central Time

I thought it was 5 or 10 after.

bumpity

shhh.

If enough of the regulars are interested, I would consider putting up a voice-chat server (Ventrilo/Teamspeak/Mumble) for use during the weekly game (it would be hosted separate from the game, so would not introduce lag).
