A few of us played a Stars freeroll after the game. I lasted until I was out at 275th out of 5589. Thanks to Oslo and Hellboy for railing. I was actually amazed to find that I won one or two hands of Omaha.
I don’t really understand what those rankings mean or how they are derived. Especially not considering I “have a good chance of winning” for the quarter, since I’m not even 17th in those rankings. However, I have enjoyed the play and cameraderie of the Doper tourney.
Also, though I didn’t do well in the Pstars freerolls that night, I placed 36th of 4000 and won a seat in a tourney on Friday! : ) If I can’t buy my way in, I’ll WIN my way in!
Oslo has a spreadsheet that awards points for each week’s game, based on where you finish and the number of players (more points for beating a large field than a smaller one). The quarterly standings are your average points for the weeks you played, so no penalty for missing the game.
Like any average, someone can make a few appearance and get on a hot streak and get a score that they probably can’t maintain over time. It wouldn’t be fair to award the major league batting title to a guy who played in one game and got a couple hits. So you need a minimum of three results before you’re included in our standings.
In other words, for a system you “don’t really understand”, you’ve manipulated it brilliantly.
