SDMB Secret Santa Exchange

E-mail sent, so I’m in too (hopefully :))!

I collect coffee mugs (something from your area would be great), small stuffed animal (like beanie babies) and love holiday-themed items.

My favorite color is blue, I love chocolate (esp. dark), and I like sandalwood essential oil. laughs I don’t take baths, but do shower (LOL). I’m also a big Star Trek fan.

Thanks for volunteering to run this, Anaamika! It’s a big job, so thank you so much!!

I love these things! I’ll send you an e-mail in a moment, Meeks. Thanks for organizing!

I have an Amazon wish list under my real name also. I’ll go through and make sure it shows the kinds of items I really want and doesn’t list anything I already have. Books and music are always good. I’m a chocolate snob - any really unusual/gourmet chocolate would be great. Really don’t need any further figurines, candles, little dishes or anything that falls into the bric-a-brac category. Also not a big bath product fan (I’m allergic to some). Earrings (pierced) are always nice; I prefer smallish but unusual ones. Favorite colors for stuff to wear are dark fuchsia and black. Fun socks are always good. Any local food items (unless they’re really really spicy) would be cool. Oh…desk toys are always good (work bric-a-brac is somehow permitted in my little universe).

Wow…that’s much longer and more complicated than I meant it to be…

GT

Me too

Link to Amazon wish list. Though I’ve got the list cluttered up with reminders of things I want to borrow from the library, or get for the kids, so one would have to read the comments.

Things that amuse me:

  • Mooses (meeses?). Anything with a moose on it.
  • Funky pens/pencils - those are my standard souvenir when I go any touristy place
  • Something representative of wherever you’re from.
  • Munchies (preferably sans peanuts as Dweezil is allergic so we try not to have 'em in the house)
  • Desktop toys - you know, the things you pick up and fidget with. Along those lines, ThinkGeek sort of things.
  • I like to cook so small kitcheny things are fun also.
  • Oddball music (as an example of the odd variety, my iPod has: Weird Al, Da Vinci’s Notebook, Toolbox Classics, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Scott Joplin, and Crazy Frog)
  • Christmas ornaments are also a standard souvenir. Er, I guess that’s the other thread
  • Funky but not-too-heavy earrings (pierced)

Things I’m not fond of:

  • Things with a lot of fragrance (no floral/spice though I use fruity-scented soap from time to time).
  • Coffee/tea

E-mail sent - I’m in!

I love most anything cat-related. My favorite color is purple. I love bath stuff. If there is a hockey team in your area, something from the team would be wonderful.

I also love chocolate, the darker the better.

Ooh, I’m in! I so wanted to participate in the White Elephant exchange, but I missed the deadline. Thank you, Anaamika, for running this!

Here are some pointers (but feel free to improvise, I love surprises):

I like to read, mostly fiction
Geeky toys are most excellent
I like kitschy stuff, maybe even girly things
Something local is always appreciated
Stuff for the kitchen would be great, I love to cook
I loooove coffee mugs (though my roommate has expressly forbidden me from bringing yet another mug into the house, so that might not be such a great idea)

Things that you might want to stay clear of:

I’m not so much into the girly things in terms of bubble baths or body lotions
Knitting is not my thing
I can’t really use christmas ornaments as my cats tend to rip them down and play with them

I, too, missed the White Elephant Exchange, and I’m still semi-bummed about that. I had this hideo…er, fabulously unique bowl to send. Hrumph.

So, I’m jumping in this right now! Email will be on its way shortly.

Let’s see…
I’m a librarian by profession, Medieval Reenactment nerd and costumer in my free time. My favorite colors are green and purple. I collect dragonflies and pomegranates. I am a nut for kitchen gadgets. Other hobbies include lamp work beads, serti silk painting, and reading.

Thanks Anaamika, for organizing!

Are you one of my multiple personalities? I like everything but the mousepad (laptops at home and digital mouse at work)

I’m in! I’ll be sending my email shortly. I’m still jonesing for my elephant to arrive, so I figure I might as well sign up for sending more out – karma’s gotta come back to me sometime

I am in. I loved the WE and look forward to the next one.

My favorite color is hunter green
Any cat, dog, bird, fish or turtle stuff
Any crochet stuff (yarn, hooks or patterns)
Cook books
Funky Office stuff
Munchies (Cashews or Peanuts)
Dark Chocolate

I’m in. I’ve been waiting for this, and I’ve had a blast the past couple of years.

Like other people here, I’m a hard-core knitter (I’ve got a project resting on my hands while I type). Small, cool patterns would be fun. On the other hand, I love reading about all sorts of craft stuff and I’m getting curious about weaving and dying.

I also love puzzles and games. I’ve been doing Sudoku and Kakuro since they were Number Place and Cross Sums; I can take or leave Sudoku, but Kakuro will always be my weakness.

I like floral-scented bath stuff. In some ways, I’m hopelessly girly.

I’ve also got a wedding to plan (insert Princess Bride reference here), so funny wedding-related stuff will be fun. I’m a huge Etiquette Hell fan.

Thanks for organizing this, Anaamika.

It’s great that we’re all including a few things about ourselves here, because by doing so, we’re making a stressful holiday a little less stressful for the person who gets us.

Take the time now to revisit your profile, and make sure it’s up to date. I know that mine reflects a personality that just no longer exists.

And be aware that the person who gets you may very well comb over your past posts. You may very well have been a jackass in some of those, and unfortunately those are on the permanent record. If you decide to investigate your pick, it might be wise to read only the best posts of that person and ignore the jackassery.

Whoever gets me – please ignore mine.

Another knitter…SQUEEEEEEEEE

It’s the first time I can join, and I definitely want to participate. I like books, crafts and cooking, but I also like a surprise.

Good morning, all! Ok, here’s who we have so far:

I’m not on the Dope anywhere near as much on the weekends so I may only update once per day. DON’T PANIC!

One more thing - people, please don’t forget to post in this thread as well!

A quick review:

Deadline: December 2nd for you to sign up.
Limit: $15 is the average limit. If you want to go as high as $20 or as low as $10, that’s according to need and desire.

Speaking of needs and desires, make sure you post your wants, needs and desires in here.

:smack: sorry. I sent it now. :o

:::MZ scans list, sees names of folks who posted after she did, does not see MZ, tries not to pout:::

I see that you might just be a Harry Potter geek too. Oh, really, if there’s any justice, we really should be each other’s secret santa, Shirley. Meanwhile, it’s not like I would even need to ask the ladies in the yarn aisle anything. Tell them a thing or two… but not ask.

scratches head

How’d I do that?

Update tomorrow and I’ll be sure to add you!

Okay, what the hey, I’m in too! (I really dug the White Elephant exchange!)

I read a lot, heavy on the sci-fi, fantasy, and nonfiction.
I sew.
I cook.
I drink a lot of coffee and a lot of tea.
I play board games.
I have three small children. (Not sure how that would lead to gift ideas, but maybe someone will get creative.)

Obligatory link to (non-Amazon) wishlist.

You are teasing me. HP, knitting…yarn…fans self I would like to thank Al Gore for inventing the internet so I could finally meet other hard core geeks like me. At least I’m not a furry.
