Secret Santa 2006

I’m gonna work it up tomorrow. Watch this thread, and be thinking about what you’d like and if you want to participate.

Same rules as always ($10.00 limit), and since this is my first time, any hints and/or advice are appreciated. Thanks to twickster for already getting me started on this.

Thanks

Bill (Quasi)

I’ll save Quasi the trouble of looking for last year’s guidelines, and go ahead and post the rules:

  1. Participants must be 18 or older.

  2. $10 limit (for the gift; postage is considered separate)

  3. Dec. 5th deadline to sign up; send an email with your Doper name and your real name in the subject line (this makes the organizer’s job a lot easier); in the body of the email, give your Doper name, your real name and your full address, and specify if you want to do international or US only in the exchange. “International” includes between Canada and the U.S. Generally the international exchange pool is handled as a separate group, so if you mail internationally, you’ll receive internationally

  4. Keep the gifts family friendly; a lot of people like to save their presents and open them on Christmas morning with all their other gifts.

  5. Make a few suggestions when you post here to help out your Santa.

  6. After you send a package, post in this thread. Do the same when you receive your gift.

  7. International mailings should be out by December 12-15. This is anything that is not the 48 contiguous.

  8. All domestic mailings (US) should go out no later than Dec. 20th and probably should be sent Priority Mail. It really is not that much more (a few cents to a couple of quarters) and gets there faster.

  9. Send a note with your gift that contains your SDMB username.

Quasi said he was planning to set up an email acct. specifically for SS correspondence, so the sign-up address won’t be available till tomorrow.

We can start wiggling around like a bunch of preschoolers who need to pee right now, though – I’ll kick things off.

Ooh! Ooh! Secret Santa! Yay! Sign me up!

I want to! Just thought I’d say that I was thinking about starting a thread about this all day, but was waiting to to see if someone would/had. Also, a suggestion. Two years ago we did a 10 dollar gift and a 5 dollar charity donation, which I thought was really sweet. Anyway, awaiting more details …

Yay! I am so glad to see this post, and especially glad to see it early. Great idea, too, about handling the International list separately; hopefully folks will have enough time to get their packages in the mail!

And yes, I DO want to participate again, so am anxiously awaiting the address on the morrow.

IN!!!

Or, I will be, when there’s an “in” to be in…

I want to be in! I’ll be watching for the e-mail address.

Well, I would like to participate, but it was such a gong show for me last year, I think I better skip it.

I hope you guys have fun though!

Ooooh! I want in!

I missed out last year…I am soooooooo in this year!

Thanks Quasi!

I’ve been bummed about missing the WE Exchange last month, I’m totally in for Secret Santa!

santasdmb2006@yahoo.com has been reserved for Secret Santa 2006.

Please refer to the rules posted by twickster earlier in this thread.

Let the giving and good wishes begin, and let’s make this the biggest Secret Santa in SDMB history!

Thanks

Q

Can I just say that this is the sole reason I made sure to renew my subscription with my last paycheck? I kept putting if off until I remembered, hey I’ll miss Secret Santa again. I’m in and I can’t wait!

Officially signed up! I can’t wait. (Is it normal for Hallboy to be so casual when he says, “Is that another package from a Doper?”)

I’m in! Email has been sent.

I like horses, kitties, dogs, and babies - at least MY baby. I like green, blue and purple. I drink coffee and eat chocolate. I have a CD player in my car. I have pierced ears and short-ish hair (to my chin). I love Christmas tree ornaments of all kinds (including my Spongebob ones from a couple of years ago). Hope that helps.

I’m in, as well…international will be fine…

Likes: whales (if you’re going to send me one, make it a beluga, they’re my fave), anything homemade or to do with cooking.

Email sent.

19-year-old college student here. I love Horses, dogs, and animals in general. Hobbies include knitting, reading (preferably historical fiction), baking, and horseback riding.

Please don’t send anything really scenty. My mother can’t handle the scent. Normally, I’d just use it while off at college, but as I’m headed to Spain for the spring semester and trying to pack light, I probably wouldn’t be able to use whatever it is until next Fall when I’m back at school.

You don’t have to send me anything related to my hobbies or whatever, of course. I like to be surprised. I’m just trying to help whoever gets me, as I know I can be horribly difficult to shop for.

Just sent my email, so I’m officially in:

Hints: Books and CDs always work; my wish list at Amazon is in my real name (and features many entries with “SDMB” in the memo line  ) – used is great. I also like cool calendars, handmade stuff, or anything from your location – and my totem animal is the flamingo.

Woo hoo! I loves me some Secret Santa!

What he said
::squirmgigglesquirmgiggle::

For me, you can never go wrong with cat stuff.
I like costume jewelry earring, pierced, specifically on fishhooks, rather than posts. Bright colors are better than earth tones, silver toned is better than gold toned
I’m not much of a reader, but I do enjoy a nice cordial now and then
Please nothing specifically Christmas related, as I am Jewish

If I may, I’d like to add an addendum (you may or may not agree but)
4a. Resist the urge to send a gag gift, even tho it may be family friendly. We don’t all have the same sense of humor.

Oh, yeah. As a take-off from what anyrose said, jewelry is good too. Something kind of artsy, silver preferred over gold. Also, to my gift-sender, you should know that, being horribly disorganized, I may continue to think of things and post throughout this thread- or, alternately, I may experience brainfreeze.

I should also probably mention that my favorite color is blue, and I prefer things in the blue/purple end of the color spectrum.
