Sorry I’ve been away. I’ll update after work and see if I need to reassign anyone.
Thanks to Rocking Chair, who sent me a purple ornament, an adorable “LOVE” keychain with a bell (which has also been pressed into service as a Christmas tree ornament temporarily), a pad of Grumpy Cat sticky notes, and some glow in the dark Silly Putty. The glow putty came in handy the other day when my daughter and I built a blanket fort and turned out all the lights to pretend we were hiding from a tornado.
The Purple ornament is the Milky Way, it should have some glow in the dark spots.
That along with the glowy silly putty are from the Franklin institute.
The love keychain is pure Philadelphia. The love statue is right by city hall and the plaza it is in is due for a total Reno soon. For the pope’s visit they put up a matching “amor” statue on the steps of the art museum so they would bookend the area he was in. The bell is the liberty bell.
I’m honored to be the secret Santa of the organizer.
If my list is correct, Anaglyph and Septima have not posted that they have sent a gift yet. If I don’t see any updates by tonight, I will reassign to people who have volunteered to be Secret Santa to two people.
Mind you, after last years experience working as a postal sorting Christmas temp, I’m more surprised when anything makes it on time. Unfortunately that appears to be going for the parcel I sent as well…
So far the Postie’s been here three times with parcels today, the first two times I raced my housemate to the door and it was stuff for him, the third time I let him get it, and it was an exciting box o’ goodies from Pittsburgh, well, near Pittsburgh, courtesy of Nayna all for me!
A selection of fun/typical local candy, a pretty homemade tree decoration (that is, it looks like a tree, not sure how you’d attach it to a tree) doggie treats, a gingerbread scented dangly thing, and some very handy gardening gloves (my old ones have a big hole in them, and I’ve been forgetting to get a replacement for about a month now).
Thank you! It’s a miserable, soggy, windy day here, and that impoved it no end
I got presents in a Universal Orlando Resort bag. I got a card with a T-rex on it, a beautiful stuffed cat, and a chocolate frog (which’ll probably be gone soon. )
So glad you received and enjoyed the gifts, Filbert! Sounds like the package was late, but not TOO late, so yay!
I apologize if I’ve caused my sender some anxiety - I got a postcard from the post office the day before I left for vacation, asking me to come down to pick up a “parcel,” but I didn’t have time, and it didn’t occur to me until too late that it may be my Straight Dope Christmas Exchange parcel, and that I should have posted that development.
Then I left for vacation, and then my flights home were delayed, and I couldn’t actually pick up the parcel until yesterday. And it is WONDERFUL! I don’t know what I’ve done to please the gifting gods this year, but my presents are from Japan, land of amazing and wonderful and mysterious foods, toiletries, and paper goods. In my box were hilarious stickers, cat-shaped Post-It notes, hand cream, paper soap (!!!), face packs (Paper? Liquid? We just don’t know yet!), and lots of candy and snacks! I don’t know a bit of Japanese, so opening some of the packages will be an extra treat, because I’m not really sure what I’ll find inside!
I couldn’t find a note, so other than the customs label with my sender’s real name, I’m not sure who my Secret Santa is! But to you, thank you so much! I love it all.
I come home on new years eve (what it’s not midnight?) and see a wonderful canister in my mailbox from England filled with candies of all flavo(u)rs. I can’t wait to eat them all tomorrow.
I also received an awesome pair of local socks and a pen (just as I asked for!) featuring none other than Shaun the Sheep! Yes, his movie did come out here in the states and as a fan of animation I am well aware of Wallace and Gromit (I was a Pengu fan myself).
All that said, the coup de gras was a hand-drawn label of my username! It had a monocle and moustache for the Sir, and some Teacups for my name.
It was well worth the wait and I can’t thank you enough!
Nayna, sorry for the lack of a note/card/explanation. As far as I know, Japan Post charges printed matter rates if there are cards/letters inside, so I always send stuff without. Please PM me if you would like more info!
