Can’t believe I didn’t think to check for this thread until the week before Thanksgiving. D’oh!
But, PM sent and I’m in!
Suggestions? Lessee, local stuff, of course - magnets, locally-made knicknacks, stuff like that. T-shirts always welcomed - I wear a men’s large. I also really like scented soaps and body washes and things that smell pretty - I’m secure in my masculinity, damn it. Penknives (last year Anaglyph sent me a Swiss Army knife that was actually from Switzerland!), leatherwork, small metal things. I’m kinda off candy, anymore. Cool socks. Ink - I like calligraphy and fountain pens.
And, as always, a big “thank you” to Silvorange, for organizing this every year!
I live outside Chicago, too far to drive in, and there’s nothing out here in the sticks with my town’s name on it. Whoever I get will not be getting any local cool stuff from South Elgin, IL
22 and I still need contact info for Hockey Monkey
Stuff I like, in case you get me: Homemade or local things/foods (no allergies), yarn (do all of us in this thread crochet?), buttons and beads, random coins from around the world, just neat stuff. I’m a sucker for dumb novelty items, too.

Gosh! I haven’t been on SDMB for months, and I just tuned back in a day or two ago. I would never forgive myself for missing the Secret Santa Exchange, as it is one of the highlights of my Christmas!
Things I like: Purple, cats, handmade whatever if you are crafty, funky jewelry (by which I mean odd or unusual), things local to your area, Christmas ornaments.
Oh, I am sooooooo in! This is my first Christmas! Okay, my first since I was 8 years old and my parents converted to the Jehovah’s Witnesses religion, but my first since leaving last year. I have 30+ years of missed Christmases to make up for and I love giving gifts. See my AMA that I did here for more info if you’re interested.
I’m going to have to say no to all food items. I’m a picky eater for one, but I’ve also developed wicked lactose intolerance issues and it’s just safe to stay away from the food zone.
As far as interests, I like gadgets. I also like sports (football, basketball, baseball). It might be cool to get something reflective of your area or where you live if your area is known for something specific. I don’t know, I usually have a hard time figuring out what to get myself, lol. It’s not like I have a lot of practice in getting gifts either with my history.
Thanks for this idea! I’m excited to play and hope that whoever I get loves what I get them. I’ll try hard, believe me.
What do I like? Books… books are always nice. I read basically anything that falls in my hands, but I particularly enjoy reading books about history, or science… “real life” books are always welcome (true crime, history, scientific divulgation, traveler’s tales…)
Also the color red, sour candy, and whatever can be considered “weird” or “unusual”. Something very representative of your region would be nice as well.
If there is still time I’d like to join. I’ve had such fun in previous years.
I’m not hard to please. I like bright colours and glitter. I have no food allergies. I drink coffe and tea, I knit, and I love locally produced stuff that’s special to whatever area you’re from.
I collect local true crime books - if there is a “Big book of (your city) Murders”, I’d love that soo much. I’m also a history fan in general.
I’m a totall geek, so anything nerdy will find a good home too.
I like jewel tones, particularly blues and greens. I love things that show local flavor, whether those are treats or something more permanent (magnets, pictures, or other things entirely).
Of note with food: I cannot eat anything with nitrates in it, so avoid bacon-flavored stuff, cured meats, and jerky. I do not like coconut, mango or raisins. Minty things are fantastic and a combo of chocolate and mint is beautiful.
I have a weird thing about new socks: I think putting them on is one of the best feelings in the world. If you were to go this route , my shoe size is women’s size 10 (I dunno, maybe you’re a knitter and this is important).
Daily coffee drinker, occasional tea drinker (typically herbal non-caffeinated when I go for tea). Favorite tv show is Parks & Rec even though it’s over. I’m a librarian.
I have no idea what else to add here Oh, I also have a 3 year old ginger tabby named Velcro. He’s the sweetest cat I’ve ever had. His life’s motto seems to be “I like people. You are a people. I love you.” He never meets a person he doesn’t like, even if they don’t like cats.
I happened to notice this thread just now - right in the nick of time!
I like everything, really, except for vegetables. I’d most appreciate something local to the giver.
I’m not allergic to anything, love all colors, read books (fiction), listen to music (just about anything), love dark chocolate and coffee, and would absolutely appreciate something homemade.
This is so much fun. Thanks again and as always, Silvorange.
29! I have matched everybody up already, but I am off to see a matinee of “Arrival,” so I will send PMs when I get home. That means there’s still time for a last minute entry.
