Got my presents!!! There isn’t a doper name on it, but I am guessing that it is from Sarabellum1976. Couldn’t wait to open it, so… I got a package of Brownie Brittle, which I have yet to try. I may wait until we have company so I don’t eat the whole bag myself. Then there are some snazzy, cool coasters with a Texas theme. We need new coasters. How did you know? Then I opened a desk calendar with a mind bender puzzle for each day. That will go to work to keep me entertained there. Finally, a beautiful scarf in a kind of plaid/argyle pattern, kind of hard to describe, but it’s in these really wonderful rich colors. I believe it is a crochet pattern. I may have to ask where she got the pattern 'cause it’s so cool. Thank you so much. I love everything. Happy Holidays!
Yep, that would be my package! (Sorry I forgot to put a name on it, AGAIN…) The last time I did this Secret Santa, I got your name that time, too! And I think I made you a scarf that time too! That one was a white, chenille, poufy thing with pineapple edging. And maybe a peppermint candle or something? I forget.
This scarf was not exactly crocheted to a pattern… it’s a newer type of crocheting called “planned pooling” where you take a skein of variegated yarn, and use a computer program (no kidding!) and measure out how many stitches per inch versus how many stitches per color segment, then you plot them into an argyle pattern. (Or stripes, or zig-zags, or whatever.) It’s kind of like crocheting a math problem, haha.
So when you said you like earth tones, I just popped by my local yarn shop and picked out the skein of yarn that looked most “earthy” to me that would also pool. The yarn was “Folklore” by Loops & Threads. It’s machine washable (but don’t put it in the dryer) and will get softer after it’s been washed and worn a few times.
So glad you liked all of it!
I forgot that the white scarf came from you! I love that scarf. It is soooo warm. I often use it at work as a lap blanket because my office is always freezing.
That’s too funny about the new scarf coming from a computer program. May have to investigate further. Did knit a Mobius scarf for a friend once, so I am all about the maths and the needle crafts.
Anyway, thanks again!
Tracking says the package that I sent is delayed. Doesn’t give an estimated delivery date. Hopefully it will arrive before Christmas. I’ll post again if I learn anything new.
My package is in the mail and the USPS says it will deliver on Dec. 23. Squeaking under the wire!
Swampspruce, I love my prezzies!
First, sorry about the day delay. The post office put the package between the screen and locking door so I didn’t see it when I checked my porch yesterday.
On to the packages, lots of packages! First, a much needed pair of gardening gloves. Then a newspaper to tell me what is happening in the big town of Cold Lake. You and I think alike swampspruce, I love reading the local paper if the place isn’t my locale. Then, a lovely necklace that I will wear to work tomorrow. I love people who support local artists, and the necklace is beautiful. Then, not one but two cookbooks, one on pulses (think: legumes) and the other on mustard. I love mustards and I figure Canada ought to have the best recipes because they have the best mustard! I’m happy with the pulse book too because I can toy with them in my pressure cooker which I promised myself I would practice with this winter.
But wait, there’s more! I even received a keychain! Not just any keychain, this one will make me the envy of several airplane-geek friends. It has a heavy-duty tag that reads “Remove before flight” with a RCAF roundel on it. I’m going to show it off to my RCAF Reserve friends.
All in all, a very cool prezzie. Thank you swampspruce! And thanks to Silvorange for selflessly organizing this season-highlight event!
Yay! I’m glad you enjoyed them carnut! No apologies necessary, I’m just glad everything arrived intact and that you are happy!
I was going to throw in some Oilers stuff but that would have been mean…
Okay, so after the delay, USPS says the package was delivered today! Whew! Glad it got there before Christmas.
I GOT MY BOX!!!
I’ve been excited every day when I get home to see if it had arrived yet, and the waiting is half the fun! It looks to me like @Rhiannon8404 overnighted my gift and that is a very over the top move!
I really thought about waiting until Christmas to open it. I really did. But that didn’t last long. This is fun, you guys! I’m so glad that I get to be a part of this. Thank you @silvorange for your work to assemble the fun for this year after year!
Before I even got the box completely open, I saw the pattern on the inside of the box. I know it’s just a reused box, but I will definitely be coloring the fun design lol.
The first thing I saw was an envelope that said to open the card last. So I put it to the side and moved the bubble wrap. There were 5 wrapped gifts all tied with a bow. I am so glad you wrapped them - untying the bows and opening the wrapping made it even more fun. And I had no idea what was in each!
I had to decide which to open first. There were two that matched and felt like glass. I thought they would be candles, but when I saw the top, it said mulberry and I knew it was jam. The other flavor is nectarine. I am a huge fan of anything fruit! I really miss the homemade jams my parents used to make so it means a lot to me that I have something like this! I’m excited to pop the top of both jars tomorrow morning for my breakfast.
The next one I tried to guess by feeling through the paper and was totally clueless. It turned out to be a magnet representing the hometown of rhianon8404. A really cool magnet - with a couple of layers of images from her city. I like that personal touch!
Next was a box that clearly held jewelry. I have to admit that I felt nervous because I didn’t think to include that I have a metal allergy in my initial description. But it turns out that my worries were a complete waste of emotion because these were sterling silver and I can wear that with zero issues. And you guys wouldn’t believe how great they are! They are gardening themed earrings with a tiny seed packet and trowel and hand rake. Turns out they were made by a local artist who has a very cool method of sculpting the design in wax first, and then casting in metal. I’ve already started to look at Marty Magic’s other designs, but wanted to report to everyone in this group about my fun first!
The last present I opened was the biggest box. And it has turtles on it!!! It is a Christmas ornament, but not just any ornament - it has flashing lights on it. I had no idea this was a Thing, and I am so glad it is! It’s definitely on our tree and is merrily flashing away. The turtles are swimming all around the orb, so no matter which way you look at it you see a couple. You’re so thoughtful to realize that I don’t have many ornaments and I’m so glad to have this one. It will remind me of my very first Secret Santa for years.
I sat back feeling very satisfied and justanothermike reminded me that I hadn’t opened the card yet. The card answered the question I had about if my Secret Santa had made the jam - she had - and had a few other details that helped me appreciate the gifts more. The card itself is sooo pretty!!
I really love the beautiful surprises you sent me, @rhiannon8404 . Thank you so, so much for putting so much thought into what you got for a girl that you know very little about but figured out really well!!
slightly askew you are a wonderful person! I have the most lovely two shade of green hand made mug. It was made by one of **slightly askew’**s friends. Thank you so very much. To go into that mug I have not one but two boxes of Tazo Tea - one in Passion flavor and one Awake English Breakfast flavor. I will be putting one of those lovely teas in the mug today. But my gifts are not over. I have some absolutely scrumptious Lindor chocolate balls. Tea and chocolate – some of the best things in life. Thank you so very very much slightly askew your gifts are thoughtful and charming. I am looking forward to using the mug when I drink the tea – and I will not share the chocolate with the rest of the ReepiFamily because they are mine. Thank you again.
I am sorry I thought I had posted my sent post, but I see I didn’t. My gift is in the hands of FedEx and they said it would be there today, Friday.
Nothing’s arrived yet, and I’ll be heading off to visit parents early tomorrow morning, and post here usually comes late, so I doubt it’ll be delivered before I leave.
That’s not a problem, I actually kind of prefer it that way; it means I have something to look forward to when I get back
Hope you all have a lovely holiday!
Mark the package for Hockey Monkey as received! Wooooooo! I’ve had a few years of getting mine late or not at all so YAY! I think I am going to wait to open till at least…um…tonight.
I had so much fun deciding what to give you. I am delighted you enjoyed your gifts.
Thank you thank you for my Florida themed Secret Santa gifts! I don’t know your Doper name though so you will need to reveal yourself! First I opened the bubble wrapped bundle which contained a very protected glass ornament of a Pink Flamingo Golfer, then there were three little packages that each contained a pair of Mickey Mouse socks (Oh BOY!), then finally there was a round plastic cookie tin that was bulging and held closed with a gaggle old rubber bands. Very curious was I about this one. I never imagined it would hold an orange, two tangerines(?), and what I think is a grapefruit or a larger orange. It’s hard to tell because these fruits are home grown! No waxes or dyes to give me a clue. I used to hate grapefruit. Then I came to Love it and crave it, the started Lipitor, so no more grapefruit for me. I will however, cut and smell it and savor it as much as I’m allowed.
Thank you so much! I love it all! And the Christmas tree bag clips too!
OMG it was NOT a grapefruit! It was the sweetest orange I’ve ever had. Not even a hint of acidity! I’ve never tasted one so sweet before. I’m in awe! Also the others were delicious as well. burp
So glad that you like the mug! I like his work so much that I bought a similar one for myself. Hope you enjoy the tea and chocolate. Happy Holidays!
Glad you enjoyed the oranges – they are from my tree. They are real Florida fruit. The tangerines are from a friend’s tree. I could not find a good mouse ornament so please enjoy a the flamingo. I am just so glad that FedEx got the package there today! I thought my Dopper name was on the return address. If not Im sorry.
My package was supposed to have been delivered on the 21st, but when I tracked it that evening, it seemed delayed. Unfortunately I’m away from the tracking number, but will check again when I get home on the 24th.
Tripler
Hrm…
A Secret Santa gift from Hockey Monkey.
On the top was a beautiful card. With glitter!
You know, I love the Secret Santa event. Mostly Dopers appear as words on a monitor. But, when you participate in Secret Santa, it is like we now have a bond. I remember the gifts I sent and have received. And the folks that sent them. Gracias Silvorange!
Getting back to the Monkey’s package. The packing material was 197 (maybe an exaggeration) disposable shopping bags. The perfect size for my waste receptacle. But, more than I can use. However, I have a friend that has a store. And he will recycle them to his customers.
Digging deeper I found some delicious chocolate pecan pralines. I have been pigging out on them.
Then comes a fruit cake. I haven’t sampled it yet. I will take it to a friend’s house to share. The Monkey assures me that this is no ordinary fruit cake. Says that it is the “gold Standard” of fruit cakes. Produced in the Monkey’s hometown. I will report back after the sampling.
Gracias Hockey Monkey. We have now bonded. I have touched items you have touched.
And thank you for playing Secret Santa!
