“The NFL issued an explanation of the rule, noting that “twisting, turning or pulling” the facemask is a 15-yard penalty, but the penalty for an “incidental” grab of the facemask was eliminated before the 2008 season.”
ETA: The reasonable inference from this embedded quote is that the NFL believes it was an incidental grab.
It looks to me like the ball is knocked loose just as Rogers is stopping his pump; I think it is extremely close, and could reasonably be ruled a forward pass.
Regardless, I was wondering about the general question of the rules for contacting a QB, regarding when the protection changes for a QB who has fumbled, or thrown a pass/interception.
How much will the Cowpokes use their 3-headed rushing attack?
How soon will they abandon it if the Vikings’ rush defense lives up to its billing?
Will the Vikes be able to contain Jason Witten given their inability to cover Finley and Olsen?
Will the real Adrian Peterson please stand up?
Will DeMarcus Ware be able to crest Mt. McKinnie?
Which poison should the Dallas D pick?
Should the Vikes get a big lead, will Romo and company be able to mount a comeback, ala Rodgers and Flacco?
Will Favre throw The Big Interception or The Big Touchdown Pass?
Who will win?
The Vikings haven’t lost at home all season. The Dome helps the Vikings defense. Since Chilly has (reportedly) been giving Favre more freedom to audible and run the offense since the second half of the Bears game, the Vikings offense has been far more potent. Spreading out the offense and using the pass to set up the run has been more successful at creating space for AP.
A couple of those games the Vikings lost late in the season were without Rookie of the Year, Percy Harvin, who is already as dangerous a playmaker and YAC monster as there is among NFL receivers.
I think the think the Vikings need to be most concerned about is the Cowboys’ defensive line. McKinney, in particular, has gotten handled in some games lately, and Chilly needs to give him some help this time.
I think the Vikings will win, but it will be a dogfight. Favre will be zoned in, I think. He knows about all the talk that he’s going to melt down in the playoffs again. I think he’s going to want to shut those people up, and that this could well be the last post season he’ll ever get the opportunity to play in. He’s going to make the most of it.
Everyone I’ve been hearing and everthing I’ve been reading favors the Cowboys overwhelmingly. “Cowboys are hot!” blah, blah, blah “Vikings lost 3 of their last 4” blah, blah, blah “The Giants laid down for the Vikings” blah, blah, blah.
If so, well so be it. I’m just hoping the Cowboys are hearing this and become over confident thinking this will be a gimme.
The Vikings on paper have all the weapons necessary but haven’t necessarily looked the part throughout December.
I’m not worried about Favre and the passing game, I’m just hoping the running game and the defense bring their highly touted selves.
Harvin is the 19th ranked receiver in YAC with 276, behind such players like Earl Bennett, Pierre Garcon, and both Greg Jennings and Donald Driver. He’s 39th in total receiving yards, 92nd in average yards per catch, and 28th in touchdowns. He’s got a whopping 135 yards rushing (93rd), and 9 ypc (20th). He has 1156 total yards returning kicks (9th) for a 27.5 ypr (12th). He’s talented and dangerous, I guess. But you’re flat out wrong if you think he’s anywhere near the elite in the NFL. Which is a surprise to no one.
He barely got any playing time, and he still won Rookie of the Year. If you don’t think he’s already among the elite, you haven’t seen him play.
ETA, I specifically said “playmaker” for a reason. What puts him among the elite in my mind (besides his speed) is his ability to break tackles and turn short catches into big gains.
He’s not a primary receiver, so total receiving yards don’t mean anything. What Im saying is that once he’s got the ball in his hands, he’s as dangerous as anyone in the league. Donald Driver crack deleted
Same old, same old. You’ve made up your mind already, no amount of actual facts, real statistics, statistics that take into account his averages rather than just pure receptions, or any comparisons to any other receivers are going to sway you. That’s just who you are. Hopelessly unconcerned with reality.
I can think of at least 20 to 30 other receivers I’d rather have on my team than him. That kinda defeats the idea he’s elite.
Since I commented specifically on his playmaking ability, stats aren’t relevant. I’m only talking about his homerun potential once the ball is in his hands, and I would put him up there with anybody.
Why do you think he won ROY, if you think his talent is so mediocre?
Of course they aren’t Dio. Why no one would ever think that a “playmaker’s” ability could possibly be judged by actual production on the field. Whatever was I thinking.
Would you like a little straw woman and a 2.5 straw kids to go with that strawman?
Sorry, man. The game Harvin missed was against the Bengals, and the Vikings didn’t need him to win that one. He had a great game against Arizona the week prior, and played some against the Panthers.
That said, I love the kid’s hands and his toughness. He needs to touch the ball more often.
Percy Harvin is a deserving of OROY and he is definitely extremely talented. He is not elite, yet, but he is justt a rookie. He has the skills, IMO, to be in that group, but only time will tell.
He’s not just a receiver, though I’m sure you already know that. He’s a top kick returner, one that teams kick away from. Hell, even the sucky Packers were squib kicking instead of risking a return.
You take random stats, and select ones that make him look mediocre. Or you can look at the big picture and see what a fantastic player he is on 3 different fronts.
Or you can just look at the Pro Bowl roster, and see if he should be considered elite.
