Seattle and Eugene Dopefests (yep, short notice)

OK dopers, and apologies for lack of notice but as part of the grand tour I will be in Seattle on Thu 27th-Jul and Fri 28th Jul.
Departure on Sat morning for Eugene where Plan A was to meet Lancia but Plan B might adjust that.

@needscoffee has called to convene a catch-up at:
Circa Grill and Alehouse
Cnr California Ave and Admiral, West Seattle.

7:00pm Thursday or if by popular demand Friday.

I don’t know most of your locations but understand below are sorta around the locality.
@Johnny_L.A
@China_Guy
@Lancia

Kind regards
PT

I’m 100 or so miles north.

Thursday I’m working, and Friday I have a dental appointment. :frowning:

Come up to Birch Bay, and I’ll buy you a beer from the Beach Cat Brewing Company, about a mile down the beach from there.

I’m in Portland, OR. I haven’t made it up to Seattle yet. Also of note, I have cousin who lives in Eugene. I’m not sure what I have going on for those dates, but I might be in.

I live an hour south of Eugene, 7 hours south of Seattle. Driving to Seattle isn’t in the cards, alas.

However, if you come down this way (the I-5 corridor) I’m certainly up for meeting in Eugene / Roseburg / Grants Pass on Saturday or Sunday.

That’s what I thought and that suits me absolutely fine.
So your turn to figure out a venue! :nerd_face::nerd_face::nerd_face:

I think @Spectre_of_Pithecanthropus lives in Eugene as well. Let me ponder on some good meet-up places in the lower Willamette valley and I’ll post some suggestions in the AM.

I live near Eugene, and but for a new baby dog who is ruling my life just now, I’d be game to meet. But alas, it’s not in the cards.

However, if you’re looking for a place to meet in Eugene and you love good coffee, there is but one choice: Theo’s Coffee House. Note their hours are only until 1:00 p.m. most days, but if you’re having fun, it’s easy to adjourn to good beer taverns or even wine tasting at any number of wineries nearby.

Theo’s is Eugene personified. A very laid-back vibe, still half in the tie-dye era. Great coffee and excellent breakfasts, though the menu is limited. What they do they do well. And for reasonable prices.

Have fun! Wish I could join you.

Was in Seattle last week, and I‘ll be back on Saturday, so no luck with the Swiss-Australien meetup in Seattle.

Have fun!

OK, @needscoffee in the absence of higher bids, it looks like it’s just you and me tomorrow night. :upside_down_face:

Message me if there is any need to vary that arrangement.

Kind regards
PT

So after giving it some thought I will suggest meeting at one of two places in Eugene, one in Albany, and some in Roseburg depending on where and when we meet up:

For a morning/early lunch meetup Theo’s Coffee House that @Aspenglow mentioned would be a good choice. I’ve not been there but it appears to have good parking, is close to the interstate, and has good grub. The address is 199 W. 8th Avenue. There’s a public parking lot across the street.

One note about Theo’s: they are NOT open on Sunday, only Saturday, and then only 0830am to 1pm.

For lunch or dinner I suggest Sunriver Brewing in the Oakway Center, 329 Oakway Rd. There’s plentiful parking and I’m told both the food and the brews are great (I don’t drink at all so I have no opinion on that). There is also a nice Italian restaurant in the same building (Pastini’s) that I have indeed been to and can state with confidently is absolutely outstanding, if we wanted to meet somewhere a bit shinier. Both of these options are located in a large shopping center so there’s a large attached parking lot available. They’re open 11am to 10pm on Saturday, 11am to 9pm on Sunday.

If @Jack_Batty wanted to join but not drive all the way south to Eugene, Albany may be a possibility. There’s a Mexican restaurant in Albany called Los Dos Amigos, 2133 Santiam Highway S.E., that would be a good option. I’ve been to their Roseburg location (went there just last night, in fact) and while it isn’t stellar food it’s still pretty good. They have the typical Mexican restaurant drink selections: Mexican beers, margaritas, and similar cocktails. Again, I have no opinion on those as I don’t drink. They open at 11am both Saturday and Sunday and are open until 10pm on Saturday, 9pm on Sunday.

@penultima_thule, since you’re driving through the area your schedule will likely dictate which option we choose and when we’ll meet. If no other Dopers are able to join and you would rather do a meetup in Roseburg, I have some different suggestions that would work – I’m much more familiar with Roseburg than I am with Eugene.

For any of the above, either Saturday the 29th or Sunday the 30th works for me.

@Atamasama is in Seattle (or nearby, at least). As is @Smapti.

Definite drawback, if you’re planning to meet in the afternoon/evening. :wink:

Since I can’t join you (curses!), obviously whatever you all decide is fine with me! But I’ll second the vote for Pastini’s. And I see you’re in luck if you do choose to go there: Their summer menu includes one of the most fabulous desserts I’ve ever had, their Lemon Custard Cake. It’s way more like a pudding than a cake and it is so delicious I dream of it now and then. When enjoyed with a nice after dinner espresso, it’s a sublime (lemon?) experience.

Have fun and post pics, please!! :smiley:

Yes. I live in Auburn which is a half hour to an hour outside of Seattle (depending on traffic). Very swamped with work, in fact I’m posting this from my agency’s Sequim office. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

So I wish I could get together but the timing is bad.

By the way, I love Eugene. My wife’s best friend lives there so we go down now and then. It’s a nice, fun town.

Eugene is wonderfully silly. So it suits me down to the ground!

BTW these hours are for Sunriver Brewing. Pastini’s is open from 11:30am to 9:30pm on Saturday, 11:30am to 8:30pm on Sunday.

I could make it to either Albany or Eugene - as I said, I have a cousin in Eugene so I could kill a few birds with one road trip. If I do go, it will most likely be a last minute decision because I’m flighty as fuck.

NB: I think most people here don’t know how it’s pronounced. :wink:

Or Puyallup!

You may want to add “Eugene” or “Oregon” to the thread title now to attract more dopers.

I’ll be working both nights, alas.
