Seattle Doper Trivia -- the 2005 thread

Darth Viagra came out swinging with 24 (25?) correct answers. Elvis got the win with 28. Stoopid Elvis.

E. Thorp owes Lady Cheek a tomato juice for insisting on…something, I can’t remember what. But besides that, we didn’t turn down any right answers. Kudos to everyone (myself, Saltire, E. Thorp, Lady Cheek and my friend Jason) for pulling several correct answers out of nowhere for no apparent reason other than that they might have heard it somewhere.

The location of the Picasso Museum. There’s a famous one in Paris, I swear! I’ve been there. But the answer they were looking for was Barcelona.

You’re both right, but googling “Picasso museum” links to the Barcelona museum first. A poorly phrased question? How unusual. Congrats on decent placement!

She may show up at the G&D at some point this summer, once we’re able to sit outside away from the smokey dinge of the pub itself. That’s another advantage of the Emigrant – much nicer air inside – though I miss Cindy and John. The G&D doesn’t feature the world’s oddest patty melt, though. (No bun, Swiss cheese, served with a honkin’ big wedge of iceberg lettuce drizzled with ranch dressing and bacon.)

This sounds like a lot of fun, actually.

Whenever you guys are planning one of these things again, I’d like to go.

Well, Pensandfeathers, how about tonight? We do trivia at the George & Dragon most every Tuesday, so if tonight’s too soon, you can plan for next week. Post here on the thread to let us know you’re coming, and we’ll figure out some way for you to recognize us. I should start keeping my Cat-in-the-Hat hat handy for things like this.

We are doing trivia tonight, right, gang?

Looks like we’re in. Lady Cheek’s friend Lea will probably be joining. I’m trying to ask E. Thorp, but can’t find him right now, so I’ve no idea about him.

I know the odds are greatly against Pensandfeathers wanting to attend tonight, but I feel the duty to provide for the remote possibility.

We usually (but not always, depending on how packed the place is when the first of us gets there) sit on the left side of the barroom, as you face it from the door. On the upper level, most likely. I am large and 40ish with dark hair. I’m wearing a blue short-sleeved shirt. Aguecheek is slim, 30ish, and devilishly handsome (so he tells me–he’s posted this opinion of himself a couple of times in this thread, I believe). His wife is a redhead in her early 30s. If you can’t find us, ask the quizmaster to point you to the Smurf people (we usually use a smurf pun in our team name nowadays).

Well, obviously yesterday didn’t work…but I can totally swing for next week.

Sweet!

Look for the bump sometime around Tuesday morning, that’s when we usually start bugging people to show up.

Almost totally off-topic, except that it is trivia and we were trying to figure this out last night at the pub: “The Warrior” was by Scandal, featuring Patty Smyth. So the door guy was right about her as the singer, but I was sure it was by a group, not a solo act. I can remember the video, with war paint on her face and the obligatory ripped sweatshirt.

And here’s your bump!

I’m almost certain to be attending. Anyone else?

We’re in.

I tried to hold off, just to see if anyone else would bump the thread. But no, I’m apparently the only one who remembers that it’s Tuesday.

I’m planning to hit trivia fairly late (for me), around 7 or even 7:30. Anyone else in?

Keep checkin’ in. I’ve been trying to confirm with the Goode Ladye Wyfe for some time now, but she’s not answering her e/mail.

Signs point to yes, but I wanna make sure the boss agrees.

Speak of the devil - she’s says “Okay!” So we’ll be there. Anyone else?

inkysplotchy, I know you’re reading this. Come…JOIN US!

Pensandfeathers?

Last Tuesday of the film festival. Gird your loins, for ?! and I shall be returning soon.

Dude, there’s only one person on this earth who can induce me to wrap gold leaf around my bits, and it ain’t…wait. Oh! Gird!

Yeah, I can do that.

But some not as soon as others. I’ve got class next week – last one! – then I’m back in.

And it’s good!

Deep Smurf, commonly known as Saltire, inkysplotchy, Aguecheek, Lady Cheek, Jason, and Carrie (2 friends without fun li’l screen names) came out with the win at 32 points, beating 5 other teams who only managed 31.

Props to everyone again for pulling some stuff out of nowhere to give us that extra little edge.

Jeers to Spear Britney, who, like always, was up at the counter contesting the score when I went to pick up the loot. They got smacked down this time.

Heh.

…and inkysplotchy and I will be at the Irish Emigrant tonight, since I’m in the mood for trivia and make a Tuesday night game until next week.

Anyone else interested in showing up? Stop on by. We’ll be there trying to whip the house at trivia bingo.

Otherwise, see y’all next week.
