Oh, thank you. Please tell my Santa - or if you’re listening - it’s quite all right, I’m happy to have it whenever! I was just afraid it was lost in the mail or something.
Damn you woman !!! I was gonna go with the whole " Try not to be bitter. The other sock’s in the dryer" routine, but you leapt into the fray !
Oh, pfft. Not one, but two socks, with a cowgirl theme. Also Boss Woman lip balm, a Don’t Mess With Texas magnet (hehe, that takes me back), a maple candy man, and the Austin Chronicle. Oh, and BarkBQ dog treats. Apparently, Austin has a bakery which caters exclusively to dogs.
Me like me Texas prezzies.
When I got home today, there was a package at the door from **Twickster/B]!
It contained a beautiful card, some really good chocolate truffles (I’ve never had those before…they’re great), a pen with a drawing of the liberty bell on it, a stocking filled with toys for my puppy, and five books.
Thank you so much for the awesome gifts. The puppy is currently chewing on his squeaky bone, and I’m going to start reading the books once he goes to sleep (I think I’ll start with The Axemaker’s Gift first. The summaries sound very interesting, so I can’t wait to read them all. I love getting presents, especially books. This was a very nice surprise to end a strange and sucky day.
StarvingButStrong, you’re not the only giftless person left. But a quick check showed that her Santa came into the thread and said that the gift was mailed out. I’m giving your Santa one more day before I assign you a replacement. I can’t say that he/she doesn’t have something on the way, but I haven’t heard from him/her since sign up.
Ah, good – that was the one I was waffling about whether to include or not. I enjoyed it, but I read a lot of extremely weird shit. (The Lippman, btw, is a book I got from crankyasanoldman in a book exchange a couple of years ago, so I took special delight in passing it on to another Doper.)
Enjoy! Happy New Year! Thanks again for organizing the exchange!
Glad to here mine is on its way. My Santee is in Canada, and I sent it out on December 17th. They said 4 - 7 business days, but of course, the USPS has no control over how long it takes after it goes over the border.
Gee, you mean I drove a Doper clean off the board? :o
Anyway, thank you for doing all the following up and checking and all. There’s a reason no one volunteers to run these exchanges a second time: what looks like a simple enough matter turns into all sorts of aggravation when people don’t/can’t follow through.
Has ANYONE heard from BrattiAtti ? I know her sister posted that the package was recieved , but I have no idea if she opened it when she got home.
Good news! I got home from work today to find a delivery notification from the post office. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it there to pick it up just yet, but hopefully I’ll get it tomorrow.
Thank you Barbarian! I think that’s who I’m thanking at any rate - you didn’t include your Doper name, but the dates (and description of the box ;)) add up. The magnet’s already on my fridge, the playing cards are awesome, and I’ve been meaning to get a new coffee mug for at work, so it’s perfect.
I’m glad you enjoy it. Did you notice me pointing out where I live on the box of cards?
Yes, I did. I thought that was cute, but apparently forgot to mention it last night.
Just thought I’d bump this…still no joy on my SS present! It’s getting delivered to my home address (I’m currently at Uni), but my parents say nothing has arrived.
I’ll check in when it does. Or when this thread sinks to the depths again, I’ll revive it!
Still nothing from BrattiAtti. This is really disappointing, as half the fun to me is hearing from my giftee if they like what I got them.
Oh well. I enjoyed recieving my wonderful gifts from Bricker, anyway… drinking coffee from my SDMB cup right now !
Haven’t got mine either, still waiting.
Well, I’m still giftless, but I just heard from our devoted Omega that a substitute Santa has been assigned and is already at work.
Yay for Substitute Santa!
And absolutely I will post about my present, within minutes of receiving it! Because I totally agree with PapSett that hearing how your gift has been received is huge part of the joy of exchanges like this.
So – anyone out there who got a present and hasn’t posted so much as a “Thanks, it was nice” — SHAME ON YOU!
And a second SHAME ON YOU! to those who signed up and yet didn’t send a present. Yes, Life Happens, but unless some really extreme Life Happened – like being abducted by aliens  – surely you could have posted a “Sorry, can’t do it” message or emailed Omega instead of leaving your recipient to wait and wonder? I mean, it’s now a month since the Santees were assigned.
Still no love here, either. My only update was last week, when Omega Glory said that mine had been sent.
**Averie **have you gotten yours? 'Cause I haven’t gotten mine.
Omega Glory, do you know who ours are? Because I’m feeling really unloved now.
Yeah, I’ve been wondering about the etiquette of this situation. Anyone who wanted to could take the list of participants Omega Glory posted long ago, and then cross off the names of the people who have been publicly thanked.
Unfortunately, the names left would not only be those who have dropped out of sight without sending a present, they would also include the unfortunate ones who DID send presents but had a recipient who didn’t bother to say thanks. So not only don’t they get the pleasure of being thanked, they would be suspected of not even playing.
Since we seem well past the point of ‘happy surprise of finding out who your SS is’, perhaps Omega Glory should just go ahead and spill the beans for the exchanges that don’t seem to have gone through properly.
Like:
AAA says he mailed a present to BBB. BBB hasn’t posted about getting it, but also hasn’t complained about NOT getting it.
CCC says he mailed a present to DDD, but DDD says he hasn’t gotten it yet.
EEE was supposed to mail a present to FFF, but EEE hasn’t said anything and FFF says no present received.
(I think that covers all the unclear cases.)
On further thought: if that seems too much like pillorying the individual cases, how about just posting the entire list of who was assigned to whom? Those of us involved can look up our individual cases, and the vast majority who aren’t interested would ignore the whole list.
Yeah, it blows the idea of “Secret” santa, but the Secrecy was supposed to be temporary anyhow, just until the present was opened. I don’t think it was some sacred shield of identity so someone could have the fun – getting the present – without following through with the sending a present/thanking for the present aspects.
I agree with everything **StarvingbutStrong **said. Perhaps some public shaming is in order! And I don’t really mean that in a mean way, but…
Look, if you can’t afford to send it or whatever, at least just come in here and 'fess up. Really, I won’t bite your head off, but at least I’d know. We’ve all had money issues in our lives!
