I agree with Mika and Starving. I recieved some very nice gifts , and love them, but I have no idea if my gifts I sent were liked or not. This was the very first Secret Santa I have ever participated in , and I found that rude and disappointing.
I am on a very limited budget myself… as in, unemployed for almost 2 years now, and living off insurance money, which is rapidly dwindling. I went a bit over the alloted $10 , not much , but a little, and would have loved to bought more. I went to THREE different stores trying to find something that was on her list, and was not able to , within my price range, but I didn’t think I did THAT bad. See, giving is FUN to me. I enjoy giving gifts to friends, and a big part of that fun for me is knowing if I done good.
Sorry for the rant, but this has been eating at me.
Hi folks, it’s been a busy time, so sorry that I haven’t been here in awhile. If you want to know who your Santa was, let me know and I’ll email it to you (at this point I’m emailing Anaamika, StarvingButStrong and Pretend my name is Witty) I’m not really sure of the ettiquette of this kind of thing is either, but I looked into the last year’s thread and didn’t see any names being posted for the whole board to see, so we’ll stick to email for now. Anaamika, Avarie537, and Pretend my Name is Witty, your packages are supposed to be on the way, but I am emailing potential backup Santas now for the three of you. As I said earlier, the people who sent to Canda also received from Canada, so that could be the hold up for Anaamika and Avarie537’s gifts, and of course Pretend had a Santa who was from a different country too (since he’s in the UK). Perhaps you’ll all be lucky and get two packages.
When I get the information, I’ll email you all with the date that your original gift was mailed, and you can decide whether you’d rather wait for it, or whether you think the gift was lost in customs or something so you’d prefer another. Hopefully we can get this wrapped up pretty soon, with a good outcome for everyone.
Does this mean you’ve already emailed the three of us? If so, mine hasn’t arrived.
I wasn’t sure if you still had my email, so I sent you a message via the address listed here – but maybe that is an obsolete address? Would you rather I send a message to the address set up for the Secret Santa project?
Yes, I emailed everyone on that list last night. Your’s didn’t bounce back, but I’ll send it again. While the email in my profile isn’t obsolete, I only check it about once a week. I’ve been checking the santa.sdmb email more often, so it’s best to send things to that one.
Thank you, Omega Glory for being so cool and helpful with everything, and organising this whole affair!
I am flying back up to Uni tomorrow, I had assumed my package would have arrived by now so I’m afraid I’ll either have to get my folks to forward any potential gifts or wait another month or so before I can report back. The first sounds better to me, and to my santa I’m sure!
I haven’t received an e-mail from you yet, I’m afraid but then I haven’t received the last e-mail that you sent. I’ll try adding you to my contacts list incase gmail’s throwing it away for some reason.
I’ve got faith that it’s an unfortunate set of coincidences that have lead to my as-of-yet giftless status, and I’m holding onto the hope that my postie will find the parcel and put it through my door tomorrow (even though I wont be there!).
I hope everyone’s presents find their destinations, and that everyone gets at something special.
There were at least two mail truck accidents over the holidays where mail was lost. One was in California, I think, the other was back east.
If you sent a gift that hasn’t arrived, you might check with the PO, to see if your gift is in a river somewhere.
Just a thought.
I apologize. I’m a slacker. (And after being so proud of getting my gift out in time, too. ) Anywho… PapSett, the gift was great. I plan on using the coffee as soon as I can dig out my coffee brewing machine-thing (long story short: first one broke, so we reverted to the espresso machine… well, [IMHO, of course] coffee beans are not the same as espresso beans; why waste them on a finished product that will only be so-so?).
The needlepoint pack was cool. I was trying to remember if I’d said I like those things. It was the definite high-point of the box. I’ll probably start playing with it tonight.
The card was cute, too. It made my brother, who is 10 years and very much into that kind of humor, smile.
So, yeah, thank you for the gifts, and I’m sorry for not responding sooner.
Okay, that’s strange. Do you have another address that you’d like me to send information to? This last email that I sent told you that your Secret Santa was MissTake, who posted to the thread that she’d sent the package on Dec. 17th.
No problem, to all the folks who’ve said thanks. It’s been (mostly) fun, taking part in my first SDMB community thing.
Good ! I’m glad you liked it. You did say you liked Disney and cartoon needlepoint; I went to 3 stores trying to find a Disney or cartoon needlepoint kit. Nada. Lots of Disney counted cross stitch kits, but not needlepoint. So I was a little worried about that.
IOW, the present from my Substitute Secret Santa (Rocking Chair) arrived today, and I made out like a bandit!
The biggest item was this large stuffed snowman. Not an ordinary snowman, but one with an attitude: a mohawk made of carrots, earrings, a (carrot) nose ring, and a definitely up-to-no-good leer on its face.
It cracks me up each time I look at it.
Other neato stuff, too:
A pair of candle holders, decorated with reindeers in red & white.
A whole box of tea light candles for the holders, in Mandarin Cranberry. They smell wonderful even unlit!
A set of metallic gel pens – won’t my grocery lists look uber-cool in shades of gold and silver and copper?
I love them.
And my cat got pressies, too, in her own little gift bag! A darling little mouse who has already been subjected to multiple violent attacks AND a laser pointer which Toby finds fascinating but baffling. I’ve already made her spin in tight circles to atone for the mouse abuse.
The final lovely touch is that all the wrappings and such were Christmas themed, making it really feel like one last belated but lovely day of the Holiday season.
Thank you soooo much, RockingChair! You went way over and above, and it really lifted my mood after waiting so long on my first Santa.
the snowman makes me think of calvin and hobbes. he def. has a look about him. the store i bought him in had a name the snowman contest amoungst the staff. the came up with : frostbite. i was told it is a male snowman, no doubt about it. i’m thinking staff od’d on the egg nog a bit.
i hope you and toby have much fun and quality lazer time together.
I wouldn’t normally do this, but Pretend my name is Witty, you have waited long enough. I am your replacement santa. Your gift has been found and will be sent some time within a week. You may have to think of it as a Happy Spring gift because it is shipping internationally and it may take a while to get there.
Don’t lose hope you are getting something…finally.
Obviously it’s not the receiving that’s the biggest part of this experience, but it will be very nice to get something and nicer to tell someone they got just the right thing!
You can be my Secret Santa in shining sleigh!
There’s a few things that I didn’t manage to get in time for my Santee’s present, if you could mail me your address I’d really love to show my appreciation for being so cool.
Okay, it looks like we might finally be wrapping this up! Everyone who wrote in, or emailed saying that they didn’t get a gift will have another on the way soon. Remember to let us know what you got! Perhaps the orignals will come eventually or be returned to the Santas.
Note for future organizers: It might be best if the Canadians are in their own pool instead of being lumped in with the U.S. A couple of packages appear to have gotten lost on their way over the boarder.
