Seen Any Good Movies Lately? A Cinematic MMP

::Pointedly ignores Soapy:: :stuck_out_tongue:

sniff. (one lone tear drop runs meaningfully down my cheek.)

Awww… I sent you a present on Pet Society to cheer you up. :smiley:

It isn’t more poop, is it? (Dashes off to Facebook)

ETA: oooh you (shakes fist)

Bellydance is really damn aerobic. And, Smartie, I just read that post, and I will never ever complain about grocery prices or grocery shopping again. Probably. Cripes.
Speaking of bellydance, normally I hate Tribal Fusion style, but she’s a great dancer.

And this is silly, fun, and makes me miss clubbing a bit.

[Insert whistling innocently smiley here]

Home , work was OK. I like this store.

LiLi, that made me miss clubbing, and I never went clubbing. Gay ex-roomie was into industrial ,though.

LOUNE, am I your friend? I have trouble with those pesk IRL names sometimes.

Sorry about dad, Rebo. I had a panic attack from meds once, no fun.

Because otherwise everyone will show up dressed as Furries, LARPers, and Klingons.

Yeah gotti, we are all keeping an eye on Mount Redoubt. I was living in the village when last it blew, and it was awful. The air was full of ash, looking out across the bay everything was hazy, and everyone was coughing and having breathing issues. I am hoping that we don’t have the fallout we did the last time around, since it looks as if she’s going to blow again. Yee and haw.

Speaking of the village, smartie the link to the mudflats blog is cool, and what I have read so far paints an accurate picture of life in The Bush. When I lived in The Bay (Larsen Bay, a village on the west side of the island) my grocery shopping was first getting in a single prop plane (Cessna 207) and taking a 20+ minute ride (that was in good weather, which you don’t get much of on an island in the Gulf of Alaska) and flying to Kodiak. I would take a taxi to Safeway and get between 6 to 8 heaping shopping carts of groceries and other necessities. After sorting the food into boxes (frozen, perishable, etc.) and writing my name, phone number, destination and airline on every box I would call the airport and they would send a shuttle to pick up the groceries, and I would make my rounds to see a few friends, hit a couple of bars and the jug store to get alcohol*, before heading back to the airport. That is if the weather had held, if it had come down or blown up (rural weather jargon) then I either bunked on a friend’s sofa or else got a room at the Shelikof. Then I chartered the 207 because it was cheaper than paying the freight. When we arrived at the village skiffman would be waiting with the 4 wheeler (ATV) and we would load as many boxes as we could up, and he would take the loads home while I kept watch over the boxes we couldn’t fit in. Once home again there was the fun of unpacking all of the loot and putting it all away. That evening dinner always store meat of some sort! It’s so nice to be living in town where I can go to Safeway any time I like - between 7:00 am until midnight!

rebo you are a good daughter! I hope that your dad is able to find some ease of mind, I understand how he feels, and panic attacks are just purely hell to endure. (yes, I have a script for xanax, and sometimes just knowing it’s there gets me through a rough spot) I sure hop that your dad gets a break from the physiological symptoms and has some happy, peaceful time with you and yours.

Arg, the dentist’s receptionist just called, they have room for me tomorrow at 2:00. :frowning: I was mentally prepared for the 2nd of February. I also have water aerobics tomorrow evening, which is gonna be just so much fun after a root canal.

It has been hours since I began this, and if I don’t post now it will probably get discarded, so, with catching up to do still, I will say ta for now.

*Larsen Bay is a damp village, meaning that one may bring alcohol into the village, but selling it in the village is illegal.

Also, I have noticed a few MMPer’s turning up in Facebook as well. It’s a good thing! :slight_smile:

There. Taxes filed. How did people do this before the internet?

Rebo, how’s your Dad? Is he feeling more comfortable, not so anxious? Hugs to you, 'cause I know it’s hard.

Kai, great posts! C’mon…Cessnas! Coasties! Navigational Hazards! The most remote I’ve been was a 30 minute drive to a grocery store. Glad some of the weight is lifting. Continued thoughts for you and Lucy. Also, tell Mt. Redoubt to keep a cork in it.

Nava, props to you. I would have impaled my forehead on something by now. I wish I could buy you a trout farm. :wink:

mbg, I would bet that your wife is mad because she really, really wanted to watch a movie with you.

Bobbio, yay for justice. Now comes the hard part–actually collecting the money.

Holy car crap, Pie! You must have a ton 'o snow!

soapie, about Pie’s FB gift…was it flaming?
So weather’s fine, finally. Almost felt springlike today and I swear I caught a whiff of manure on the drive to Campbell River. That means it must be warming up. (Humor me.) Stayed tuned for summer, when I complain about methane poisoning.

It was mr.j’s birthday yesterday but it was a quiet one since it was his first of seven days off and he didn’t get home until almost 4 pm. His BC present is a new micro-helicopter which was supposed to be in the shop today. However, a certain someone (ahem, mr.j) didn’t phone ahead to make sure it arrived, resulting in a lovely but completely unnecessary 90 minute drive.

I’ve been feeling fairly edgy since Monday night and I had a very brief panic attack yesterday but I’ve addressed the underlying issue and I’m back to (what passes for) normal. Off to the doc next Wednesday

We’re off to spend some gift cards tomorrow. I need a little shelf for above my stove for the salt bowl and pepper mill and who knows what other shiny things will attract my eye. Then a pit stop at Wally World for the boring stuff like laundry soap, dish soap, bleach, fabric softener, ZZzzzzzz. Oh, and new wiper blades for the truck! They’re waaay overdue for replacement.

An armful of Woos! and Boos! as needed. I’ve got a call in to the trout farm, too.

Well, I always asked my Dad if he would “help” me with them, lol!

Thanks conscience, and I am glad that you enjoyed my post. I will be writing more soon, it’s time to go out and get some new eagle photos soon. When we went out the road for dog food and birthday beverages I lost count of how many eagles were perched in the trees lining the road and circling just above Pillar Mountain. I need to organize my old photos, you know, the old fashioned kind that you sent out to have printed? Yeah, and I have a bunch from the village and the area out there to scan in. They will be shared.

Ah, skiffman just walked in and is sitting at my elbow as if he wants my attention or something! :slight_smile: More later!

Up and caffeinating - heading in to work shortly. It’s still icy on the sidewalks and side streets, but what can you do? Have to get to work, so am waiting until it’s a bit lighter out so that I can at least see where I’m going. :eek:

Sending good thoughts out to all who need them. Be careful and stay safe!

Blurf. Bad case of the donwannas because I didn’t sleep well. Maybe I can leave early?

GT

Up and off to work.

See, my impulse is to impale other people’s foreheads, but that’s illegal and I don’t think you can play WoW in prison. I’ve already told the story of how, when I was about three, I once started banging my head against the wall…
stopped after a couple bangs…
put my hand on the wall…
slapped the wall…
stared at it thoughtfully…
stood up, picked up the red cushion from Mom’s armchair, sat back down where I’d been, placed the cushion in an appropiate spot and went on banging my head. Against the cushion, of course: I may have a temper but there’s no masochistic tendencies here. None at all.

My poor New Coworker (who also plays WoW, but we’re on different sides and different servers) is right now undergoing a meltdown over the database structure. He’s the one who has to prepare old data to load into the new monster. It’s a good thing Sheboss isn’t here, because I don’t think a judge would understand enough about databases to see why she deserved it. Actually, do you guys think a good lawyer would be able to claim that, in a case of Bodily Assault with Grievous Harm involving two database designers, only a jury formed by database designers can be used?

This is the saga of small claims court yesterday. I hope y’all are current on this little soap opera, because for once I’m not going to recap everything. However, if you ask, I will tell.

VWife was the big driver behind the suit, because she was the one wronged the most. We filed for damages on the following basis:

  • $130 for the housecleanings (2) she took payment for and never delivered;
  • $260 in punitive damages for fraud, allowable under NC law;
  • $120 for the value of Percocets stolen, based on a cost of $1 a dose and an estimated 120 taken;
  • $80 for reneging on a change in cleaning schedule;
  • $1460 in general pain and suffering, to bring the total filing to $2k (don’t check my math).

Before she fried her brain on crack, Sharon had the IQ of a pallet of bricks, and it only got worse with the drugs. Of course, she had a small herd of calves over the $2k we filed for; that was our intent. VWife was a little naive in thinking she’d get it all, I was not. You won’t get it if you don’t ask, there was a large component of negotiation for damages, and we were in the driver’s seat.

We walked in with a small binder of paper, which included letters from VWife’s pain doctor, home-grown affidavits we generated and had notarized, and so forth. Sharon had nothing.

Vwife laid out her case, and I was proud of her. She stuck to her points, her voice quivered but she never cried, and she never let Sharon derail her. She explained the stolen money, the missing Percocet, how we had a witness who saw Sharon in the house when she was not scheduled, and the basis of the punitive damage points.

All Sharon could do was mumble, tell lies, and interfere.

“I don’t have any drug convictions.”

We would then counter with a public record search that showed she had 2 convictions for possession within the last 2 years. The entire case went that way.

“I don’t see what that has to do with this case.”

I countered with, “It impugns your believability.” She looked puzzled, and the magistrate shot me a look of ‘he gets it!’

The case resolved with the magistrate ruling in our favor on the money theft and the fraud damages, disallowed that $80 claim (I fully expected that), and said he could not rule on the drug theft because we did not make our case. Then, in a move that surprised us, the magistrate said that regarding the drug theft, we had an open criminal complaint and he could not rule while that was ongoing. VWife asked him to dismiss that without prejudice, and he agreed.

Sharon, in the meantime, only heard ‘dismiss’ and ‘$491, including the court costs.’ She thought she had won, because she wasn’t having to pay us $2k.

The court gave her 10 days to settle with us. We, in turn, told her 30 would be fine. We saw her last headed for home, mumbling under her breath about taking money away from her daughter while she was headed for rehab. :rolleyes: Neither of us are holding our breath waiting for that check to come.

Sucks to be you, Sharon, but this is all your doing, not ours. We didn’t hold a gun to your head and restart your crack habit. If only you agreed to Joe Brown, the appearance fee would have covered the judgement.

Fun day in court, Bobbio! I’m glad you won. Do I understand that you will be pursuing a criminal complaint against her as well?

Dad is better. He slept 4 hours in his bed last night, and was fine this morning. Thanks for all your good wishes!

I’m so swamped (NOS!) here at work.

::zooooom::

We filed the criminal complaint the same day as the civil. I doubt it will go anywhere, because it’s just noise in the system compared to the other stuff she’s charged with.

Yay for ReboDad!

I’ve missed the last day and a half of the MMP. It’s forecast time at work again, and although I don’t hate it as much as I used to, it still sucks all of my time for a few days. I’ll try to catch up and come back to post soon!

Blurf.

Quick drive-by… stuck in meeting hell for most of today.

Glad that Sharon got at least a partial judicial ass-whuppin’, Vundie. It may not be $2K, but at least it’s over and done with.
