Seen Any Good Movies Lately? A Cinematic MMP

Well… crud.

Ignore that it’s a nice sunny day with blue sky and tweeting birds. Ignore the breeze and the gently swaying palm trees. Looks nice, but it is only 52 degrees, so maybe it’s not such a great day to be outside and lounging.

There’s work to be done.

Of course, it could be worse. There’s no blizzards, ice storms or pregnant volcanos to worry about here. <Looks around, and notices that the pictures are all hanging straight, and wonders if we’re about due for a quake>

I had the bright idea of hooking up a headset to my phone here to make meetings much more pleasant while telecommuting. So, I get a headset, and that’s when I realize the dark side to collecting old telephones.

I own only one phone that has a full 12-button touch-tone keypad and modular connectors for the receiver, and it’s a Snoopy phone. Most of my phones have rotary dials, so they won’t let me enter the conference number. Most of my touch-tone phones have 10-button keypads, so I can’t press the star key, which is needed to enter the conference number. My current desk phone has 12 buttons, but a hard-wired receiver so I can’t plug in the headset. Looks like I need to hit some garage sales and find a “normal” phone.

Glad that worked out for you VBob. I know you didn’t get all of the $ but hey, you wouldn’t have seen all of it anyway.

Spaz - I only skimmed your post because I am also waiting on an answer on my financial aid and I have reached the point of “what’s in the envelope? is it thick or thin? will I have to pull out of school? oh crap ohcrapohcrap.” All I am asking for is $2K - two thousand stupid dollars. I don’t need money to live on and I don’t need housing. I just need tuition. And I’m a good investment!! I have straight A’s in the classes that I am in on a wing and a prayer right now anyway!

I haven’t been coming through here lately because I’ve been in school but I think it’s paid off! I have 100 in psychology, 100+ in physiology (bonus questions), 96 in anatomy and nothing in sociology yet. I am so loving school. My only problem is that when I get into a class I get to thinking “oh this is so interesting I should switch my major to biochemistry” then “maybe I should do research in criminology” or “I want to study histology/oncology/underwater basket weaving” or whatever we are focusing on for that 15 minutes of class. Everything is just so interesting!

Ah well, I think I’ll stick with my plan. Until it changes. And now, off to work at the bar…

I probably missed it somewhere along the way, shelli, but what is your plan/major?

Thanks for the suggestions a couple days ago, muppet, but I’m feeling curmudgeonly about the whole 3-days-notice-before-a-pot-luck thing so I’m just not going to go. I know that if I did, everyone would be asking where my cake is or why didn’t I bring a cake and I don’t feel like dealing with that. I’d end up snapping and saying “If you gave me more than 3 #&(@&* days maybe you’d get your #*(@ cake!” and I shouldn’t alienate my coworkers like that.

We went to the orchestra last night for the 2nd of the educational series, which involves the first half being a lecture/talk and the second have being a performance. Last night was Mendelssohn because his 200th birthday is coming up. I didn’t know that he, like Mozart, was a child prodigy or that he died young, also like Mozart. I also didn’t know that he had a sister, Fanny, who was also a composer, at least until she got married and was forced to stop. Interesting stuff.

Forecast stuff is going better than it ever has before, but it’s still stressful just because of the short timeframe. I did realize though that the good part is that the answer is given. Unlike most of the stuff I do, for the forecast, I have the final number, I just have to keep tweaking what I do until I get the final number. (No, I’m not cooking the books, I’m just taking weekly numbers and spreading them across the 7 days for a daily forecast. In the end, all of the days have to add up to the same total as the weekly file that I was given.) Most other stuff that I do, I just have to hope I did it right or ask other people for a gut check to make sure the numbers look right, and in the end there’s still a question of whether I did everything right. But in this case, I know when it’s wrong because the numbers don’t tie out to the input I was given. Frustrating at times, but at least it’s very cut and dried.

Another day of Teh Sux, starting with a four-hour company meeting offsite this morning. Blah, blah, blah, blahbitty, blah. :stuck_out_tongue:

Now it’s raining and the temp is dropping.

bobbio, congrats on the court win.

kai, I can’t imagine that kind of a shopping trip.

li-li, I liked the second set of dancers. They were more imaginative.

I am glad Thursday is almost over and tomorrow is Firday!

Tupug

Quick drive-by today. Supper is almost ready. I’ll inhale it, then dash off to class. Not that it matters - today was boring, but sunny.

Glad tomorrow is Firday.

Hugs all around!

Yay for winning the judgment, Bobbio. Even if you never see any of the money; your point was made and it’s a matter of public record.

I believe it should be required for data base designers, or at least data integrity fundamentalists, to be the jury in that case, Nava.

::waves at all the drive-by-ers::

Forgot to comment on your shopping trip description, kai. I can’t even imagine living with that set-up for an extended period of time. (Well, I can, but it hurts.)

Home at a reasonable hour. We still have snow, but none of it is new, so things seem to be clearing up.

Anyone want to host on Monday???

GT

Howdy Y’all! Been a funfilled day.

I went in early this mornin’. 7 am even. I left work at 5:30 pm and had somebody tryin’ to make me feel guilty about leavin’ and not bein’ willin’ to come in tomorrow.:rolleyes: Breaks today consisted of two five minute runs (literally run before I pee on myself!) and about 10 minutes to eat lunch. I am so daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang glad I won’t be there tomorrow cause it’d be more of the same. I feel no compunction to go in on a day off just cause there was not enough thought put into plannin’ the fact that two hundred people need to get certified in some customer service stuff by the end of the day Saturday. Boo and hoo. I’s off Firday and Sattiday.

Herein endeth the bitchin’.

Anywho, I came home, made myself a sammich (yep I’m alone again. Poor ol’ y’all know who had a meetin’ tonight), ran myself a nice hot bath in my whirpool bathtub, poured myself a glass of wine and had a nice long soak. AHHHHHHH!!!

In the words of the immortal Buddy aka John Astin from Night Court:

“But I’m feeling much better now!”

Good story there BBBobbio. Glad ya got justice.

kai I’m guessin’ back then you didn’t run out for a quart of milk and a loaf of bread very often.

taxi show up with a Sara Lee cheesecake and some frozen strawberries. That’ll show 'em!

Everybody else, yay, boo, hugs, trouts, ick, yum, etal.

OK, maybe I’m exceptionally dim, but I’ve read through the entire thread and still have no idea what the hell an MMP is. :frowning:

Massive Monkey Poo?

:d&r:

MMP- Monday Morning Post

Every Monday we start a thread to keep all the catching up ramblings and newsy bits in one place. They often have a theme which is promptly forgotten by page 2.

ETA: Pie! You are on a poo roll…

MMP, in Dope terms, is the Monday Morning Post. Originally started every Monday by RueDeDay, it was a place for themed (or not) ramblings of an ultra mundane matter. (more info in the board’s official glossary in the About This Board forum)
For the last two or so years, however, hosting duties have rotated among us regulars and once in a while a newbie.
There are a few unwritten rules -

  1. your presence here automatically makes you a cool kid
  2. sacreficial offerings of chocolate go to FairyChatMom
  3. at some point, everyone gets at least one nickname (many of us have several)
    That’s about it.

(perhaps one of us should write a Wiki entry…)

Go Rosie, being first on four!

Congrats BBBBobbio and V-Wife on the judgement against Sharon, although I must admit that I had been looking forward to seeing it all unfold on Judge Joe Brown. Ah well … crossing my fingers that you’ll get your monies, but not holding my breath on it either.

Yikes, kaiwik, it sounds like just grocery shopping was an extremely expensive thing. I realize that groceries are already over priced. :frowning: This reminds me that a co-worker was talking about venison today and said that he took a deer to a local butcher who dressed it and stuff for him–he also made venison sausage for him, but they had to add pork to it cause the venison wasn’t fatty enough. Also, venison was used on Top Chef last night and it supposedly got “overcooked” (this was during a cook-off where they had just 20 minutes to make their dish). I don’t know how it could get overcooked in such a short time frame, though. Isn’t venison kinda … tough? Doesn’t it need to be marinated or something first? I’ve never cooked it.

Okay, I know for sure that I’m forgetting things! LOL At least tomorrow is Firday! Hey, speaking of … wonder where Haze has been?! Hope she’s having a good time.

According to Mountain Friend’s Hunter Brother, venison is very very lean and you need to add fat to it or it’ll burn up in a jiff.

Or, possibly, braise or stew it very slowly at a very low temperature?
Nat’s asleep after a horrible crying fit which I attribute to his measles shots yesterday (he’s got a couple of suspicious-looking red bumps on his stomach), and we’re collapsing in front of the computer and tv, respectively. I’m thinking about eating a pre-bedtime chocolate bar. Go me.

er, that’s odd - because when I posted that it was on the same page, right below, Soapy’s reply to ArchiveGuy. But hey, belated w00t!

VBob - did you really try to get on Joe Brown? I would have recorded that episode!

Ooo LiLi I had to do shots for my little one this week too. He got his 4 year boosters so he got 4 shots. I don’t know which one is causing the reaction but one of his arms has a red hot patch at injection site about the size of a deck of cards. The docs at the ER (my mom worked there last night, I didn’t take him there for the reaction) said it was most likely the chicken pox causing the reaction and that he seemed fine. Yay for the free medical advice that comes with a small town medical community! Saves a lot of worrying and filling out forms and waiting for something as simple as “is this an emergency or not?”

Taxi - I am taking the last of my pre-reqs for the ASN program - the Associate Nursing. I chose the 2 year degree because it will get me graduated and working faster (and therefore not dependent on my parents anymore, whew). Then I plan to do the bridge program RN to BSN so I’ll have a Bachelor’s but I can be working on it while I am making nurse money, not just $7/hour bartender money (and it’s not like the tips are that great at a country club). What I’d like to do eventually is work for a while and work at a university hospital (preferably UAB) so I can work and get my masters so I can teach nursing at the university. But that’s more of a 10 year plan. We’ll see how it works out. It took me until my 30s to decide what I really wanted to be when I grew up…

Based on her last couple of posts, I’d guess that Haze is either in class or snuggling with that handsome furriner of hers. Hopefully more of the latter and less of the former.

Poor little Gnat. Playing human pincushion makes me cranky too, but apparently when you’re my age you’re not supposed to pitch a crying fit over.

I am doing a little happy dance of joy because I don’t have to commute to the 'burbs tomorrow. Yippee!

Fixed that for you.

I worked the Booster Club table tonight. I got there on time from the new store. We saw an interesting couple. she was wearing a Buffalo Sabres sweatshirt, he was wearing Maple Leaf jersey.:dubious: We asked them about it, he showed us the back:Losers since
67  It was an ugly game, but we won. Woo Woo!

Good luck, Shelli! my mom is a retired pediatric RN.

Congrats on the win, BBBobbio.

Morning all. HRH has been awake since 5am, primarily because she was exhausted yesterday afternoon and hubby had the bright idea of putting her to bed at 5pm! The prospect of her waking up early didn’t occur to him, or if it did, didn’t bother him since he wouldn’t be the one waking up with her! :smack:

To add injury to insult (and yes, that is deliberately reversed), I got a text message from my Dad at 5:15 this morning to say he’s in hospital recovering from a bad blood infection (E. coli, for the medical types). He apparently woke up on Monday morning with indigestion-type pains which felt unusual, so called my older sister (the GP/PCP), who told him to call an ambulance. By the time the ambulance arrived, the indigestion had become crushing chest pains. After 6 doses of nitroglycerine hadn’t alleviated the pain, the paramedics gave Dad morphine. By the time Dad got to hospital, he had started having muscle spasms over his whole body and his temperature had dropped to 35C (95F), before spiking back up to 39C (102F). And the cycle of spasms/shakes (complicated by muscle cramps) and temperature fluctuations continued until after they got blood tests back which showed the infection (Late Monday night / Tuesday morning). Since then, Dad has been on a cocktail of IV antibiotics and is now firmly on the mend, although he won’t be discharged until Tuesday next week. I am kind of upset that I wasn’t told sooner, but also relieved not to know until now, since I am way too far away to have been able to do anything other than fret!

Sigh … Happy Weekend!
