I did ask for a spoon. All they had was a tiny toothpick-like thing that was squared off at one end.
Well, then I apologize for snarkily assuming you’d flounced out without asking The Spoon Question. What’s that place thinking?
WHY did I, on BOTH commutes today (to work, from work) get stuck behind some moron with ailing gerbils powering their excuse for a vehicle who thought 45 mph was a reasonable speed on a freeway with a posted limit of 65??? The weather was fine and other lanes were zipping right along.
Just found a giant hive of bees have made their home at the top of one of our cranberry trees. At this point, bees are hovering like a cloud all around the top puff of leaves and if you get within 30 feet of it, you can hear the buzzing. I’ll be hiding in my basement until the professionals get here.
If the bees swarm into the shape of an arrow, pointing at you, RUN.
Huh, how about that? I didn’t know cranberries grew on trees. So what’s this ‘bog’ thing all about?
TREES???
Around here, Cranberrys grow in bogs, height above the surface never exceeds a foot. The growers flood the bogs when sub-freezing temps occur.
Where do cranberrys grow on trees? Three Mile Island? Chernobyl?
Google it, guys, and get educated.
You are probably OK, Merneith. If they were killer bees, they would have made the arrow towards you as soon as you got close enough to hear the buzzing. Or maybe they are killer bees and you just didn’t offend them. That time. I don’t think you have to confine yourself to the basement, they probably can’t break windows to get in, crowbars might be a little hard for them to handle. Just keep all the blinds closed…
My rant: I have just figured out that I’m also allergic to mold. My allergies have been going nuts lately, which is normal for this time for me due to all of the plants having their last fling before winter. Things are different this year, most of the plants in the area are gone, but because I am so used to not being able to breath in the spring or fall, I didn’t think about it until now.
There might not be plants, but you can almost watch the mold growing in some shady places. Wet places have this slimy mold creeping around, dry shady places have green or black mold or moss. All of which procreate with spores. Which we are all breathing. Of course my allergies are going nuts, I am such an idiot sometimes. :smack:
Cranberries are listed as “dwarf evergreen shrubs”. They’re definitely NOT trees.
There are, however, several types of trees with red berries. Hawthorne, crab apple, dogwood, American Holly and California Pepper tree being the ones you might find in North America.
Lately around here, cranberries have not been much of a cash crop. So now the bogs are sprouting solar panels. They go in next to the windmills.
Just picked up a random book and read it without realizing it was part of a series. Didn’t discover it until I got to the end. Only to find that the second book isn’t out yet. Grr.
I’ve been waiting seven years for the last book in the Sword of Shadows series to come out. I’m about done with series.
I’ve got some bad news for you about the Game of Thrones series, too. ![]()
I’m neither watching nor reading it until it’s done.
Randomly checked Fear Nothing out of the public library. Best synergy of narrator and protagonist I’d ever heard (Keith Szarabajka nails the moodiness perfectly). Quickly found out that the Christopher Snow trilogy is still stuck at two books. Since the 90s, when I checked cassettes out of the library.
Ha! Just googled it, and it’s listed as “The Moonlight Bay Trilogy Audio Books” but just shows two books…waiting…
I read somewhere that this is the final season, so it should be done soon, shouldn’t it?
I’m currently waiting on these Next Books:
The Thorn of Emberlain, from the Gentleman Bastards series by Scott Lynch, which who knows, Lynch is maybe in a depressive down cycle
**Peace Talks,**from the Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher, which actually, Butcher has written the book the comes after this one, but can’t figure out how he wants to do Peace Talks to get there.
Doors of Stone, from the King Killer Chronicles, by Patrick Rothfuss - which supposedly was written five years ago. He’s just been revising it all this time.
I don’t mind wait. No, hang on - I do mind waiting. It’s killing me. But I don’t mind, because what choice do I have.
For those you haven’t read it yet - I can recommend The Malazan Book of the Fallen series, by Scott Erickson, in no small part because it’s already finished (although there are other books by Erickson and his writing partner Ian C. Esslemont, that are worth following up.) The first in the series, Gardens of the Moon is the weakest. Just keep going.
They’re crabapple trees. I just call them “cranberry trees” because … well, I just always have.
The bees - are gone! They took themselves off, a few hours after I posted about them. They left yesterday afternoon and I keep checking because there were so damn many of them. But nope, the bees have departed all on their own.
I thought for sure I was going to need a real beekeeper and a moon suit to handle them. They must have been just passing through. I guess maybe they just stopped to catch their little breaths. I guess maybe that was why they were in the top of the tree, too.
Anyway, I’m happy not to have killed them. I hope they find a nice forever home where they can buzz in peace.
A guy in a moon suit would not likely have killed them, would he?
