It’s even more important for folks getting chemo to get the vaccine now. It may be less effective in inducing immunity, but it is not contra-indicated.
There are really very few hard and fast medical contra-indications to getting vaccinated. Below are the current recommendations on those over age 12 who should NOT be vaccinated for COVID.
The only contraindications to COVID-19 vaccination are allergic reactions to the COVID-19 vaccines or their components.
•Severe allergic reaction (eg, anaphylaxis) to a previous COVID-19 vaccine dose or to a component of the vaccine.
•Immediate allergic reaction of any severity (including hives) developing within four hours of a previous COVID-19 vaccine dose or known (diagnosed) allergy to a component of the vaccine. Isolated hives that develop more than four hours after vaccine receipt are unlikely to represent an allergic reaction to the vaccine.
Precautions – Precautions to vaccination also consist of allergic reactions. These precautions warrant longer post-vaccination monitoring than usual.
•Immediate allergic reaction to any other (non-COVID-19) vaccine or injectable therapy.
Allergy consultation can be helpful to evaluate suspected allergic reactions to a COVID-19 vaccine or its components and assess the risk of future COVID-19 vaccination.
But I’m the primary caretaker for my 88-year-old father, who resides in a memory care facility. And obviously, given the age of the residents there, a lot of residents have issues that may involve the immune system.
I’m no medical expert by any stretch of the imagination. But I do know that, for some residents there, vaccines are apparently contra-indicated. I can’t speak with the slightest degree of authority on whether or not that’s medically sound. But the fact is that there are residents in my father’s facility that have not been vaccinated.
Maybe that’s right, maybe that’s wrong.
All I will say is that, since I visit my father as often as humanly possible, the fact that there are unvaxxed people there imposes a greater obligation on me, and on everyone who can be vaxxed, to get the jab.
It’s an ongoing debate within the family, since I have a Trumpist loon brother who isn’t vaccinated, who would like to visit our father. The facility is now requiring proof of vaccination for visitors (and I wholeheartedly approve of that policy), and I’m pissed off at my brother for not doing this trivial, easy, painless thing so that he can visit our father.
It’s not 100% painless (though it’s not bad, my arm was just sore for a few days after each shot), but I imagine it’s less painful than massive lung damage.
Do I think people deserve to get sick and die? No.
But for those who don’t care about contributing to getting this pandemic over with or don’t care if they get someone else sick and they die, I just can’t bring myself to give a shit if they get sick and die themselves. In fact, it would be better if they did it sooner rather than later to reduce the number of human petri dishes there are for a new and worse variant to develop.
The problem is they don’t just get sick and die, they get sick, go to the hospital, demand medical care, and only sometimes die.
That they aren’t smart enough to understand that wearing masks, social distancing, and getting the vaccine is the medical care they need so they won’t get the Covid boggles the mind.
I’m guessing that they think intubation is a nice vacation from breathing.
Medical personnel are reporting that all the ICU beds in Arkansas are filled. They’ve called hospitals in 5 surrounding states and no one has room. Similar report out of Oklahoma.
And they’re all COVID cases. People are stacking up in hallways waiting for beds. And they have no place to put those coming in for trauma treatment, heart attacks … Do these people understand that there is a limit to space, equipment, and the ability of medical personnel to handle all this shit?
As long as she is masking, social distancing, quarantining in place, all the things, I have no problem with that.
Her reasoning is faulty. Not only do we have the trials, but we have MILLIONS of real world vaccinations. You know what gives you dangerous clots, long term neurological, and other problems, and DEATH? Covid. She is afraid, and I guess that’s how it is, I think it’s foolish. She may not be “trumpy” but if those are the arguments she is coming up with, she is “researching” in trump qanon territory.
They want every word from their orange hero to be true because they buy into a lot of his BS since they also hold the same prejudices. That’s what they want. And fuck reality.
