It’s still endemic in some places because some folks don’t or can’t get the vaccine. The one that eliminated polio almost everywhere else in the world.
Even the Taliban has finally come around on the idea that it might be useful not to have a bunch of polio ridden kids running around.
Just as there could be some lurkers that are swayed by this crap.
It isn’t as if there isn’t already a vast forum on the interwebs and other media allowing this dangerous malarkey to be spread, so what exactly are we accomplishing by giving even more space for it to spread?
I fully support smacking down (HARD) anyone who posts disinformation about COVID on this board. If my post in any way supported an interpretation that I don’t consider it that big a deal, I apologize for my clumsy writing.
This COVID crap has been completely blatant stupidity.
There were some reasons for Trumps first success to where I was still (stupidly) chalking it up to a perfect storm that got him the nomination and then elected.
This time with COVID and the all too close re-election, I’m out of excuses and downgraded my estimate of the collective intelligence. Especially as we saw stupidity play out in so many other places in the world.
If the kids have polio, they ain’t doing any running.
I’m not going to bother saying what I think of this new poster. Quite a few people have already expressed my feelings already and he’s not worth the time or effort unless I get seriously irked, and I’m getting too tired for this shit.
Not even close, but this world is aging me faster every day.
It’s really upsetting to learn how many people are so stupid, uncaring, or both that they can’t see beyond their own little nose. Which they keep turned up at the rest of the world.
Seriously, they need to get over themselves and learn that the only way the species (and most of our current biome) survives is to take care of each other.
Up to 70 percent of those infected have no symptoms.[1] Another 25 percent of people have minor symptoms such as fever and a sore throat, and up to 5 percent have headache, neck stiffness, and pains in the arms and legs.[1][3] These people are usually back to normal within one or two weeks.
Ignorance fought. I grew up after the Polio vaccine was readily available, so didn’t personally know anyone affected, just the stories of iron lungs, people like FDR (who tried his damnedest to not be seen in a wheelchair or using crutches) etc. I understand Mitch McConnell had polio as a youth, and still has some physical effects.
My wife’s grandmother (who is still around though she’s quite elderly) had polio as a child. It caused one leg to not grow as well as the other, and she’s always had a pronounced limp her whole life, just made worse now with old age.
That’s all I have to contribute, just that I know someone who had it and yeah I get the “they aren’t running” joke because that’s not an uncommon symptom for those who had it back in the day.
Yeah, the father of one of my friends has a bad leg due to polio (also a doctor, so absolutely no issues convincing him to get vaccinated) and just twisted his good ankle, so not doing much walking at all for a while.
I knew a couple of people who had polio. I was very young, and they were old men. Both had to wear a leg brace and had a pronounced limp. I got the “aren’t running” reference too.
So did I, of course, but I wanted to point out that in contrast to our modern view of it even Polio was a disease that often had no or few symptoms, like COVID.
