Shameless season 4 (open spoilers)

Interesting developments and heartbreak and laughs.

So do you think Sammy is going to fuck Frank before or after she finds out he’s not her dad? They’ve already dropped hints that he’s not the dad.

I did laugh out loud when Deb cut herself…but I think I was supposed to.

Ian’s plot bores me.

Part of me wants to see Fiona spiral even further down and become like Frank. I think it would be an interesting story.

I started to watch this show after having been a fan of the UK original, which seemed to do a better job of mixing the humor and drama. But right now, this show is a complete downer. Frank is dying of liver failure, Fiona is now a convicted felon, Lip seems to be on the verge of dropping out of college (or at least being unable to concentrate on his studies due to his family’s problems), Ian is a drug-addicted go-go dancer/rentboy, Debbie is looking to grow up too fast, etc.

…yabut, Carl is coming around a little.

Yeah, those scenes with Liam were pretty sweet. I finally watched episode 7. I liked that they portrayed Fiona’s public defender as a competent (if overworked) professional instead of going the public pretender route. Fiona’s damn lucky she got that deal. Micky cleans up pretty nice (but I think just the gold trunks would’ve been a better look for Ian).

I’m really enjoying the Ian/Micky subplot. Mickey’s really coming out of his shell, but I’ll still be very surprised if this things don’t end badly for him. :frowning: I’m glad Lip’s stopped his bullshit (it’s justified, but also not helping anyone) and Fiona seems to be realizing she needs to cut the crap. Otherwise she’ll end up Frank 2.0 and Lip will be Fiona 2.0. And speaking of Frank; anyone else think he was right in the end?

I love this show, I can’t wait for the next episode to see what will happen to Frank.

Holy Hannah it seems as if this last episode everyone went bonkers. Maybe it’s because Fiona is on a downward spiral that everyone has lost their centre.

That was a tough episode to watch, particularly Fiona’s experiences. The AV Club write-up has been suggesting that Ian is bipolar (as was their mother), which is why he’s been so hyper (more so in the last episode than this one).

I hope it starts lightening up again soon; I remember the UK series as more of a mixture.

I’m actually really interested in this season, as dark as it is, it’s one heck of an amazing study of Fiona’s character, and I really think this has affected everyone in the family. As much as the Gallaghers are resilient, it seems to me Fiona is just broken and unless someone throws her a lifeline I worry for her and everyone.

I thought Mickey who I thought was a little shit in previous seasons is hilariously funny and his lines are just crazy good,

He is funny… but he’s still an out and out complete shit bag who has never shown more than an ounce of basic decency. He’s a character I actually think should be offed.
I find he and Ian’s storyline to just be tedious.
I’m going to be really disappointed if Fiona doesn’t end up in prison at the end of the season–or completely on the outs with the rest of the family and becomes the new “Frank.”
It’s hard to predict where the show is going because it is really disjointed at times. I’m curious what the writer’s room is like.
We get episodes that will introduce some new plot and then it’s not referenced again ever (the Lip/Fiona power play with Lip’s girlfriend as the Lady Macbeth from last season and this season the hints dropped that Frank might not be Samantha’s dad)

Who else thinks Mickey is going to kill Mandy’s boyfriend for beating her up?

I don’t think it matters much whether Frank is Samantha’s father; I think they’ve dropped the idea of the liver transplant and he’s just slowly dying. In the scene at the end of the last episode in which they recreated the Alibi tavern in Sheila’s living room, his skin color was really awful. I can’t imagine that they’re going to write William H Macy out of the show, but the character is really close to death.

It wasn’t the liver transplant that made the father/daughter issue important–it was the “Oh, are they going to fuck?” issue which they kept playing with.
Franks seems less than capable of that now, but when it was introduced it wasn’t out of the realm.

Scenes from the next episode gave clues what will happen, but I won’t post any spoilers.

Fiona needs to take her PO up on the referral to the agency; presumably they do a lot of placement for felons so she might actually have a shot at getting a job. Gallagher day-care and hooking are right out; nobody’s going to trust her with kids, and she needs an above-board job with paperwork to give her PO. And I think it goes without saying that any job she does get will be worse than the shitty jobs she had when she wasn’t a felon. BTW did anyone else catch the extra pointing at her ankle bracelet during her walk of shame out of her old office?

It’s a possibility. Mandy and Ian are the only two people Mickey’s ever been shown to care about. Is Ian 18 now? You’d think if he was still underage that would be the first thing they told the guy they were blackmailing. Also I hope they address Ian’s legal trouble soon instead of just dropping them.

That was the first time I ever felt bad for Frank (though I still think he deserves this). Where are they going with Sheila’s completely insane marriage idea? :dubious: Did Frank and Monica ever even get a divorce?

Another hunch - the last scene of the season finale will be Jimmy/Steve standing outside the Gallagher house…he’s back!

Yeah, I can’t see it ending any other way.

Is ti just me or does the student that Lip is having a bit of fun with have altogether too many teeth for her mouth?

I don’t see that happening, particularly since they already had him disappear and reappear in Season 2. Anyway, previous interviews from the show runner and Rossum stated he is dead and won’t be back. That doesn’t mean the writers and show runner couldn’t change their minds, but I don’t see it happening when there is already so much going on.

Yeah, I watched those. Can’t say…

…I’m surprised that Fiona apparently fucks up her probation, but black market liver transplants?

Also I just remembered that back in season 1 or 2 Frank had an identical twin brother (who also hated him); I wonder if that will ever come up again. Now’s the perfect time for obvious reasons. :stuck_out_tongue:
