My point is that nobody was hurt, so nothing happened. “Something happened” would be if someone got shot.
Kevin’s misfire was equivalent to Fiona putting the coke on the kitchen table. Nobody would have cared about coke on the table and nobody would have turned her in, just like nobody cared about a misfire and nobody reported him. It’s only when somebody actually gets hurt that anybody cares at all, in either situation.
The double-standard you’re trying to paint about drugs and guns doesn’t hold water in this instance. It’s a single standard that both are held to: If someone gets hurt, that’s bad. If nobody got hurt, no worries, go nuts.
We can agree to disagree, something happened. A gun went off. If the gun was just in the closet or “sitting on the kitchen table” and nobody used it then nothing happened. The fact that it made a big loud noise and nobody gave a rattz pattoutey says more about society than it does about child safety.
On another note, a great review on the show from Vanity Fair, especially Mickey and Ian and how its the best written gay couple on television. I concur
First episode I’ve been able to watch in real time. More to say later, but right now Twitter feeds for the cast of the show are abuzz. Apparently none of them knew about Jimmy/Steve/Jack.
Fantastic finale - I thought Frank was going to pour that bottle out instead of testing his new liver. Lip seeing Mandy at the restaurant was heart breaking - she wants him to do well and knows what he can accomplish. I still want to see someone destroy her boyfriend - here’s hoping that’s how next season begins. I can’t believe we have to wait 'til next January! :smack:
I came here to say you were right about Steve, and wish that you weren’t. I really think it’s lame to bring him back after what happened with his storyline, but otherwise I thought this season was very good.
There sure was a lot of heart-breaking stuff this episode. Lip running into Mandy at work, Ian finally having a depressive episode (Micky’s reaction almost had me in tears), Carl’s first heart-break. Admittedly the last one pales in comparison to the first two. On the plus side Fiona’s finally out of jail, has a job, and almost admitted she’s an addict. Also Micky & Svetlana appear to have reached an understanding and Sam look’s like she’ll be around next season. I am not happy Jimmy/Steve/etc returned; totally unexpected, I thought Monica would be the big reveal.
Ian being bipolar when he was being all manic just didn’t occur to me, I just assumed it was drugs. Now it seems so damn obvious, I almost feel stupid.
I really, REALLY liked that episode, great way to close a season. Frankly, Shameless is my favourite show on TV full stop.
Well maybe not to drugs (yet), but she sure seems like a sex (chaos?) addict. BTW was anyone else a bit taken aback with the reminder of how old she is? She’s only 23. Mandy’s only 18/19, and almost looks like she’s pushing 40 some scenes. I miss the psycho girl who just a few episodes ago had her boyfriend (who’s now beating her) fleeing naked from the house because she was trying to kill him.
It’s easy to assume that being around drugs and using them would account for Ian’s behaviour. But when he stopped making sense the first time he sees Lip and Debs after a long absence from them, something else was at play.
Those were heavy scenes, but I was more moved by Debbie’s (along with Carl & Liam) reaction to Fiona’s return. Debbie has had quite a few “reunions” in the kitchen area over the run, but this one was really well done.
I will say I called out (to my wife, anyway) Ian’s bipolar foreshadowing when he first returned home this season.
I did have an unfair advantage, as we’ve been watching the seasons out of order a bit, and there was a strong similarity between his manic behavior and Monica’s from season 2
I did laugh when Fiona and Lip were talking about the family not catching a break.
Yeah Fiona, you left your coke out while partying and nearly killed your brother, got arrested and released on probation–broke probation to go on another bender–got sent to prison (I suspect it was maybe a week? maybe two) and then released early and set up with a new job.
