Share Your Favorite Geek-related Songs

Star Wars interpreted by a Bad Lip Reader, playlist:

No mention of Tom Lehrer yet? (E.G. the Elements song).

Also,a bit older, maybe not quite geek but certainly intelligent parody: Flanders and Swann.
Of course they are rather, er, British…

Another one from Weird Al:

Speaking of Star Wars, can I assume that everyone who might care is aware of Princess Leia’s Stolen Death Star Plans?

(And also Weird Al’s “Yoda” and “The Saga Begins”?)

If Star Wars inspired songs count, I offer two LOTR inspired ones: “Ramble On” and “No Quarter” by Led Zeppelin.

You forgot the best one - “The Battle of Evermore.”

I see we have one Jonathan Coulter already, but my favorite is “You’re My Moon”

And I’ll add Lemon Demon’s “Fine”

The whole Filk community has its origins in this.

One of my favorites is Steve Macdonald’s B Movies:

Would a song for grammar geeks count?

If so…

I’m loving this, y’all! I’m going to make a special Doper Geek Songs playlist and add more songs as they come in. I’ll post the link if anyone is interested. While I’m gearing up to make the list, let me just share one more favorite:

Dan Bull’s “Gamers Without Borders”

(Since, apparently, the board doesn’t want me to add videos into my posts. So links it is!

It wasn’t just that one song – Dolby’s entire first album was geeky science rock.

Assorted Intricacies - Roll a D6 (parody of “Like a G6”)

Bardic Mystery Tour - You Wanna Play Some D&D?

Yeah, I didn’t know the term until I started listening to more of the Nerd core. A cypher is basically when a group of rappers come together to make music. In these two cases, it’s a bunch of the nerd core rappers coming together about a specific topic. The first one is a different rapper taking on a different Nic Cage movie and rapping for a bit before it’s turned over to the next one and so on and so on.

Aside: Assuming that the song is referring to relativistic time dilation, and assuming that the ship is maintaining a constant acceleration, it needs to be pulling approximately 800 gs for 100 years Earth time to correspond to 1 year ship time.

When my kids were younger, I’d go pick up their friends that they would play D&D with. As soon as everyone was in the car, I would put on “Roll a d6” They would all start singing and get into the mood to play.

Well spotted. That small issue with the song has been known about for ages. Still love the song, though. Perhaps they’re using something like McAndrew’s Balanced Drive, from Charles Sheffield’s books.

So ever since my first post to this thread, I’ve been listening to my playlists and adding new entries to that playlist whenever a song or video comes up I consider both very good and also geeky or nerdy enough, or if I’m reminded of its existence in some way. Has anybody else looked at that list to play other items in it besides the first one, '39? Youtube doesn’t think so.
