Oh, how wrong we were.
The implicit assumption from the original thread title that an actress is necessarily incapable of playing anything besides her most famous role seems so wrong on its face that I’m surprised that so many people went with it.
I love Mayim Bialik’s “Amy”. She has added so much to the show.
Especially with the dynamic she has added to the Penny situation.
It took some character growth to get there, but I really like Amy and Mayim is hilarious.
Just wondering if anyone else ever noticed: In a very early episode of TBBT (maybe even the third or the fourth), there was a real-life reference to Mayim as “that girl who played Blossom; she’s really smart.” Indeed, she has a doctorate in neurosurgery, if I’m not mistaken.
What other kind of woman would Sheldon hook up with? What’s so funny about it is that she’s finally experiencing sexual arousal after being just as stodgy as Sheldon. The question now is, what will it take to bring Sheldon around, if ever?
I think that is common knowledge amongst TBBT fans.
Neuroscience, FWIW.
Raj also mentions ex-Winnie Cooper actress Danica McKellar in the same line (the guys, sans Sheldon, need a fourth physics quiz team member). McKellar would later guest star in an episode and hooks up with Raj. I’d love to see more of her; the character works at the university, so it wouldn’t be unusual to occasionally see her.
An Astrosmash T-shirt! FINALLY he gets some taste in clothing. And she’s pretty funny. I might watch this show more.
But first I must play Astrosmash.
Maybe the funniest moment ever on the show.
“Put it on me put it on me put it on me put it on me put it on me!”
Amy was pretty much a female Sheldon at first, but I’m in complete agreement with garygnu:
The show’s funny. It’s a pity Mayim Bialik is a living breathing caricature of a smug, obnoxious, over zealous, anti-vax santimommy.

I only started watching the show back in November. I spent the second half of January and first week in February going through the backlog of episodes on line, starting with the unaired pilot.
At the time, I had no idea who “Blossom” was, never having watched that show either.
Whoa…
Without an exclamation point, and especially because of the ellipsis, this looks like a Keanu Reeves “Whoa . . .”.
For Joey Lawrence, you have to use an exclamation point- and, I think, the final “h” is necessary too. For real Joey Lawrence italics are almost always in order.
Whoah!
That’s seriously disappointing. I already knew she was giving attachment theory a bad name, but I had no idea until now that she’s an anti-vax nutter. Some of the hottest work in attachment neurobiology is coming out of UCLA right now. I wonder if they’re embarrassed to be associated with her or not. Anybody know what her dissertation was on?
Did you just go full-Sheldon on me over spelling and punctuation for an interjection?
i think it was more of going Cliff Clavin on you.
I’ve heard it both ways.
